RedBubble Update - Greeting Cards !
Cards Cards Cards
The big news this week is the launch of Greeting Cards – Nearly any image can be sold as a greeting card on RedBubble, any file of about 1Mpix or larger ! The product itself is beautiful, photographically printed, bonded with high grade paper and folded. Here’s what it looks like – Just click the card icon at the top.
Please make your work avaliable as cards – RedBubble is all about artists choice, you need to tick the box to sell cards.
Updates to the Watermarks
So we pushed these out a few weeks ago and had a heap of feedback from confused buyers, not sure if the watermark would be on the final product.
In response we’ve changed the way we are doing this. There isn’t a water mark on the smaller image so buyers can see it clean, on the larger image we are still displaying the watermark – we’ve tried to make it subtle and explain it a little better while still protecting your images.

Looks Great Mr/Mrs RedBubble!
Well done, keep up good work!
Anne van Alkemade
It looks fantastic. Congrats also on the new-look frame options. Gives a much better idea of the quality of framing.
I checked out the cards which I’m really interested in too – and no icon yet to click on for this option. Has it actually been launched yet?
You guys rock!!!
Helen McLean

I notice that James has card option on ?all of his images.Does this mean that he just somehow did a job lot on all his images.I have been just waiting for the option of cards and have many favourites that I want as cards for friends. There is not yet a card option on these images. Do I wait for the artist to indicate that they are happy to have their image sold as a card?
Neil Boucher
Yes you have to wait for the artist to tick the card option on all their pics. I just did all mine (RSI in the wrist now!) Check out here for example.

Yes, you have to tick the option on all your images … so much clicking for me ! I promise we will think about allowing some kind of bulk update … but there is just so much exciting stuff to build !

robert murray
buy mine! buy mine! and I will buy yours
Tamarama72
Thanks Red Bubble, but is there an option that you can increase mark up on a particular image just for the cards ? At the moment its a global mark up on all products
Cheryl Ridge
Terrific idea – I am waiting for some people to enable their images as cards so I can buy up.
I do have a question: it would seem the cards take on the same mark up as the other products whereas I would like my cards to have a different mark up. Does that mean I will have to load the images again but only tick the card option??
Simon Mammino
Great stuff Red Bubble custom greeting cards. I used a card website in the UK for years, you want to check it out and get a few ideas www.moonpig.com

This is great. Question…I’ve got a whole pile of harbour bridge photos that I’d like to upload as card images but don’t want to totally clog up my main portfolio with all of these small digital images … so should I register as a different redbubbler with a new id etc to just have a site for cards? Is this an OK thing to do?
David Burren
More product options is great, and I’ve gone through and enabled it on my images (oh for batch editing!).
But a query: how does a buyer search the site for cards? As far as I can see they have to search “Wall Art” and then check to see if the images are available in card format: not necessarily intuitive for buyers!
Adding the “card” tag to the relevant images seems to be the only way at the moment, but surely there’s a better way!
David Burren
Ooo, also it would be good to be able to set the mark-up %-age differently for cards. The only way to do that at the moment will be to have two copies of the image: a card-only version and a wall-art version.
ArtAfresh
Wonderful addition!!! Thank you.
Christine Wilson
wow!, I rushed home to day excited cos I knew cards were out today – fantastic, great job RB! i may need to upload some images again as some have been loaded with borders and only part of the borders are visible on the card. But thats a small problem easily fixed.
Stephen Colquitt
Great news guys. Thanks so much
Stephen Mitchell
Ok, the concept is great, the offer is good, but I’ve got to make sure of this : That’s $5 for ONE card?
Juilee Pryor
Hey Stephen have you looked at the price of cards in the shops lately. Mindboggling actually for often really ordinary cards. And $5 is about average nothing special really.
Elaine van Dyk
The cost of the cards depends on the artist’s markup from what I can make out. I see on some the card prices start at $5, some $6 and on others (including mine currently) it is $4. As JuileeP points out, you’d be hard-pressed to find good cards for less in the shops.
botanicfanatic
Thanks RedBubble :) Not everyone is enamored of handmade cards using recycled paper (I happily admit) so it’s great to have this additional option to offer my customers.
The markup is bugging me, so I’ll have to just increase my markup on everything until there’s a separate option. Apologies if that gives anyone a fright.
Having been selling my own handmade cards for a while, I know there’s a wide range of pricing expectations – from the $1 options at some florists and discount chains, to $6+ for a basic mass produced newsagency-purchased card. I think there’s some retail psychology at work – somehow people expect that a more personal product should be cheaper… still can’t explain that one, but maybe we’re used to personal being equated with markets? And markets being equated with cheap?
$5 for a card with unique images, bought from an artist you’re able to interact with, are a steal I reckon! And it’s always nice to have a ‘story’ to go along with a gift :) eg: “the artist said that this one…..”
Stephen Mitchell
We usually make our own cards – for every occasion!
1. In the early 1990’s, I squashed, swirled, dried and made a few hundred recycled-paper cards. I’m still using them for friends and family.
2. About 10 years ago we ‘acquired’ 2,000 x A5 200gsm cards. I have around 1,500 remaining.
So you can imagine my shock at hearing that a card is retailed at $5.00!
BUT I’ve observed that the cost for me to buy a card with my own photograph on it is considerably lower. Even my wife was impressed. Thus, I anticipate purchasing cards of my work later this year!
Photographs of the card in interesting poses soon to be shown in my portfolio
botanicfanatic
“Photographs of the card in interesting poses” :) That sounds good, Stephen – I’ll be sure to check them out!
botanicfanatic
I forgot to ask – what do the cards say on the back? Just the title and artist name? What’s the layout?
marieancolie
What a good idea !
Id one buy a card, it may buy the same in bigger size :)
Thank you REDBUBBLE !!
Lelia Thomas
Oh, this is awesome and just perfect! They look great! :)
