Frontside Bone Air - Empire Park Skate Park by

Frontside Bone Air

A local skater performs an advanced skate trick called a Frontside Bone Air in the deep end of the skate bowl at Empire Park Skate Park in Bar Beach, Australia.

An original digital photograph which was caught using a Canon 450D and a standard Canon 55 – 250 mm lens set at 55 mm.

Punk bands used to be very popular with skateboarders in the late 1970’s and up to the mid to late 1980’s. All of my friends at that time loved punk and some even went to the degree of getting Mowhawks and wearing studded Leather Jackets with Hand-Painted artwork on the back. One of my fave Punk discoveries from a Music show on TV or a Video Documentary called “The Decline Of Western Civilization” (I can’t remember exactly where I first found out about them) was called the Circle Jerks. Intense, high energy, fun music!

Circle Jerks – Wild In The Streets

The trick is performed by approaching the lip of the ramp and bumping the wheels off the coping – a little bit of a similar action to a regular ollie, but in this trick the tail doesn’t hit the ground and then bounce off the ground. As you begin to exit the top of the ramp and get airborne, you have to lean forward and grab the board reaching around from behind your back leg to grab around the middle of the board and hold onto it really tightly. Then while you are airborne, you have to push forward hard on your front foot/leg so that it becomes as close to straight as possible. As you finish the 180 degree rotation, look down at the top section of the bowl and get ready to land again, letting go of the board just before your wheels make contact with the ramp again (the landing) and you roll away.

I enjoy the whole creative process from beginning to end and seek to discover and portray the world in all of it’s rich, intense colours and interesting forms, textures and subjects. I draw inspiration from the harmonious colour schemes often present in the natural environment when creating my Graphic Designs, or composing a Photograph or other work.

    great capture James! ;)

  • Thank you Karin! :)) I must find the time to start adding a ton of graphics to these shots to add another dimension to these images. I have oodles of skate photos I could use from a few weeks ago.

    Love these action shots. :)

  • Thanks my friend! How have you been? :))x

I was talking to a Lady Photographer the next weekend after this and she took skate shots of me and posted them on Facebook – but I’m not on Facebook (RB is my “Facebook”). I’ll ask her the exact web address next time I spot her there – it’s my new “home” Skate Park now.
