UNDER SURVEILLANCE

This is a collection of photography entitled Under Surveillance, hosted on Behance.com.

Some facts about CCTV in the UK;

Massive investment in CCTV cameras to prevent crime in the UK has failed to have a significant impact, despite billions of pounds spent on the new technology, a senior police officer piloting a new database has warned. Only 3% of street robberies in London were solved using CCTV images, despite the fact that Britain has more security cameras than any other country in Europe.

Both the Shetland Islands Council and Corby Borough Council – among the smallest local authorities in the UK – have more CCTV cameras than the San Francisco Police Department.

The borough of Wandsworth in London has the highest number of CCTV cameras in London, with just under four cameras pe…

A YEAR IN ENGLAND

I’ve just uploaded my first 2012 calender, early I know! It still feels like summer in the UK thanks to a very late and long overdue ‘mini heatwave’ (nb: in Britain the press call 1 weeks worth of sunshine a ‘heatwave’… everywhere else this is considered ‘normal’). However Christmas and the new year is on the way and I thought I might just attempt to plan ahead for once in my life.

Anyway, enjoy and I hope you like it… comments always welcome :)

London street photographers test their right to photograph on public space

I was recently made aware of this video made by the shoot experience team on Wirefresh. It highlights what photographers shooting in a public space in London can expect from private security guards working for firms or private property owners. It offers really useful advice about how to deal with such encounters and standing up for your rights as a photographer in a public space.

One thing I am pleased about in this video is the positive attitude of the police in these encounters, showing them to be professional, well informed and generally friendlier all round.

EXPERIMENTS WITH LIGHT AND SHADOW

I must confess I have been a bit addicted to using another site instead of Redbubble lately…The Behance Network.

The powers that be inside RB should not worry, this site handily links to RB’s Buy/Preview page so I’m sure they’ll make a tidy little buck should RB members start using it to promote their RB page like I do.

So anyway, I’m addicted to using it because I can upload projects in a blog style as opposed to uploading them as individual pieces on RB. This is great if you’ve got many pieces of work that are only relevant as part of a project. An example is my the project below, a collection of photography experiments with Light and Shadow. Many of these I wouldn’t want to upload on to RB as single pieces, but when included in a collection they …

SPIKE'S ON THE HOMEPAGE!!!

My little kitty Spike (AKA Vam-Puss) and his terrifying yawn have made it to the Redbubble homepage! I can’t believe it, 1 year old and already a star!

Thanks for all the comments :)

The Behance Network

Hello all,

Has anybody heard of, or is currently using The Behance Network as a portfolio for their work? I stumbled upon it while using errr Stumbleupon and have been really impressed by the quality of the site. It it pretty much just a blogging tool for creatives, but is crisp, attractive and easier to use than most other ones out there. I found it links really well with Redbubbles Buy/Preview page so you direct can easily direct possible sales to the relevant page which is really handy.

Here’s my profile page, let me know what you think and send me a link to yours if you use it.

Cheers

BROKEN BRITAIN

Once the vampire banks have sucked the blood out of the country, all that is left is for the toxic capitalist sludge to turn our lifeless bodies into zombie slaves and we are ready to go! Serving our Eton schooled masters until we retire at 70. I know, it’s slightly over-dramatic.. but I wanted to get your attention

So, we are in the middle of the worst recession for god knows how long and things don’t seem to be getting better. With Greece, Portugal, Ireland and possibly Spain heading towards bankruptcy things could still be moving in the wrong direction…and this is after so many billions in bailouts I’ve stopped counting!

How have we let this happen, how could we not noticed this pressure building to breaking point…well there is an easy answer, greed! We wer…

WOMEN ON WALLS (URBAN BEAUTY)

Below is a collated selection of my favourite urban art images celebrating the female form, all of which I have discovered on walls during my travels. Some of these are permanent fixtures…however many are gone. I think you’ll agree no matter whatever your view on graffiti/Urban art/vandalism (all discussed here Urban Décor Pt 2… Artist vs Criminal by Redtempa ) they are interesting pieces of art in their own right. I love the way they soften the otherwise hard edge and grimy, inner city scenes with real visions of beauty and soul.

For more information on the artists that have created the art please click on the individual photos themselves… I have tried to credit them where possible.
