There were two of these birds sitting right in the midst of a flock of seagulls and there were no hassles. When one wandered out of the pack I caught a few shots of it. I had no idea what they were called, but thanks to Google Image search it was easy to identify them.

The image was captured using a Canon 450D at Merewether Beach, in Australia.

I enjoy the whole creative process from beginning to end and seek to discover and portray the world in all of it’s rich, intense colours and interesting forms, textures and subjects. I draw inspiration from the harmonious colour schemes often present in the natural environment when creating my Graphic Designs, or composing a Photograph or other work.

A Gorgeous bird!! Outstanding capture colors and lighting!!!

  • Thanks Cheryl, it’s the first time I’ve photographed that species of bird. I’ll go back in a while to improve on my captures of it.

    Excellent lighting and capture James!

  • Thanks very much Cee ! I want to recapture this bird species and replace this shot – I caught some better poses but I’d moved around and had the wrong aspect to the sun.

James has really successful in picking up an image of a bird little known but very beautiful to me. I love the view!

  • I might replace this shot in a few minutes with one that shows the nice feathers on it’s head a bit better. Thank you ! :)

    Fantastic shot Reflector.

  • Thanks Jacqui ! I went there to shoot larger landscape scenes, but I shifted my attention to capturing the bird life when I saw these.

fantastic ! did he/they think he was a seagull ?was he adopted at birth and always wondered why he looked a bit odd?

  • As I was driving home I actually pondered how they can sit there right in the pack with another species. Maybe you have the answer ! :))

terrific capture – so sharp and such a great pose you caught with him puffing out his chest like that

  • Thanks Maggie, I’ve barely noticed these birds there before last weekends shoot. I’ve got another angle that I want to go back and recapture from, replacing this one.

    lets hope he’s a patient model then…LOL…
    :))

  • He or she wasn’t too concerned by my proximity. :)) I’ll tell you in a while what I did to make grabbing some flight shots feasible in a crowd that was just sitting there, nodding off.
