A body board rider races across the face of a wave as it breaks inside the entrance to Newcastle Harbour, Australia.
If you live near the coast and are physically fit enough, you should try riding a body board if you have never done it. You would be amazed at how much fun it is to fly along, pushed by a wave with your face so close to the water the whole time ! To turn, you push down on one side of the board [ the " inner rail ", closest to the face of the wave ] while pulling the " outer rail " [ closest to the trough or flat water ] up firmly. When you reach the top of the wave [ called the " Lip " ] or anywhere else you turned towards, you push on the opposite sides to the ones that took you there. You can go anywhere on the wave – it’s all up to you and your skill, creativity and determination. They give you an exciting ride in waves of any size and but they can also be ridden in the largest waves on the planet !
