Speed Slash
A surfer performs a Speed Slash, also known as a Re-entry or Top Turn at Merewether Beach in New South Wales. For waves that small, this surfer was generating some very nice speed and had a lot of control over his board. The wind was pretty gusty taking this shot [ 30 knots ? In Spring ? ] – it could knock you from your stance and push you around.

Speed Slash belongs to the following groups:

wonderful image, love the trail behind the bord, well done

Thanks for your comment and making it a favourite Daniel ! He was moving so fast that if you framed him to the right, he’d be here on the left when you captured.

Nice action shot James – well done!♥
reflector replied
Thanks Bev ! He was the standout surfer in that pack. It was great to get some shots where I actually thought about how fast a camera captures and when to capture at the peak of action. :)x
blamo
Lovely splash James
reflector replied
Thanks Blamo ! I caught a few good shots of him and others surfers, but it sure was windy ! :)

Great capture James! You did excellent job with the wind working against you!! :-)
reflector replied
It actually blew my head light protector off [ in the first 5 minutes there ! ] and trashed it ! :(
But after I recovered from that I caught some nice shots. Thanks Jon !

Fantastic capture James~ love the water behind the surfer!
reflector replied
Many thanks Cheryl ! A board cuts up the water like a jet ski when you accumulate a bit of speed.
Tara Turner
great action shot James :)
reflector replied
Thanks a lot ! It was a bit windy, but I’m glad I went – today the surf is lousy.

Lori Peters
Great action out there, James. I miss living by the ocean when I see pictures like this. Great work. xo
reflector replied
Thanks Lori ! I was determined to improve on the surf shots from that other weekend, so I spent more time understanding how the guys attacked a wave. :)xx
Ric Alexander
Looks even better if viewed large, well done.
reflector replied
Thanks Ric ! It would look better again if I was standing on the beach to get closer to the action, but the sand would have been flying down there !
emolena
Great shot !

Thank you ! Nice to see you back !
Rainy
