Technological quagmire,
trapping mankind in a technological r/age
The “Information Superhighway” demolishing
www@asuburb.near.you
Let us bury reality in a “sea of knowledge”
Until we drift, aimless without remembering where
we were headed or why we set off
Knowledge without reason, method without aim

There is more to know than we can ever hope to
learn,
More to being than can be gauged by thinking
Understanding – in us or outside of the self?

Like an alien operation, techno-implant is the
path we are choosing,
Bit by byte, byte by bit
Connecting all to interactive media,
disconnecting all connections to LIFE itself
“Know Thyself” and technology screams back
“PLEASE VERIFY YOUR IDENTITY” or all the
privileges I, your God have promised you, will be denied
Despicable, but necessary, closure to an age?

The pen was mightier than the sword, but silicon chips
can, and will, upload all
Megabyte, Kilobyte, Gigabyte…..
Minute, Second, Hour…..
Where the mind once went, technology easily has
surely followed

This poem ponders modern silicon chip based technology as it reshapes our world and increasingly affects more of our lives. It poses a highly fictional yet not impossible future where the computer and all related technologies replace the tangible organic universe with a synthetic, silicon replicated substitute. The Network creates its own Nirvana and decides not to include us.

This poem was not written to trumpet a fear of computers and technology because I love them both. It’s just me having a bit of fun with fiction.

Comments are very welcome ! Feedback is a great teacher for all of us.

something i have thought on frequently.. the next stage, and the next and the next.
till we upload our consciousnesseses to a computer and “live” forever.. and then the next thought.. what happens to your consciousness in between each computer cycle – do you cease to exist each flip? aaah such an interesting topic.

I’ve been waiting since January for someone to comment on this one Mr Teeth !
This poem goes beyond us all to a fictional time when Human history has ceased and computers replicate the entire Universe in the way of their choosing. Death has always been a finality, so computers decide that the only way to solve that problem is to have no life at all !

If you get the time, read ” Fractal Net ” where I made a movie intro inspired by this poem. I forgot to include the names of characters and flesh them out, but that was due to the intensity of my concentration on the piece.

you should reas isaac asimov’s “THE LAST QUESTION”
in short- starts a little bit in the futire with a super computer being asked “can entropy be reversed?” and it goes thru succesive epochs of the human race where each more advanced computer gets given the same question.
goes until the end of the human race, and still the pc’s think.. the computers move themselves to hyperspace and the universe dies and they still think this thru and finally billions of years in the future they work it out and the first line of code is
“LET THERE BE LIGHT” and the stars come on..
    its waaay cool.

He was one of my favourite authors when I was a teenager and I loved science fiction ! I have never read that one, it does sound very interesting.

I believe we are creating our next evolvement into a new physical form today with dna, and quantam computers, and nano science. Already silcone is becomming obsolete now that we have Molecular Beam Epitaxy . How long before we are able to design our bodies on a atomic level?
Hopefully we will not end up like borg.

This poem was inspired by something I read about the American Military having 3D Printers that can print an item to make it a physical reality – for repairs on the battlefield. But I went further with my imagination to when all technology converges seamlessly and we become entirely obsolete and then cease to exist – eradicated by a system we created.
I’ve never heard of MBE, but I read a bit a minute ago and it was beyond me really – heavy science. Thanks for your ideas on the subject !
