Supporting and encouraging other artists

The generosity and support that artists on RedBubble show each other is something that makes the community unique. We encourage each other by leaving positive and meaningful comments, favouriting works and adding artists to our watchlists. Some bubblers also do an incredible job of spreading the word about other artists through newsletters, interviews, journals, by maintaining blogs and other through activities. Many group hosts in particular are tireless in providing opportunities and exposure for others. Take a look at some of these examples:

Blurry, Beautiful, Lensbaby

We have four Lensbaby winners in the Embrace the Blur Lensbaby challenge. The winning entries (by popular vote and curatorial pick) are:

The artists are sashdc, lywylde, Reynandi Susanto and JudyBJ. Each of these artists will receive a remarkable Lensbaby Composer.

This has been a fabulous challenge at RedBubble with 1876 works entered. There are some of the most moving and imaginative images we have ever seen in one place. In recognition of this we have picked out a further 4 images as curatorial picks to receive a $100 RedBubble voucher. They are:

There are innumerable other great images but here are the rest of the top 10 popular and a few others that just caught our eye.

Congratulations to everyone who participated in this challenge. I want to particularly thank Lensba

The Music Machines Take London

It’s raining in Londontown, as you’d expect, but in the hearts of our five Music Machines winners I reckon the Sun is doing some sort of tango with a blue sky, a butterfly and possibly a squirrel. A final cheer for goaferboy, douglasbot, Greg Wade, rubyred and Naf4d whose shirts are all snugly displayed in Demo and being steadily rotated around window, door and rack. Good work peoples.

Any Bubbler in the vicinity of Carnaby Street should get themselves down and check out the quality merchandise.

Until next time my little cotton lovers.

Product Review: Framed and Matted Prints

This week we’re continuing our series of products reviews, for those who are new to RedBubble and as a refresher for bubblers who’ve been with us for a little longer. A great deal of effort goes into chosing products, examining alternative formats and testing the print quality so we can do justice to the great artwork on RedBubble. Today we’re putting framed and matted prints under the microscope. The reusable frames and matted prints can be purchased seperately or you can buy them together as a framed print.

Quality is important to us. We think your art should be presented at it’s best so we put a great deal of thought and planning into the materials we use and the way we print and produce your artworks.

The nitty gritty:

  1. Made from fine art canvas using Giclée Printing
  2. Mounted on high quality, sustainably grown hardwood for a sturdy frame
  3. Water based clear lacquer applied as a UV barrier and to protect from scuffing
  4. Easy to clean and fade proof

Product Review: The T-Shirt

We thought it would be a good idea to take a more in depth look at some of our products, for those who are new to RedBubble and as a refresher for bubblers who’ve been with us for a little longer. A great deal of effort goes into chosing products, examining alternative formats and testing the print quality so we can do justice to the great artwork on RedBubble.

It’s a little known fact that our quest for the best t-shirt quality meant travelling as far as Israel. We wanted to make sure we were getting the best out of the printer so we decided to track down the guy who invented it. As he was so helpful, we thought it was only fair to start our series of product reviews with t-shirts.

Lensbaby: Embrace the Blur

Lensbaby is offering the chance for RedBubble members to win one of their remarkable Composer lenses. They are offering four lenses for the best images that highlight the creative potential of sharpness contrasted with blur.

HERE IS WHERE YOU ENTER

We are thrilled to be able to offer the Lensbaby lenses to the RedBubble community. To our mind the power of the images made possible with their lenses (Selective Focus SLR Lenses) mimic how we see. Some things leap clearly into focus while others are diffused. They give the power to the photographer to share their creative viewpoint. The Lensbaby Group on RedBubble shows some of the creative potential of these lenses.

You don’t need to use a Lensbaby lens to enter the challenge. Just demonstrate the creative potential of blur in a photog…

Happy Behind a Pencil

After consultation with Stefan Sagmeister we now have four winners of signed copies of his book “Made You Look” from the Happy Challenge.

Before naming names, I want to say what a pleasing project this is. I know it was difficult for many to fit things to the template but the overall result was that we got a wonderful look behind the pencil, paintbrush, camera. Stefan commented on how remarkable the entries were and the overall impact was startling. For me it was a simple delight to see how so many of you see yourselves. And I thank you for your courage.

I wish we had more books to give away. But all the entries will be heading to New York where Stefan will be animating them for inclusion in his Happy film. Now … any of you who have anything to do with movies know that f…

Sagmeister Interview

The Happy Project collaboration with Stefan Sagmeister has been rocking along and we’ve been impressed by the fantastic portraits are being entered. Some of our artists were ridiculously excited about the chance to collaborate with one of the world’s most creative and inspiring designers, so we gave them the opportunity to quiz Stefan on the Happy project and his own attitude to happiness.

Natalie Perkins: Do you consider yourself a designer even when you’re not being paid to solve problems, and if so, how can you separate that from being an “artist” who solves personal/cultural problems?

Stefan: Yes, I consider myself a designer at all times, no matter in what kind of project I’m involved in. I went to design school, run a design office and publish mo…

The People Have Spoken

Of course by ‘people’ we mean you, and by ‘spoken’ we mean clicked on the vote button under their favourite Music Machines tee.

The Demo competition is now closed and twenty extraordinarily excellent tee designs have weaved their way to the front of the queue, thanks to YOU and your finger.

Before we hand them to Demo to choose the Top Five ultimate champions, please put down your coffee, comb your hair and make some noise for these twenty finalists:

You can view all the superb entries here.

The final selection will be announced shortly, watch this space. Well not this space, but, oh, you know what we mean.

Spoons Down, It's T-Shirt Challenge Time

Put your breakfast to one side, we have some exciting news. Are you sitting down?
Of course you are, who computes standing up.

Fancy your t-shirts hanging in London’s illustrious Carnaby Street?
Well get your chosen weapons sharpened, dusted, polished or refilled, because it’s time for another RedBubble/Demo T-Shirt Challenge Extravaganza.

This time the theme is Music Machines, which should give your neurons plenty of creative space to play. We’re thinking steampunk pianos, cassette tape caravans and tributes to the trombone. Basically anything involving a musical instrument, weapon or tool.

Go check out the rest of the details here.

And for those of you who had your eyes closed, here’s how legendary it looked last time. and even the time before.

Mr Baxter's Guide to Making RedBubble Stuff

Hello! My name is Mr Baxter, and I’m going to tell you a story.

As we’ve had a few new members of staff join RedBubble recently, not least myself, we thought it was about time to remind everyone exactly how all the marvellous products that adorn the office and so many of your homes are actually made.

However, they are mainly made in the Australian countryside, or Horsham, to be more specific, which is a very long drive. So to avoid the sort of fights that prolonged time on a bus normally brings, we decided to steal a plane.

It wasn’t very big, but it fitted us all neatly, and afforded remarkable views of Melbourne as we left. This thoroughly made up for the brutal hour in which we were forced to rise.

Above you can see the machine we use to print all the posters, it w…

Cotton Flavoured News

If any Londoner had chosen to brave Saturday’s blistering 18’ and shuffled down to one of our more fashionable districts and into a certain Demo Store, they’d have had their awe neuron shattered as an immense wave of ‘excellence in t-shirt design’ overcame them.

Yes, the winners of our most recent Sound tee competition have hit the shelves, to the delight of 12 million shoppers and considerably more pigeons.

Let’s once again put our mouse down and our hands together for the clear champions Ine Spee, Cathie T, Scott Robinson, Nick Ford and DieselLaws.

That’s enough words, show me those pictures……

This is the mannequin they’ll all eventually get displayed on.

The Sound of the winner's envelope ...

After many cups of tea, heated debates and a fair bit of chin rubbing the good folks at Demo have come back to us with their final choices from the Sound Competition finalists. They have demanded five shirts and who are we to say no. So without further ado, the envelope. And the five winners are (drum solo … ahem, I mean roll) …

In First Place: Ine Spee’s Whistle Boy …

Followed closely in second by Cathie T’s Wired From Birth …

Then next over the line is Scott Robinson’s Audiohive Electric …

Follwed by Nick Ford’s Hard Roctopus …

And in at number five we have DieselLaws’ Music Head

A huge round of applause to the winners and a massive thanks to everyone who took part! The standard of entries was incredibly high making …

Take London

So this is one of those moments when words won’t really do justice to the gravitas of the situation. You really need to be there. But some of you have crazy excuses like being ‘in entirely the wrong hemisphere’ so words and a heap of glorious pixels will have to do.

You’ll remember we had quite possibly the greatest tee competition ever? (Until this one of course) Well there were five champions, Simon Sherry with Cruel Britannia, geniusloci with London Calling, ToastedGhost with Call London, sjem’s big bentaur and rubyred’s Graffiti Heraldry.

And their winning shirts are now adorning a shelf, and in Simon’s case a window, in snow filled London town.

It really doesn’t get much better than this.

You’ll notice here, asides from a cou…
