Sea Rider

A body board rider races across the face of a wave as it breaks inside the entrance to Newcastle Harbour.

If you live near the coast and are physically fit enough, you should try riding a body board if you have never done it. You would be amazed at how much fun it is to fly along, pushed by a wave with your face so close to the water the whole time ! To turn, you push down on one side of the board [ the ” inner rail ”, closest to the face of the wave ] while pulling the ” outer rail ” [ closest to the trough or flat water ] up firmly. When you reach the top of the wave [ called the ” Lip ” ] or anywhere else you turned towards, you push on the opposite sides to the ones that took you there. You can go anywhere on the wave – it’s all up to you and your skill, creativity and determination. They give you an exciting ride in waves of any size and but they can also be ridden in the largest waves on the planet !

Body boarding is a buzz!!!!! Haven’t done it in a looooong time, but still remember the feeling. Very cool shot James. Love the work and description too mate. Well done

  • reflector replied

Thanks Shane, it is fun ! I only usually did it when the waves were smaller, as a change from my surfboard. Sometimes I’d go out in excellent conditions on a body board to see how they ride in those conditions. Thank you for your response.

Amazing creation James! Looks like a combination of a photograph and painting.

  • reflector replied

    Thanks Anne-Marie ! It’s a photo-manipulation that’s supposed to resemble an old painting.

Ha, I am buying a new body board for my daughter, and we are going to try it out on the storm beaches near us. I like this image, Looks exciting.

  • reflector replied

Thanks Ric ! I just did it as a novelty when the waves were smaller and not as good for a surfboard, or if I was at the beach all day and felt like a different experience and challenge. Be careful taking your daughter to a rough beach though. She should be a good swimmer [ leashes can break ! ] and you should be able to spot rips and strong undertows. Thanks for the fave ! :)
