For me, art is a chance to make the world a brighter place. It is a chance to be quiet for a moment, and commune with yourself and the world around you. It is a spiritual act.

I would like to set an example to the world that art can be a simple and fulfilling act in and of itself, a remodernist idea, but certainly not a new one. It seems apparent from studies carried out by art teachers, that when a person allows themselves to be free of fear or restraint, and simply ‘create’ as they feel naturally inclined, often they produce their best work. The parallels to spiritual progress are apparent at every stage.

The object that remains at the end of the creative moment is a totem if you like of the experience, in this sense it is similar to the shamanic tradition.

I follow a lineage of artists that includes among others, the cave painters of Europe, shamanic traditions the world over, Hokusai, Hiroshige, Vincent Van Gogh, Joseph Beuys, and Billy Childish.

I am here to set the world on fire wherever the brush is dry enough.

I hear you – I agree that art is a chance to express yourself and in so doing to to be in touch with the world and everything in it. You have expressed yourself so peacefully that i am calmed by reading your statement. (It also helps that i have just returned from a long walk next to Cronulla Beach ;-) )
