acrylic, watercolour and ink on 9″×11″ sketchbook paper painting of my great aunt Bette. Its from a photo I only just remember. The thing that stuck in my head was her coat. It was some sort of curly, dark fur with a fluffy smoky trim. She and my grandmother owned a hat shop and ran it on their own for a few years in the Twenties. She was pretty wild. She loved fast cars but they didnt love her.

This is another painting I did of Aunt Bette. She was out driving with the pedal to the floor when she flipped the car. No more car, no more Aunt Bette, but she lives on in my admiration of a very independent woman who took full advantage of the spirit of the Roaring Twenties.
