The distinctive red and white striped lighthouse at Portland Bill (Isle of Portland, Dorset, England) was built in 1906 and is 35 metres (115 feet) high.
The Trinity House operated structure was the third lighthouse to be built at Portland Bill to protect shipping from the shallow reef and tidal race conditions surrounding the headland.
Nearby Portland harbour was the venue for the 2012 Olympic sailing events.
