This surfer was crouching down to fit himself into a small hollow wave or “tube” during one of his rides at a local reef break in Newcastle called the Cowrie Hole. As he glides across the wave, he’s smiling and enjoying the thrill and the challenge of “getting tubed”.

The afternoon light was quickly abating, so I decided to shoot in Aperture Mode instead of Shutter Priority and pump up the ISO speed far above what I usually prefer. I applied a few of my own Custom-Photographed textures in Adobe Photoshop 7 to give the image a retro or psychedelic look.
