With This Pen The Spell Is Cast by

A Collaboration With dinghysailor1:

The whole piece was created and processed using Photoshop Elements 7. Maggie took a very atmospheric shot looking through an archway to some picturesque hills in Scotland.

I added a couple of my own custom textures photographed in Newcastle. Then I found a great photographer on Deviant Art and used one of her moody staged portrait shots, cutting it away from it’s background and tinting it to match the backdrop. To view her impressive portfolio please visit mizzd-stock

I enjoy the whole creative process from beginning to end and seek to discover and portray the world in all of it’s rich, intense colours and interesting forms, textures and subjects. I draw inspiration from the harmonious colour schemes often present in the natural environment when creating my Graphic Designs, or composing a Photograph or other work.

Well done James – a great collab and use of deviantart stock. Wonderful.

  • Thank you Lindsay ! It’s the first time I’ve ever made an image by exploring Deviant Art and it was quite a bit of work to get finished. Maggie took a great shot – you could put dragons, angels or any fantasy item in that scene and it should look good.

Wonderful collaboration – you’ve chosen well the elements of this piece. Lovely work!

  • Thanks Lianne ! Maggie gave me a lot of great shots to use and that’s a great portrait shot for a fantasy piece too.

wow James! my jaw hit the floor when i saw this ! what amazing artwork and you have such talent to transform this so beautifully into such a great image!! I feel very honoured that you used my humble image and saw this in it.. i’m thrilled to pieces and cant thank you enough!!!

Of course her period dress is such a great added touch too and this is the archway looking out of neidpath castle with its tale of the tragic maid (see link) and seen in your other wonderful collaboration

Thanks again my friend for this wonderful opportunity to see my local scenes through your talented view..

  • Thanks for your very nice compliment Maggie ! You took a great shot and I was imagining Dinosaurs, Angels, and all kinds of things flying around above that tree. Maybe even the Wright Brothers ? :)

I disappeared into the Garage today and found a few new textures I’d never considered shooting before and used some in this one. I kept thinking that lady is a Witch, but she’s really a Fairy. I imagined she’s casting a Spell by digging the pen into her hand to write it in blood. A love spell – I started to write it but it didn’t flow without effort so I ditched it. :)

    Fabulous work.

  • Thanks a lot ! It’s a different kind of logistical challenge to make an image like this. Great photo’s from Maggie and Mizzd make it easier though.

    Absolutely fabulous!!!!

  • Thank you Cheryl, very much appreciated ! This was another great shot taken by Maggie – one that sparks the imagination really well. I’ve seen a lot of great Fantasy Art on RB using stock images and wanted to try that out too.

This is so beautifully put together! The colors, the technique and placement of her is spectacular! I love what you’ve done here – great choice of color! xx

  • Thanks for your very nice comment Maxy ! I’m still restless and feel I could have added more – but I almost always feel like that, so what’s new ? :)
