It was a stinking hot day, so to avoid the heat I arrived at the beach for a photo-shoot around sunset. There was a sea mist hanging over the coast so I couldn’t really catch any of the star-trails shots I’d hoped to include in my session, but it was still an interesting, challenging and productive shoot.

A long exposure shot (30 seconds at f/7.1) of the rock platform at Merewether in New South Wales, Australia. Canon 450D with a 55 – 250 mm lens, mounted on a tripod.

I enjoy the whole creative process from beginning to end and seek to discover and portray the world in all of it’s rich, intense colours and interesting forms, textures and subjects. I draw inspiration from the harmonious colour schemes often present in the natural environment when creating my Graphic Designs, or composing a Photograph or other work.

a fascinating view of rocky coast on this, a unique capture

  • Thanks a lot Solomon! It was quite a bit different to my expectations. I was hoping for blue water tones, but the sea mist dulled it all down towards darker hues.

    Nice capture my friend.Well done..Tom

  • Thanks Tom! There was so little light that the camera often couldn’t focus so I used Manual a lot.

Your timing was perfect, just enough light. We are freezing here. The high was only -10ºF. How about this, you sent some warm air and I will send some cold? ☺ Wonderful work, James.

  • Thanks Lori! The only ambient light was from the street lights along the promenade and at the pool, but it was totally black behind the scene above.
Yes, we could do with some cool air here – it’s been about 33-38 degrees Celsius every day for over a week, with another hot week to follow. :))

Great shot James … great timing and light♥

  • Thanks Bev! :)) There kind of wasn’t any light (a tiny bit of ambient light on some rocks), it just accumulated on the sensor over 30 seconds.

nice capture James, definitely a feeling of silence

  • Thanks Larry! The name of that old ballad by the same name from the 1950’s seemed a nice fit for the shot.

    Great image!

  • Thank you Joni! I’ll go there a lot earlier some other time to get a nice sunset shot in the same area.
