Artist's Description

ink and pencil drawing on 9″×11″ sketchbook paper inspired by the moon
Moon Shadow
goddess. I dont know how the kitty crept into the drawing.
“In Greek mythology, Selene was an archaic lunar deity and the daughter of the Titans Hyperion and Theia. Her equivalent in ancient Roman religion and myth is Luna, Latin for moon
Selene is the sister of Helios (the sun) and Eos (the dawn) and is the deity presiding over the night, ocean tides, magic, childbirth, dew, lunacy, nursing and the months. So by extension, her domain encompasses everything the moon can be connected to. As the Roman goddess, Luna, she had a temple on the Aventine Hill. It was built in the sixth century BC, but was destroyed in the Great Fire of Rome during Nero’s reign. There was also a temple dedicated to Luna Noctiluca (”Luna that shines by night") on the Palatine Hill.
