"Trickle Down" Economics on Monroe Street
Michigan
August 2009
Tax cuts and benefits to the wealthy were suppose to lead to the distribution of wealth across the economy…the good people of Monroe Street in Michigan apparently are still waiting.

the good people in all of Michigan are still waiting. Unfortunately you can see this in most town in Michigan as I’m sure all over the country. Small towns are getting smaller…Michigan has more than it’s share of ghost towns, especially in the North. Great work as always Mary Ann.

i spent 48 hours in Michigan, almost 3 months ago and the images i shot there continue to speak to me. we need to do better here in the USA for the poor we are becoming.

An all too familiar picture Mary Ann. So much of this all around. A very poignant and emotive image but still beautifully rendered. Great work

thanks Tori. I don;t think I have ever gotten over the damage Reagan’s 2 term presidency caused this country. It continues.

Great shot – the trickle down in fact usually trickles sideways – wel done
Mary Ann Reilly replied
i think it just rests at the top in a small puddle and soaks up everything else. Is it true that the top 1% (in economic matters) in this country own 95% of the wealth?

Dreams of Mexico’s share of the Colorado.

Beautiful, beautiful image – just love everything about it. The composition, the restrained use of color, the tones of the shingles, wood, grass – perfect. I also love your biting narrative. Isn’t it always the way. I just read that an investment firm which received a bailout is paying ALL of its employees an average of $700,000 this year with bonus. The good people of Wall Street and the CEO’s of miserably performing publicly traded companies are not waiting, as the good people of MI are, for the promised Utopian re-distribution of wealth to reach their doorstep. Oh no, not them.
Mary Ann Reilly replied
I sense a revolution coming…our tax dollars at work to help the wealthy be poor performers and reap economic bonuses is simply too much to stomach.
