Ferrari are not the only company to use the ‘Prancing Horse’ logo, as can be seen on this 1970 Aveling and Barford dump truck, still looking good at 40.
The Aveling Barford company was formed in 1933, an amalgamation of two other UK companies – Aveling & Porter and Barford & Perkins, both manufacturers of steam and motor rollers.
The company continued to produce road rollers and other construction equipment from its base in Grantham, Lincolnshire.
The Aveling Barford marque is currently owned by Wordsworth Holdings, who sadly went into administration in March 2010, a victim of the recession. Let’s hope the marque can be saved.
