Metropolitan Life by reflector

A Design/Digital Illustration that has been slightly re-worked to be offered for sale as Cards and various types of Prints. It was created in Adobe Photoshop Elements 7 using an original digital photo taken at the Empire Park Skate Park in Newcastle using a Canon 450D.

Skateboarding is an addictive adrenaline sport enjoyed by millions of people all over the world. It’s naturally most popular in cities and towns where the urban landscape is filled with architecture and infrastructure that often isn’t constructed to be skated on – yet these spots can be very skateable and lots of fun. Laws prohibiting skating in such places eventually lead to skaters and the skate industry either building Skate Facilities themselves or lobbying Councils and Governments to construct suburban Skate Parks. The photo was captured at Empire Park Skate Park (in Bar Beach, Australia) and then digitally extracted or cut away from it’s background in Adobe Photoshop Elements 7 where I added the graphics and chose a colour scheme for the design.

I enjoy the whole creative process from beginning to end and seek to discover and portray the world in all of it’s rich, intense colours and interesting forms, textures and subjects. I draw inspiration from the harmonious colour schemes often present in the natural environment when creating my Graphic Designs, or composing a Photograph or other work.

Wonderful work, James. The combination of photography and digital art worked for you really well.

  • Thank you! :) I’m sure the guy will be stoked to see what I did with his photo – he didn’t see any of the photos I took that day and probably didn’t realize that I had captured him.

Magnificent! Love the bold colors and the skateboarder coming out!

  • Thank you Kim! I’d love to see the T-Shirt colours render the same tones, but they can’t due to .png limitations.

looks great Reflector, an awesome capture and artful collage!

  • Thank you Solomon! This was from my first photo shoot there and I’m capturing much better tricks there now that I can anticipate what tricks they are about to do and where.

very good, always a plus when you prepare and re-visit a particular place to re-shoot the same types of events, the shots are never the same – -all unique actions….

  • All skaters have their favourite tricks, their own style and capabilities so that all adds to the possibilities when shooting.
