A Collection of Festive Art and Design

Tree Tent by Luke Pearson

Our holiday season wouldn’t be complete without a selection of festive-themed art and design on the RB blog so we’ve whipped up a small collection of some of the finest festive works by RB artists. Does the silly season inspire you to produce new work? Are you a little more grinch-like when it comes to tinsel and fairy lights? Do you have any festive themed works of your own? We’d love to hear from you in the comments below.

If you enjoy this collection, please feel free to share this post using the tweet and like buttons at the top right of the page. And if you’€™d like to leave a comment for an artist, add a work to your favorites, or buy any of these works, just click on the individual images to visit the work pages.

The History of the Krampus Card

Image Credit: Photographer Carsten Peters for National Geographic December 2010

The Krampus has its origins in Germanic folklore and has traditionally been seen as a mythological ‘anti-santa’ – part goat, part devil creature with cloven hooves and a demonic, terrifying tongue. The popularity of the Krampus flourished in the 18th and 19th Century in Bavaria and Austria, with Krampus Christmas Cards becoming a popular illustrative choice. Their unique style became known as Krampuskarten Cards.

The myth goes that children who disobey their parents will be scared by the Krampus with rusty bells and chains. While this threat is fairly tame compared to some European fairy tales, there’s no denying that depictions of the Krampus can be pretty darn terrifying. In recent y…

Glad Tidings and a Festive Playlist

We were so apprehensive when Mr Baxter volunteered to DJ at this year’s RB Christmas Party, we even devised a backup plan should he whip out Bieber’s back catalogue. But it turns out there was no need to spike his drinks, lock him in the stationery cupboard and commandeer the radiogram after all. The man has Soul. Where he’s been hiding it all these years, one can only guess.

So as a thanks to bubblers near and far for keeping us on our toes this year, we’ve raided his vinyl collection and put together ten of “Baxter’s Greatest Hits”. Whether you’re stuffing the turkey, roasting chestnuts by an open fire or ingesting your 15th complimentary sausage roll at the office party, the tracks below are guaranteed to liven up your festive season. We …

Glad Tidings From All of Us to All of You

As the large man in the red suit prepares to depart from the North Pole, we’d just like to say a big thanks to each and every one of you for providing us with inspiration throughout the year and for making this community such a wonderful and unique place. We wander around in a permanent state of amazement at the talent we encounter and the endless amounts of kindness, encouragement, entertainment and motivation you offer each other.

This year, our cockles have been warmed by artists who embraced the unknown in an effort to try something new or so willingly offered a helping hand to others. We’ve been inspired by watching people grow creatively and we’ve seen friendships form. We’ve had our faith restored by artists who’ve overcome their differences, a…

The First Christmas Card and a Mini Challenge

In 1843, English civil servant and inventor Sir Henry Cole hired artist John Calcott Horsley to create what was to be a very important comissioned work – a hand coloured triptych, depicting a family celebration in the centre panel, charitable acts of feeding and clothing the poor on either side, with the inscription “Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to You”.

And so the first ever printed Christmas card was created and offered for sale as the result of a little laziness and far too big a print run. Cole was too busy to take part in the tradition of creating hand written greetings so saw this as a time saving measure. Having printed too many copies, John Calcott Horsley then offered the extras for sale at one shilling each. The card also caused controversy in some cor…

RedBubble Christmas Shipping Deadlines 2010

After careful consultation with our production partners, the shipping deadlines for Christmas orders have been locked in. In the past year we’ve taken measures to localize production in a number of countries so deadlines for shipping will vary depending on the products you are ordering and where you are located. To make this easier to follow we’ve prepared a table for each country, so you just need to scroll down to the table that covers your part of the world. To give your orders the best chance of arriving before December 24th, we advise placing your Christmas orders before the following dates.
