All summer I searched for ladybugs in our gardens. I did find a few but not near AS MANY as in my own home over the winter months. I lost count of how many I gathered up from nooks and crannies and placed in a little aquarium in one contained apartment. I do NOT like to kill bugs and putting them outside in the snow was not an option.

My next dilemma…what to feed them? Apparently they like Cheerios! For those just itching to know, they also like raisins and sliced green grapes :) Little droplets of water each day and they made out just fine.

Now that Spring has arrived the surviving ladies have all been put back outside :)

That’s cool info to know Renee, thanks! This is very cute! Love the title! We have lots of ladybugs in the house in the winter too. There were tons of them on the window frame of our octagonal window which gets lots of sun all day. They probably were sun-bathing!

  • Renee Dawson replied

Thanks Sandy. I decided not to turn them blue or you’d think you were going whirly…lol ;) Hope you’re having an awesome weekend dear!

A great capture and such a sweet story. I remember about 15 years ago when we had this HUGE visit of lady bugs late in summer. They were EVERYWHERE and I recall that I was painting the white trim on my porch. They wanted to walk in my fresh paint. Well, that winter, I found them everywhere in my house, mostly upstairs in my office and guest room. They would gather in large colonies and appeared to be hybernating. It was to unusual. Thank you for sharing this wonderful image and story. You make my day!

  • Renee Dawson replied

Hi Marjorie and thanks so much :) They do huddle together in colder weather now don’t they! It would be nothing for me to find them, 20 at a time, huddled in a corner over a door frame. Glad I was able to brighten your day :)
