Sandford Lock

Number of views as of 30th August 2014 = 660.

The latest in my collection of English Pubs, here is the King’s Arms, Sandford Lock, Oxfordshire England.

Sandford, just a couple of miles south of the city of Oxford is the site of one of the first three pound locks built on the River Thames in 1630. The lock was rebuilt in 1795 and 1836 and over the years has undergone several modifications and updates.

Date: 20th March 2009.

Thanks for sharing, if these old building could talk what stories they could tell

  • You’re so right Larry!
Sandford apparently has its share of ghost stories – here’s one …

“One night we actually did see a ghost in Sandford. We were just about to cross the bridge over the millstream (and it was already quite dark) when we spotted a misty spectre staring at us through a gloomy window of the paper mill. We were sure it was the figure of a man in a tunic like the ones worn by the soldiers in Robin Hood.”
