Artist's Description

Manalapan Lake, Jamesburg, New Jersey, USA. In 1746, David Brainerd, Presbyterian-Allied Missionary to the Indians, established a settlement called Bethel, House of God. About 160 Indians lived here in log houses. They built a log church, school and cultivated 80 acres of English grain, Indian Corn, Fruit trees and other crops under the direction of David Brainerd and his brother, John.By 1760, the Bethel Indians had been moved to a reservation at Brotherton in Burlington County, NJ. 806 views as of 16 Feb 2012
