Duck By The Pond

There are many native animals on display at at Blackbutt Nature Reserve in Newcastle, Australia. Some are kept in purpose built enclosures, while others are left to roam freely about the reserve.

This original digital photograph was taken with a Canon 450D and a standard Canon 55 – 250 mm lens:
F-stop: f/8
Exposure time: 1/200 sec
ISO speed: ISO-200
Exposure bias: -0.3 step
Focal length: 250 mm
Aperture Priority Mode
White Balance: Cloudy
Hand Held

I enjoy the whole creative process from beginning to end and seek to discover and portray the world in all of it’s rich, intense colours and interesting forms, textures and subjects. I draw inspiration from the harmonious colour schemes often present in the natural environment when creating my Graphic Designs, or composing a Photograph or other work.

cheers and festive greetings my friend

  • Thank you Maggie! It was a great (but pretty quick!) photo shoot and I got some unusual shots – did you see my two-headed duck illusion?

Merry Christmas to you and your family! Where did this year go to? :-))

Great close up James wonderful details

  • Thanks for your nice comment! Technically, it’s just a fraction too close (by a few inches) but I’m still happy with it.

Hahaaaa! This one is giving you the look like the calm before the storm. I wonder if he chased you:) Great detail captured here James.

  • No, it didn’t chase me – they hang out close to the picnic table hoping to be fed some leftovers. I kind of think it’s an expression like “what’s a camera, and is it dangerous? Is this guy going to come any closer? (too close)”

nice and sharp, not too sure about the colour tone of the background.
    Phil W.

  • Thanks Phil! It was just a plain old boring mud background but it’s all about the duck, really. Wherever possible I crouch to get a more colourful bokeh backdrop or find an angle to include a more colourful background.

    Gorgeous, lovely tones !

  • Thank you Berns! It was a great photo shoot – there’s always a different way to shoot these subjects and I enjoy finding those angles/frame-ups.

Wonderful capture! Love the sepia finish – superb photo!

  • Thanks Shallay! There’s no treatment on this shot, it’s just a brown duck hiding in a little brown world. :))
