The Golden Shores Of Bar Beach

I took this photo while standing on the relatively new viewing platform that sits above the cliff at the northern end of Bar Beach in Newcastle, Australia. The viewing platform has been integrated into a walking track called the Bathers Way that stretches from the lighthouse at Nobbys Headland south to Glenrock Reserve (all up, it’s a 5km coastal walk).

It’s a great view there and although I have stood there before and looked at the scenery in all directions (mainly looking seaward), it was the first time that I had considered taking any photos from that spot and now I’m so glad that I did.

I enjoy the whole creative process from beginning to end and seek to discover and portray the world in all of it’s rich, intense colours and interesting forms, textures and subjects. I draw inspiration from the harmonious colour schemes often present in the natural environment when creating my Graphic Designs, or composing a Photograph or other work.

Stellar! It appears as though you became a bird for a moment in time! Love the POV…looks as if you had a bird’s eye view!….the sky is awesome as well! Excellent artwork!

  • Ha, Har! :)) The platform appears to be supported by pylons that actually protrude from underneath it (naturally, lol) and are grounded somewhere below it in the side of a cliff that might be 70 to 100 feet high (I’m not an engineer and I didn’t go abseiling to check it all out in detail – I’m just theorizing here)! Yes, those clouds added nicely to the back of the scene/shot. Thanks Karen. :)

Wow… My place to be.. Lovely wide view. Good capture.

  • Many thanks Janone! It’s a place that I’ve shot many ways – down on the sand, looking north, south or straight out to sea as well as small objects or whole beach scenes. This framing was something I hadn’t used before.

    Beautiful capture, James!!! ☺♥

  • Thanks Evita! :))xx You can see what an “Ace” day it was by the colour of the water and the people along the shore enjoying it all. :))

Your water is pretty great too. Nice shot

  • Our water is “Ace” when it’s really clean and the sun is out. It can look so clear & blue at times, then other days it might look emerald if there is heavy cloud cover and the mix of sand is good below the water level. Florida, California and Newcastle offer many of the same kinds of scenery, hobbies & lifestyle options. Thanks D! :)

    Very nice…………..

  • It really is a fantastic stretch of beach! It’s a great lifestyle here too, besides just the scenery alone. So many things to do, so little time. :-)

Nice shot…nice description & camera settings.

  • Thanks Phil! It’s great have all of the options of an SLR. Up until mid-2009 I used a 6 MP Sony Cyber-Shot and the only real control it gave me over lighting was where you pointed the camera, changing the ISO setting, the White balance & the Exposure value. They in turn changed the f-stop but the camera did that – it wasn’t directly variable.

What a beautiful place and beautiful photo!

  • It sure is a magic city – the best little city in the world, actually! [millions & millions of people all over the world just got angry with me & stood in defense of their own city, claiming it holds that title]. Thanks for your feedback!
