I came upon these two men (see companion photograph) talking about Malcolm X as they sat together having coffee by the beach in Florida. I was captivated by their discussion and at that time their hope that Barack Obama would be the next president.
Both men came from Brooklyn, many years apart and retired in Florida. I thought a lot about discourse and bridges between races as I listened.

I’m trying to decide if I should wait to comment when I feel more articulate, because this makes in feel very inarticulate…
The man I photographed (on a beach in Florida) was very, very articulate. I’m just beginning to play around with portraits. Thanks, Nelson.
Ok, yes, I keep switching back and forth between them, wanting to bring them into the same space. Just my thoughts.
Cerebral and visceral at the same time…
…beautiful even as an abstract, yet a portrait.

Congratulations!
