I spotted this little brown Duck at Blackbutt Reserve (Newcastle, Australia) sitting down and trying to go to sleep. They crane their neck back a little so they can rest their head on their chest and go to sleep standing up. I slowly moved in closer to it, stopping at about a three feet away and then crouching to get the angle/perspective I wanted.

I became interested in Digital Photography when I got my first Digital Camera in 2004. Photography has grown into a real passion over the last few years as I have learned more and my skills have progressed. Buying a digital SLR in 2009 opened up a whole new world of Photographic possibilities that has substantially increased my interest and devotion to the craft.

Beautiful capture James~ wonderul detail and colors!
Thanks a lot! It was a great shoot that ended too soon when the rain started and I had to get to the car quickly.

Wonderful shot! I like the clarity of his eye and the details in his feathers! Nice one!
Thank you Kim! It was great to go back there with a better camera and re-try some bird portraits. It’s still a deceptively hard place to shoot at though – the light can change by the second due to the forest/hills all around it.

Fantastic capture
Thanks very much! Luckily it was pretty used to having people only 3 feet away so I could grab a couple of shots before I got too close and it “left”. :)

- And he woke up!
Good detail, including the water still wet on his beak.
I’ve got another one where you can see two droplets almost ready to fall of its beak – but this is the better shot. Thanks for your comment Shallay!

I didn’t flip it over to check the Gender, but it’s a nice duck all the same! :)) Thanks Sue!

I have been off a lot and missed some of your really good nature photography. You have made a pretty common creature into an extraordinary work of art. Great job.
Thanks for your much appreciated comment, Lori! It was great to return to that place a few years later with a better camera than last time.
