Not sure if this is technically a golden mantled ground squirrel or a true chipmunk. It seems a real chipmunk has stripes that start on the face and run the entire body. I have never been able to snap a photo of one on my walks as they always slip away far too fast. For some reason, this one froze on that thorn bush and I took the opportunity to snap a few before he decided I was too close for comfort.
And I’m calling him a chipmunk…even though he was slightly larger than the little orange ones I always see, he’s not as big as the typical solid gray squirrel either! =)
