Carnivorous Wasps

[ I have amended this text after consulting an Entomologist ]

I was photographing a flowering tree and then noticed this Native Australian Wasp hive on it so I started to photograph it instead. Wasps catch bees, caterpillars, grasshoppers, spiders and many other types of prey and then feed them to their offspring. It was an incredible random find ! :))

I became interested in Digital Photography when I got my first Digital Camera in 2004. Photography has grown into a real passion over the last few years as I have learned more and my skills have progressed. Buying a digital SLR in 2009 opened up a whole new world of Photographic possibilities that has substantially increased my interest and devotion to the craft.

w0w! gREAt capture sweetheART never seen this b4 – inst fave ;} happy hippy hugglez

  • Thanks very much Val ! We have huge wild bee hives in Australia that are about 2 to 5 feet long and a few feet wide and they’re usually over 10 feet off the ground, up a tree. This was so much smaller and close to the ground – lucky me. :)

Amazing & interesting. Great shot James.

  • It was a win all around ! Nice flower macro’s [ posting later ], then I saw the Wasps hive, then I noticed the well camouflaged Wasps on it. :) I contacted some Entomologists online who identified what I had found – Native Australian Wasps on their own hive.
