Almost Invisible - Double Take K-Grind

Look closely at this one, there’s a skateboarder doing a K-Grind ! It’s a trick where the skater ollies ( an aerial manouever without grabbing the board with your hand ) and lands on his front truck and does a nose manual grind until he jumps off the object.

It took a few shots before I even managed to get the skater in the photograph. You have to roll pretty fast when you ollie up to a rail like this one, so you are not in the frame for very long – just a fraction of a second. I clicked, but by the time the Flash fired the skater was out of view. So I had to take the same photo 4 or 5 times until I worked out what it sounded like as he skated towards the rail. When I heard the skateboard reach a certain distance on the right of the shot I clicked. By the time the flash fired he was just about one third of the way into the frame and I got my shot.

Hi Nicole ! Thanks for looking and liking ! Maybe we use the same technique, but I can’t be sure about that.

I’ve got one just like this, without your cool processing. Nice choice of colour.

Thanks Cathleen for your cool comment ! It’s a hand made sepia-like filter. I made about 4 different versions of the two skate photos, but you can’t put them up in one day because of the upload limits. Anyway, there’s another limit – people don’t look at all the versions, and if there are too many then some of them just ” flop ”.

great shot… crowdace bay’s my local sk8 park, I’ve taken plenty of photos here!

Thanks Wanagi ! I’ve only taken about 7 photos of skating with a digital camera, and only 3 were worthwhile results.

Thanks a lot ! I was very happy with the look of the two shots I got that night – reminded me of Flash Gordon on the move.
