Artist's Description

This is dedicated to the poet George Fillingham and Spankypants who was rescued from a tree.
Oh! The haiku is mine.

The Firecat must flee
Up to the rooftop chimney
Snowflecked nose so cold

Acrylic painting on 9″×12″ canvas of my cat inspired by the works of Wallace Stevens and by a cat I saw sleeping on a roof by a vent

Firecats real name is Spanky Pants. My husband swore “No More Cats!” Famous last words, right? He was delivering his mail route and heard a tortured crying. He stopped and looked everywhere. Finally, he saw Spanky up a tree. It was around 100 degrees that day and only 1pm or so. He asked neighbors to call fire dept to rescure the tiny (at the time) kitten. He was going by the movie version of firemen not the one today that is restricted by all sorts of insurance rules. Two hours later, he drove by on the other side of the street and Spanky was still up there howling so he asked a vet on his route to rescue the kitten and was told they’d check into it. At 6 when he got off work he drove by the tree again and…yup…there’s Spanky still yelling his head off. Ron drove home got a ladder and me (to catch whoever fell out of the tree first.)

What else is there to say? Now we have 5 cats…all of them found us.
