I focus mainly on landscapes, and am a follower of Adams, Weston, and Steichen. I find the “Straight Photography” movement to be my main influence, therefore I use little to no manipulation in my work even though I shoot mostly digitally. Instead I photograph in much the same way individuals fish or watch birds. One’s equipment, technique, and talent can only go so far. There comes a point where your ability and effort take a back seat to Nature. The fish bites or it doesn’t, the bird comes into site or it stays hidden, I wait for the light to create a moment to be captured – these moments cannot be created in post production.
I also use 35 mm black and white and slide films as well as 6×6 medium format. I live in the Midwest but find most of my subject matter west of the Mississippi. Most recently I spent seven weeks traveling and photographing in Minnesota, Alaska, and the Four Corners area.
