Anyone who knows me knows how I hate pollution . My local river has been a magnet for mindless dumping for years . Every now and then when time permits I clear as much rubbish out of the river as I can . I came across this shopping trolley last summer while I was out taking photos. The nearest Supermarket is a mile and half away so heaven knows how it got here . To walk away and leave it there goes against the grain so I stripped down to my underwear took off my socks and boots and waded in. It was harder to pull out than I thought being tangled up in a submerged branch. After a lot of splashing around I managed to get it half way to the bank . It was then I heard the girly laughter coming from two teenage girls on the bank. Embarasment standing there in just my underwear was the least of my problems as my feet started to sink into the mud . Two lads appeared and seeing me sinking reached out and pulled me to safety . I explained to them what I was trying to do and between the giggles of the girls and an extra two pairs of hands we managed to pull the trolley to dry land. I thanked them both and the four of them went on their way with a story to tell .Rather than leave the trolley on the bank to be thrown in again I , once dressed ,cleaned up the trolley and got it all working , I put my rucksack and tripod in the basket and wheeled it home . The supermarket came and collected it the following day. An After thought ;- please read below,
Do you know the difference between brainless people who throw things in rivers and shopping trolleys…….. Shopping trollys have a mind of their own. !
