Cracking A Frontside Ollie by

Empire Park, Bar Beach – New South Wales, Australia. The old school skaters held a re-union for people that have been skating since the mid to late 1980’s.

This is a skater called R J Barbaro (who skates for Creature Skateboards and a few other skate companies) doing a skate trick called a Frontside Ollie at the event.

Canon 450D, 28-55 mm lens set at 55 mm, f/5.6 and 1/2000 of a second.

I enjoy the whole creative process from beginning to end and seek to discover and portray the world in all of it’s rich, intense colours and interesting forms, textures and subjects. I draw inspiration from the harmonious colour schemes often present in the natural environment when creating my Graphic Designs, or composing a Photograph or other work.

I have no idea what a Frontside Ollie is but it is a great picture. Perfect timing.

  • Frontside = facing the wave or skate surface when doing the trick. Backside= your back to the wave or skate surface when doing the trick. So he hit the tail of his board on the ramp and then pushed up and forwards to get airborne – that’s called an ollie. Thank you Lori!

    Nice work.Great action capture my friend.Well done…Tom

  • Thanks Tom! It’s the hardest skate spot I’ve ever shot – so deep in some spots that it’s difficult to see/follow them and then frame/click at the right moment.

Fantastic shot James! This is one scary Ollie!!! I’m glad my son has’nt tried this one!! (Not in front of me, at least!LOL) XXSUEXX

  • Thanks a lot! :)) He got much higher in the other shot I posted – and he was in the deeper part of the bowl too, adding to the risks. I’ve done them at other places, but not out the top of the bowl there yet.

Excellent work. I invite you to submit this to Male Appreciation We are creating a portrait of all men and their relationships to themselves, each other, their wives, partners and their worlds. This would add greatly to that portrait. Thanks for your consideration, Tom

  • Thanks for your feedback on my shot! At this stage, I’m not sure if I want to join any new RB groups but I appreciate the offer. James
