I don’t see any where near as many Dragonflies now compared to how many I used to see when I was a kid. I suppose it’s mainly due to the fact that I don’t spend as much time outdoors now, so there’s a lot less chance of spotting them. I’d never seen a bright red one like this before, so it was awesome when I noticed it land right on the plant I was just getting ready to photograph. It didn’t stay there for very long so I had to work quickly to get some shots before it disappeared.

Newcastle, Australia.

The shot was taken using a Canon 450D and a standard Canon 55 – 250 mm lens set to full zoom. I added my own custom photographed textures in Photoshop Elements 7 to add some visual interest to the shot.

I became interested in Digital Photography when I got my first Digital Camera in 2004. Photography has grown into a real passion over the last few years as I have learned more and my skills have progressed. Buying a digital SLR in 2009 opened up a whole new world of Photographic possibilities that has substantially increased my interest and devotion to the craft.

    Cracking capture

    Dave

  • Thank you! It’s 18 months old and I would use Aperture Mode now instead of Program Mode as I did back then. But I’ve never seen a Red one again, so I’m lucky I got to shoot it then.

    Outstanding capature!

  • Thanks very much Wayne! It was one of those situations where you see something and only get to grab just a small handful of shots, then it’s gone.

I haven’t seen a red one before either, sure is the perfect standout against green – great texture add too – is it water? Wonderful work :)

  • I’ve seen red ones before, but they’re very rare to encounter here. I couldn’t help but notice Natures demonstration of colour theory and opposite colours creating high contrasts.

No, it’s not water – it’s a Barbeque Plate in a public park. I deliberately shot it at different proximities – this one was way too close, but great for accenting the bokeh effect.

I have never seen a red one – really showcased on that green – fantastic capture!

  • I hardly ever see Red ones either – they’re most often brown or grey one’s around here. Thanks Christiane, it did contrast well on that leaf!
