A clean and solid Autumn swell crashes on the rocks in Newcastle, Australia. The various shots along the bottom of the collage were all taken around Newcastle and Lake Macquarie using either a Sony Cyber-Shot or a Canon 450D. All of the images were combined using Adobe Photoshop Elements 7.

I enjoy the whole creative process from beginning to end and seek to discover and portray the world in all of it’s rich, intense colours and interesting forms, textures and subjects. I draw inspiration from the harmonious colour schemes often present in the natural environment when creating my Graphic Designs, or composing a Photograph or other work.

i love that crashing sea and great treatment
    :))

  • Thanks Maggie, it was a late shoot that started at the Fort above and ended at the beach below ! :)) There’s a lot of work in something that appears so simple. But that investment of time was worth it – I spent hours on graphic effects that looked radically different to this, just exploring my creativity.

    It’s brilliant !!!!

  • Thanks for your encouragement ! :) I liked the straight photo too and almost ran it like that until I decided it was time to keep experimenting with composition and it was a good image for that.

Marvellous work on this collage- love it!!

  • Thanks, very much appreciated ! I was thinking of calling it " I Love My City " [ I do ! ], or something similar but ended up sticking with this title since it is Autumn here.

You’ve set a great mood with those complimentary colours of green swell against reddish building/sky. I think I can hear the GPO bells dongling their last as they topple beneath the sea… James, could you do that? Is there a mischievous side of you that would love to see the GPO bobbing under that rough green swell? ;) The halo round the spire and shadow at top of the building just help add a little drama…

  • It’s not the GPO, it’s Customs House. :) I always try to stick to Colour Wheel Theory for everything I do, even photo captures [ if possible ]. Actually, I put a few buildings in the Harbour about a year ago as an attempt to depict a possible Global Warming future scenario. I’m very much a skeptic about all that – my attitude evolved over a few years, not suddenly. Anyway, my cloning attempt was crappy so I shelved the whole editing project.

You could make it like a cut-out from those bad sci-fi movies…

  • I could, but I think I deleted it in Anger after it gathered dust on my PC for a few months ! :)) Those Bad Sci-Fi movies are a great Laugh though – a great way to spend 5 minutes. :))

Ok. I can’t tempt you. Mothra and the Creature from the Black Lagoon (and I ) say goodnight.

  • I could still look for it, I might have it backed up somewhere. Godzilla say’s G’Day ! :)) Catch you Later.

    wonderful collage James~ Well done!

  • Thanks a lot for your support Cheryl ! :) I’m happy with it, but I’m still a bit restless to break out of my habitual preferences in Art and get looser with my designs. It’s not an easy process.

Very nicely put together James. Well done

  • Thanks a lot Al ! There was a decent ground swell coming in and there were some great waves breaking while I was there. I contemplated brushing the dust off my board and hitting the water before lunch the following day but ended up having to do something else.

Very creative, what a wonderful collage and piece James – very original work :)

  • Thanks Trish ! :)) It changed from a version with more graphical elements to a style that I seem to be a bit " stuck " in creatively – squarish layouts.
