Today we are having a day of portraits on the front page. As we get more content it is easier to do these theme days which we think are interesting and also allow for us to resurface older works. Let us know if you have any particular themes you would like to see on the front page.
As an aside, a few folks have asked what monstrously complicated algorithm is used to put it together. Well we use the most complex of all – the human brain. It tends to be a bit of a free for all with different members of the team advocating different things but we aim for variety, colour, balance, freshness and obviously quality works. We also try to update it at least twice a day.

I like this idea. You could even have a row of random images form the gallery, and then the second row themed.
