A number of weeks ago we set you the task of creating a brand new, highly original comic book character to be shown off and given away as a limited edition t-shirt at RedBubble’s booth at this year’s New York Comic Con. And you answered the call in true RedBubble style – with plenty of designs featuring skin tight lycra and an unhealthy amount of lethal weaponry. And so the time has come to announce the winners of the New York Comic Con Challenge.
In First Place: We couldn’t agree more with this choice for first place. As voted by the community and selected by the judges, our overall winner is The Colonel by Steven Austin. Congratulations Steven! As we speak, The Colonel is being transported to a high security location where he’ll be transformed into a limited edition RedBubble NYCC 2011 t-shirt in preparation for next week’s New York Comic Con.
Runners Up: And our three runners up are equally impressive! Congratulations to shanamation, Matthew Dunn and Simon Sherry for the following entries:

The Red Bubbler! by shanamation

Brother Mayhem by matthewdunnart

Tankfist Steelhammer – Mightiest of the Mighty by Simon Sherry
Congratulations to the winners and to everyone who entered. We know we say this a lot with RB challenges but there were some really very impressive entries. We hope you enjoyed creating them. And about that mystery prize. We’re afraid we still can’t reveal all until later this week so you’ll have to keep an eye on the RedBubble blog for more info. Stay tuned for further news!
If you’re particularly impressed with the entries above, you might like to pop over to the works to leave the winners a congratulatory comment. We’re sure it will be most appreciated. You can check out all the fabulous entries here. And if you’re the proud owner of a ticket to this year’s New York Comic Con, we’ll be hanging out somewhere around here. Hope to see you next week!

Oh my god – so damned happy!! Thanks everyone.
Just getting home from work – yeah its nearly midnight here, a late one – and received a B mail notification from the talented Mr David Kennett congratulating me on my win so I wrote a B mail back thanking him but explaining that I had only won the first round. Then I get a Twitter message from the talented Mr Sherry congratulating me on my win and I think – hang on – Simon knows how this works, he wouldn’t be congratulating me on my first round win so I rush home turn on the puta and….I’VE WON!! First thing i’ve won…ever…and first prize is so big for me you wouldn’t believe it – the NY Comic Con. Now I have to go a wake the house… thanks all :) :)

Yeah, congrats to everyone! Being involved with this community is a good source of warm fuzzies! Just like Steve said, I have never won anything either, so to get a runners up is great! And in such fine company not only with the all the placings, but everyone else who took a crowbar to their noggin and wedged out a bunch of fantastic creations. Huzzah!

With the exception of ‘The Red Bubbler’ why are all the entries shown above of a violent nature? I’m so tired of seeing aggressive looking characters toting weapons and blood splatter.
