nice capture of that wave on the rock! brilliant!
reflector replied
Thanks very much Dinghy ! The large view on RB is tiny – that water on the left looks like cob webs in full Res. Thanks for the fave !

reflector replied
Thanks Al, I got close to this but I know that spot well ! It used to be one of my fave reef break surf spots in town.
Danilo Lejardi
Yes, I agree, the camera POV and the parameters you chose for this capture make you feel like being there. Spectacular!

Thanks so much Danilo for your awesome comment, and the favourite ! I used to be addicted to surfing and that wave at the right is brilliant on a good day.

Wonderful timing!! :)) Great work!
reflector replied
Thanks again ! I want to catch it earlier so it’s exploding upwards – takes a few tries to time it properly though.

Perfect freeze – this is wonderful! The rock with lacy-holed wave – water is such a surprise – its’ shape is infinite. Very intense focus, James.
(Curious to hear your comment on the waves, the wave on the right… being a non-surfer, I wouldn;t have a clue)
reflector replied
I’m really close – standing on the edge of the rock shelf to catch this. There are 2 waves in the top right corner and this is almost dead low tide. But on a high tide [ until mid-tide ] those waves are excellent – very mechanical the way they break and that’s what makes the spot so good to surf.
shallay
High tide til mid tide – fascinating to hear this interaction with nature. The only thing I notice about tides is that when it’s out, I can walk my dog further. Fisherman are in tune with tides too…
If you liked surfing so much, I wonder why you’re not still out there? Of course, we have this big bogey shark scare going on in SA at the moment…
reflector replied
It’s a reef break so it breaks cleanly on high, but there are more tubes as the tide heads towards low. But at dead low you might rip a fin out there or break your board.
I moved to Sydney and gradually lost my addiction to surfing. I just don’t get hungry to surf now. It’s like trying to be converted a second time or restarting a relationship that was “really over, so over”.
blamo
The power of the sea caught perfectly James
reflector replied
Thanks Blamo ! I wanted this proximity to the splash 2 weeks ago but knew this spot better – can’t get the camera wet.

WOW! Great shot James :)
reflector replied
Thanks very much for looking and faving it Kylie ! <:0

Ok! lol – If it’s over, it’s over! Just weird that you can stay on the shore and yet know so much about the water (and after telling me exercise is good for the heart!) I have to take your word that the magic is gone. Fishermen seem to stay that way for life. Maybe waves are about youth & energy – I gather nothing would change even if you went back to your past haunts.
reflector replied
Surfers depend on tides and swell for their fun. After just a few months you get to know what spots will be promising when you hear the weather forecast or feel the breeze etc. Most surfers are into it for life and I thought I would be too. It was a very gradual death of enthusiasm.
