A new MyBubble Overview Page

Hello!

We’ve released a few things today – most importantly a new MyBubble overview page. This new page functions much the same as the old page – with a few enhancements.

Filters

The filters for configuring your ‘activity feed’ were previously on the left and side of the page – they have now been moved under an expandable link on the right hand side of the page (see image below). This gives us more real estate on the page to display other interesting things. Like group news, forum subscriptions and the latest RedBubble news.

Group news

Group news is a replacement for group BubbleMail. About 75% of all BubbleMails sent are related to groups – and we were finding that the volume of messages was overwhelming many people on the site. So we’ve created a dedicated mechanism for hosts to communicate with group members – the group news area which appears on the bottom right of the new page. We think it’s vitally important that hosts have the ability to communicate effectively with the members of their group(s) – so we’ll be watching this change closely to ensure that this channel of communicate remains open.

With the reduction in the volume of BubbleMails we’re also releasing a feature to automatically notify you via e-mail when you receive a BubbleMail. This feature can easily be turned off – but we think it’s useful for keeping the conversations on the site fresh and active.

Watching a Forum

We’ve always found it hard to keep up with all the discussions going on around the site – there is so much going in so many different places. So we’ve built functionality that makes it easier to keep track of what’s going on. You can now watch a forum topic. If you chose to watch a topic you will be notified via MyBubble of any new posts in that topic. This will be particularly useful for keeping track of those conversations that take place over days and weeks – where it’s easy to miss a post.

You can elect to watch a forum topic by clicking on the ‘watch this topic’ button at the bottom of all topics – you can also stop watching a topic at any time.

Navigating to a group

You can now navigate directly to your groups from the overview page – on the top right there’s a link called ‘My Groups’ that expands to list all of the groups your a member of – in alphabetical order.

There’s a few other minor changes with the page … but we’ll let you discover them yourself.

For those of your who are interested in learning more about what’s happening behind the scenes at RedBubble we’ve set up an account here to share more the behind the scenes action. As a sneak preview here’s some design work we’re doing at the moment for the new groups interface.

Well that’s about it for today – there lots of other stuff going on but I’ll save posting about it for another day.

Ciao,

Peter

    I like it Peter!
Kept trying to come back during the breif hiatus and opened a new page to this. Was shocked, but it is quite easy to navigate and I think even though you’ll probably get lots of negative responses, I like the changes and I think it will be better in the long run once we get used to it!
    Great job!

I preferred it when the feeds were organised into catagories, now they seem cluttered, random and harder to keep track of.

hate it…absolutely hate it….cant even use the bubble because it now causes my computer to go soooo slow … took 10 minute for all the image stuff to load alone…just made my life a little more miserable…..dont have a new computer, its rather dated, guess this is is fine for those with new computers, but, mine is all i have, wish we could have the option to choose the old or the new which ever is better … for me… wont be able to keep up with much now as it is so slow, i just cant wait that long for the page to load

  • RedBubble replied

The page shouldn’t be any slower to load … so I expect this is a transient problem.

I guess “techies” just can’t keep from screwing things up. If it’s simple and easy to use it’s no good, so lets see how we can make it more difficult and confusing. It’s too bad they don’t have rehab for that.

  • HeatherTS

    HeatherTS

im just wondering if the change has actually…changed anything aside from skewing the user friendliness of what used to be? is anything actually different other than the setup? is this somehow benefitting us in any way…just curious. i prefer the old set up. but hell, thats just me…

its cool yall have tried to keep things interesting…but sometimes its best to leave well enough alone.

I hope I will like it. To early to say. :)

  • Tara Lemana

    Tara Lemana

I like it, it’s good, my only gripe is that before, there was a “featured users” filter and a “featured work” filter, now there is only a “filtered users and work” filter so if you want to have a look at featured users you have to wade through pages and pages of featured work in between each couple of featured users. If we could have a separate filter for each of those two back I’d be happy! :)
Good job overall though, I think it’s an improvement – especially if it kills all those Bubblemails!!!!!!

Not to bad.. nice work you guys!

  • Mary Campbell

Thanks for the written notice this is very helpful.

I hate to say this but it’s not working on IE7. It appears to be not loading some of the options on the left. It say it’s loading but just hangs. Are you using different features like pop ups that a popup blocker could be effecting? or other things like ActiveX code or RSS feeds that the firewall could be blocking.

  • RedBubble replied

Mary – do you have cookies and java script enabled?

  • RiSH :

    RiSH :

Well, I have few feedback at the moment …
    1. Give a different colour to links (blue or red). Right now it is to be figured out whre to click by hovering the mouse. Also a different colour quickly catches the eye, like the title of an artwork or a name of a challenge.
    2. Give different icons for writing, journal entry, uploaded artwork, and t-shirt. Also give different icon for challenge launch (yellow centre), challenge open (green centre) and challenge end (red centre) ... so that we can visually identify quickly.
    3. Change the image (eg. Morning glory) with random images everytime the user loads my bubble page. This will give variety, as users will tend to explore various kinds of works.

Yes cookies, and java script was on. However, the firewalls blocks “mime integrated objects” unless you bypass it. It wasn’t just cookies or java scripts. To get it to work it took bypassing that. It’s not a transient problem but rather something most firewalls block. Why you need to use that is the question I have? are you sending encode or compressed picture? I think you’re going to have many people with this problem if they are using any of the standard firewalls. You shouldn’t have to bypass the firewall to get this page to work.

Why not set up a democratic system of votes so we, the community, can have a say on changes? Once again Redbubble is imposing change on it’s members without consultation! New system stinks – no point listing what’s wrong here because you are obviously not listening!

I wanna do a happy dance I wanna I wanna I wanna BUT
I went into the group page …. Oh dear
all the hosts who complained about pages of gallery pictures at 18 a page are going to MURDER you for having ONE a page now!!!
What happened to the gallery? To see a page of colour of different samples etc …. now they see our page in our gallery & sooooo much space wasted on the featured art & the reason why it was featured!
As a group host this will be horrible!!!

Also I still don’t like the almost FULL comment appearing in the notification box – what’s the point of checking the comment – & then replying it – if you can see it on the notification?

So Mr RB WHY did I spend a whole afternoon / evening in the dummy bubble if you didn’t listen to what we asked for? and why only one afternoon / evening? (especially at the quiet time of the bubble – when OS is asleep) why not a week?

OH NEVER MIND – it was a token of love towards us wasn’t it … the Clayton’s trial – the trial you have when you’re not really having a trial!
Go ahead RB Do whatever you want! After all it’s you’re site and we are mere players upon it!
Just don’t ask me to help you again tho! – it’s like a blind man reading a book aloud to a deaf man!
    Chookas!

  • RedBubble replied

We started the testing a week ago and made quite a few changes as a result (you must have come in late) – and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Most of the things asked for were in different parts of the site – parts that we’re not working on right now.

So with the groups it depends how you think about them. We think groups are first and foremost about people – not the work. We’re going to introduce the concept of curated galleries – and they will be all about the work.

Similar problem as Mary Campbell above. ‘Add work’. ‘Filter Activity feed’, ‘My Groups’ not working. The other links are working. Also ‘Watched Forum Topics’ and ‘Work you may have missed’ not loading, hanging. Cookies and Java are on. Using Mac OSX Safari. I do have Pop Ups blocked but that shouldn’t be a problem.

Whaddeyamean INTRODUCE the CONCEPT of curated galleries …. THAT’S WHAT WE HAD!!!!!!!!!!

and I was 3rd in yesterday when the call went out for the “Wider Group!” after the 20 last week
all I can see is you have swapped it over shuffled it about a bit and said TADA!
You cannot easily do anything we used to easily do!
    Comments on our work
replies to comments we have made
bypassing all the crud about what we did …. [cos we know we did it we did it!!!] & looking at what our watch list has been doing!

and you have NOT eliminated Group Mail! [well not yet!]

I’m scared to look further coz if I find stuff ups all over the place I shall just scream!

and you only listen to overwhelming positive comments I have noticed you ignore the majority of other kind!

    gggggggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!
Don’t talk to me for a few days I may bite!

    {Taking deep breaths now!!!}

    Sorry!
You replied my last comment thank you & the comment after that was made before I saw you’d replied me
I just think it may be tooo much too quick and even though I had a lot of fun in the dummy bubble yesterday there were things it showed up that need to be addressed
I cant help feeling that instead of you the mechanic finding & fixing the clunk in the motor you gave the car a new paint job!

I like the old bubble …. it will take a week to decide about this one …. not just one afternoon

Gotta say one thing more … at least it livened up the place – it seemed to have been dead for a while there!

I have never wished for Chookas more!

I hate it with a passion….....ALL THAT BLOODY WHITE….......and for what I can see you have removed certain items in the filter.
To me it looks more like a commercial that is intent on bombarding your minds eye.
As for items like “Work you may have missed” I would rather not have it shoved in my face…....If I want to browse then I will at my leisure

    Very nice the new MyBubble…

The *new group interface: I still think the works are the most important thing in the group you took off the works from the front page and replaced with comments…

I would like to see more focus in the works in the front page…it that possible?...

    Thanks

Unfortunatly I am not a fan it is way to busy it is hard to navigate, it takes longer to open up the page and it is harder to read, sorry guys, i also don’t like the fact that you have taken the page numbers away, again way to busy and way to much reading to do.

Re Groups I thought buyers went to the group to select something to buy – you go to a shop you look for the “Cereal section” to buy muesli you don’t go to the “Sanitarium section” & ferret through all their products! Yes to us groups are about people like in a market the vendors have a vested interest in the place …. but the customer doesn’t give a frig about how many other people like you they want a selection of product to choose from!
Or wont the customers be given the selection of departmentalizing our art for their convenience – bargain bin hunt through it at will!

I dunno why I care I’m a writer I have nothing to sell!

  • RedBubble replied

That’s not the way things are working now … and not the way we really want them to work down the track. I think groups are about people … and we’ll have curated galleries for the work.

The good thing about the old groups tab was that it gave you a snapshot of your groups and their most recent activity. It looks like you have to go to the group page now to see if there have been any changes?

it was easier to see past pages of my watchlist when they were numbered at the bottom of the page and i could go to any in my history. now i can’t seem to find how to do that. hope there’s still a way to. will search it better later. that’s really my only complaint is the difficulty i’m having to get to past pages of my watchlist, i was 17 pages behind (roughly 1 to 2 days) now i don’t know how to get there again.

You’ve obviously put a lot of thought into this so good on you for the continuous improvement ethos.
However, whilst it is great to see tweaks like this it is a little frustrating when major aggravations stay unchanged. For me this is the unbelievably cumbersome way to organise your artwork on RB – I’d trade tweaks like this any day for the ability (like I have on my on-line DVD site for my DVD queue) to simply put in a number next to the picture to say where I want it to be eg 1 for first display 20 for 20th display). The present “click on the arrow” system is absolutely Godawful for any image you want beyond the first page. I really would have thought this was more of a priority to fix as it goes to the heart of the way an artist’s work displays.
    PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE FIX THIS.

I think it’s a worthwhile improvment. Not a big feature improvment (but all features added are good ones) but a good framework for further development.

About the only thing I would change is either colour or underline the links in the activity feed – it helps give you a bit of linkage guidance.

seems pretty much as the older version and easier to access. what i definitely dont like is that with the older version if u clicked in one of the options ,say for instance wanted to view a pic or go to a challenge, with the older version using the back button used to take u where u where before, with this one you go to the very first page. it is quite frustrating go through all the pages again to get to the point where u ve been before the click!!!! hope administrators will look into this. thank u for the fantastic job of keeping redbubble up for us xxx

The groups aren’t in alphebetical order. Some groups seem to be and some aren’t so if you think it is supose to be doing this it isn’t. It looks like the order you joined them for some and alphebetical for others. Perhaps this is a problem that needs to be looked at.

it might be neat to have a ‘reply’ button on each comment shown on the my bubble page, that would take you to the work’s own page where the comment is, and open the reply box for you to type into … or just open the reply box inline on the my bubble page …

Oh my goodness! I’m seriously bewildered here! I keep clicking on my own profile page, and that of others, just to be able to feel at home again.
We’re all such busy people. We spend so much time as it is, working on our photos, art, and writings, commenting and responding to comments, that by the end of our sessions here, our eyes are tired. NOW, when you open your My Bubble page, it’s so darned difficult to quickly scan from what requires our immediate attention, to a new image we immediately want to view in full, without having to read through so many notifications, because it so difficult to differentiate one thing from the other. MORE reading than I can cope with to be honest. Drifting further and further away from user friendliness!!

Multi-emails bombarding us, was never an issue for me, personally! I’d much prefer to know what’s going on within my selected groups than not, but if that was a contentious issue for so many, could you not have simply separated the emails somehow into personal, and group emails?

I’m not at all convinced that these changes are for the best. To me it never was broken or stale. It was a delightful, easy, and very personalized format prior.

Just one suggestion I would like to make though, that may make some of us feel a little less disorientated. Is it possible to reverse the (My Bubble) page format? Notifications on the right, which is where the eye always goes first, and all of the other stuff on the left? :-/

Her is the list I copied what showed up when I expanded the group list. Note some are and some aren’t in alphebetical order.. It is strange.
Could it be some of the group names have unprintable characters in them that is screwing up the order. Like quote marks? I also noted some are capitals and some aren’t which effects the order too. Perhaps asking people to name them in a standard way might fix this? But it’s a hodgepoge now.

    Ok doing a Pollyanna now
    I like ….

    On the right
☼ In the drop down activity feeds
    - Add Work needs a Calendar button too BUT I LIKE how you have defined what the 2 different written things are about – writing for creative pieces and Journals for “News and Notes”
    - I still don’t get the Filter Activity Feed – what is it supposed to do? BUT I LIKE the language you use – “Perfect keep these” & “Oops cancel” very human thank you!
    - In My Groups I miss the avatar pictures – easier identification BUT I LIKE the way you have separated the groups we host from the rest – Thank you !!
☼ The last three – The Sales History, Edit Public Profile & View Public Profile haven’t changed so thank you.

I LIKE the picture with a special message on it …. Such as the feed to this feedback journal entry
Good exposure for artists too …. What messages will be here?

☼ Group News will be good when the Group Page coincides I guess and I LIKE the resolution of no longer needing Gmail Floods mixed up with normal bmail

☼ Forum thread Watching – if we are in many threads it will be a tad like watching the stock exchange …. But not as colourful! BUT I LOVE IT!!! It is BRILLIANT!!!!!! A fantastic idea THANK YOU

☼ Work you have Missed is only art and can duplicate too! I guess I can ignore it! BUT I LIKE how it jazzes up the page – it is pretty

    Left Side
☼ the activity action list is ok but it seems BIGGER? And the comments excerpt added are too long … defeats the purpose of going to look at the comment & defers the reply till later …. Maybe ….. I am not happy about the continual roll down of “see more activity” the numbered pages were better …. Or perhaps add in a return to the top button …. It seems a long way to scroll back up after 6 or 7 additions. BUT I LIKE the green bubbles! & how it reminds me of the Community Activity Page that I surf when I’m bored!

I hope that helps everyone ….... anyone …. someone??

    Ref: Comment from Russell ^^
I did Russell, prior to commenting. I only have New Work and Comments showing, which now means I have to go hunting for the rest, which is disappointing. Could it be the typeface? Perhaps the fact that the artist’s name isn’t bold enough, and is preceeded with the words, New Work which to my way of thinking, is superfluous!
I don’t know Russell! Give me a day or two and maybe I’ll warm to it a little more. There surely is a lot of white space on that page though! Cheers kind sir, and thank you for taking the time!

I did the trial (for a couple of hours) I didnt mind it.. But I HATE the “Work you may have missed”... Why? Because I feel that it is forcing the art on to you – and who choses these images?? I had one appear that I didnt particularly like – the person is not on my watchlist – and I think this is a big mistake. In the past if we didnt like certain “Views” or political stance, heck you could even throw religion in there… Now we do not have a choice the work is put there in front of us.. I do not agree with this at all… Maybe Im alone on this – but Im speaking my mind none-the-less…

BOOM Diggidy! You know how much I love griping about all the things you RedBubble power-people do wrong (mostly out of unabashed jealousy), but I have to say I am finally proud of you guys. The new overview page rocks! And here I thought I was paying you all for nothing… oh, right… so, actually, double that thanks and put it on rocks! You’re kicking ass right now free of charge. ;)

    Aloha!

I love many of the wonderful improvements, in particular the alphabetical listing of groups, at last!! Yay!
I have been wishing for that for so long! That is one of the most long awaited and helpful improvements to date.

The expanding My Groups list is good. The formatting is so much better and I love the much needed changes to the bubblemail with a dedicated field for the group mailing, at least so far so good I should say.

The new overview page looks good and was such a surprise, although I could do without the ‘works you may have missed’. I truly hope you don’t make changes to our portfolio homepage as I like it just the way it is. The only thing I ask is for an option for a black background and to categorize our collections into albums. That would be very nice.

    Mahalo Peter!

It sounds like functionality has been improved….
but it’s a step away from the clean design simplicity I associate with Redbubble.

Kelly – the work is from people on your watchlist.
    Oh no its not…...
Also, what I dont like, is that you have to keep on reloading the page when you are looking at older work, comments etc.
At least with the old version you had page numbers or if you hit the back arrow it would take you to where you were before.
    But not now.
Go back say 10 hours, comment, hit the back arrow and it takes you to the front of the page you are looking at.
Can you please make that a priority in a fix.

Every morning I look at all the activity I’ve missed over the past twelve hours since I last checked. That seems to be harder to do now, because the ‘expand my view’ thing this only short term I can’t simply go ‘new image / look at / comment if I feel like / press back button / look at next image / etc’. I wonder whether there’s a way to scroll through (like a gallery) all the activity from my watchlist….

  • missmoneypenny

    missmoneypenny

Love this new overview page – so much easier to negotiate. The only slightly negative criticism I would add is that I can’t see straight away when an image has been commented on and favourited so it takes me longer to answer comments then go back to look and see if any have been favourited and leave separate thanks.
It also seems much faster now – though, that could just be my PC.

I think its an improvement. Its not perfect and there are more things that I’d like to see and some of the above requests are pretty worthwhile. However, I know that it would be impossible to please everyone , so I will work with this, embrace it and after a few weeks make a few suggestions if I feel really strongly about them.

  • Lenka

    Lenka

The new overview page looks nice and specially ‘watched forum topics’ is something I was waiting for :) but... I’ve noticed some changes that make life more difficult; to name some:

    - group news: under ‘Group News’ on my overview page, I can only see two notifications. Clicking on ‘Older’/’Newer’, I can only move through the list of news by two of them. Now, being a member of tens of groups (and I’m not the only one!), it will take me ages to check them all, and taking into account there is no dating visible, I’ll even wan’t know whether I’ve checked all of them (sometimes, there are similar to each other so I wan’t be sure whether I’ve read that one or not); if it stays as it is, I’ll probably stop to read them but then I’ll have no idea what happens in my groups. Too bad… I’d like to have the possibility to show the whole page of the group news (as it was with bmails), to go quickly through them. Also, group news’ URL (when you click on ‘more’) is something like ‘http://www.redbubble.com/nameofthegroup/notifications/xx’; is there any way to get all notifications from that group visible (some groups have frequent news)? Above, there stays only ‘overview art clothing writing people challenges forums activity’ but no ‘notifications’! Except of this, even after clicking on ‘Read more’ to get to the whole notification text, I still have no idea how old is the notification = no idea whether it’s still valid, how much time to enter something, to response etc. Magee was right with >>could you not have simply separated the emails somehow into personal, and group emails? This means, leaving the bmails as they were but with two subgroups for personal and group bmails?
    - ‘My Groups’ also doesn’t open on a new page, which makes it difficult to navigate to one particular group. Let’s say I want to check briefly on the group rules of three of my groups before adding a new work to them. Before, I could easily use ‘Find’ function of my browser to navigate to those groups on the ‘My Groups’ list, but it doesn’t work now because most of the groups’ list is not visible! Please make it open in its own tab/window as before to make the navigation easier (the same way as with ‘Sales history’).
    - Navigation through the default feed (‘>> Hey Lenka, checkout the new stuff!‘) became also quite frustrating. Think about the situation you were not online for a week (it happens to most of us, now and then, and is usual for many!), or you want to check again on something you know precisely was in the feed five days ago. Before, I could navigate through pages of ‘activity’ quickly, eventually skipping some pages by setting directly e.g. ‘page=5’ in the URL, but now, I have to click on ‘See more activity…’ below on the page repeatedly to create one endless page, adding just a few news each time!

It’s all good :o) My only negative comment would be when checking out new stuff in my overview and press ‘see more activity’, then comment on an image further down and back track, it automatically goes back to the most recent page which means I have to scroll down, press ‘see more activity’ to continue browsing.. I find this annoying and I’m finding my self not looking further which means I’m probably missing out on seeing more great work… Otherwise it’s all good,, just a little getting use to :o) B

it’s looking better. i would like to add the following – the groups, i think should have to have a topic. such as pretty in pink would be COLOR – then the title. because while alphabetical is nice (i would rather be able to change the order myself), by topic would be easier.

i’d still like to see the sales divided up more neatly.

and while i know you submit some of the stuff to google, i’d like to have overall control of it so i can submit it myself.

what a hell of a thing to wake up to first thing in the morning. my sleepy eyes went nutzo.
some things are ok, the work you might have missed needs to Go!! thats why we have the activity feed, also, clicking the “more” and the page getting longer is crazy, just put the simple page links back.
as far as groups being in alphabetical order, arrows to put them were we wanted them would have been much better. i now wil have to scroll all the way down to get to the groups i work with the most, so that is more of a hassle.
one of the hugest problems of this site from day one is the NAVIGATION!!! there isnt any even flow to any of it. i would think That is what you guys would work on the most. A site with poor navigation loses interest quickly.
i always appreciate you guys trying to do things to improve, but work on things that are most important. instead of making things alittle more complicated.
first work on smooth navigation, the tech’s have had over 2years to get that right.
the group feeds are a cool feature, and being able to subscribe to forums you’re interacting with is a good thing
showing the actual comment wastes space on the monitor, also noticed the person who left the comment isnt linked up anymore
and when you want input on new things, ask more then 10people, after all we are supposed to be a site over 100,000 people
sorry guys, but this should have been thought out just a tad bit more before releasing. especially with serious emphasis on the Navigation of pages.
ill have to look into all the changes when ive awaken and get in from work

I like it! My favourite new addition is the Work You May Have Missed. I’ve just discovered there’s the ‘older’ button beneath it and started clicking through and found some wonderful artists I’ve never seen before.

With the exception of the lack of page numbers at the bottom of the activity feed I REALLY like all the changes. I hope you’re able to get those pages numbers back though because like the others who’ve mentioned it, I too have been simply clicking where I left off before I went to bed, commenting and then hitting the back button work my way through all the activity.

It does look fantastic …..fresh and new and clearly a lot of work went into trying to accomodate all the suggestions that have come your way. It’s wonderful the way you do that on Redbubble!! Thank you! :-)

I absolutely hate things continually being tinkered with and don’t think this is an improvement. e.g I clicked on the Challenges link and scrolled down, having to go to the next page to find the two I was interested in. Having clicked on one to see the voting, I clicked the back button which took me back to the first page again so I had to scroll down and go to the next page before I found the next challenge I wanted. I don’t have time for this any more, it’s getting to be too time consuming for me whereas it used to be such a pleasure. Oh and I used to like getting the weekly email telling me of my activity – the new version isn’t worth bothering with at all.

one thing as a user who is logged onto RB for more than 12 hours a day, is that the new system on face value looks very good apart from:-

    a) also having replies in my comments box, personally I only need to see who has commented on my work and do not really care if people reply to my comments.

    A PROPOSITION PLEASE:-

on my profile page if I am viewing my profile and a particular picture is to have an edit button on that page which takes me straight to the editing page instead of having to back trawl through my bubble art etc, and especially if the art I am looking for is on page 20 or more of my portfolio. So an edit button is essential for me.

Also to have an edit button on any reply I have made so instead of deleting a comment i have made and then retyping I can quickly edit.

Thank you and I hope you take those 2 requests on board.

If you want to see more than one page of work, you have to click down, and when you come back, you have to go through the same thing again… hate that…. and over and over… I just don’t have the time it takes to do all the things… that are now in place..and some unnecessary….like “missed work”? Will never use it… And I want to see the comments that were made on my work, immediately, so I can know whom to reply to… This is enough to just stop all comments totally… and more…

It is way to busy also i

    One Proposal..
about editing.. needs to be a lot easier than it is now. editing a picture, with no search engine is just crazy.. why not have an edit mode right on the picture.. in the public view mode.. ???? .. where we, as the owner to the picture can edit easily from the public view? and also be able to add to groups from the public view as well.
to search for a picture to edit is just dumb!

My problem with this is that where you get and give comments on pictures …there are no numbers at the bottom of each page….so you can just go back to a certain page you ended at if you get behind. This way keeps sending you back to the 1st page after you comment or reply to someone. Then you have to go to “more acivity” and keep clicking till you find the page you left off at. I never mined getting a bubblemail about things. That was just how I knew what was going on. If people want to know what’s going on in a forum…all they had to do was go to the group and click on forum. I like the old way better. :)

I haven’t really explored the new look yet – I’m one of those who find change disconcerting unfortunately – but I do note that I am still getting group bubblemails within my mail – not on the main overview page. Will all group mails be diverted to this front page at some point? Accessing groups is clearly easier but catching and replying to comments does not seem to be – at least to me – though I’ll give it a go for a while and see if I can get used to it. I’m not opposed to progress – lol – I’m just sometimes very slow to catch up with it. I’ll hold off until the return button issue is resolved and see how I feel then.

I guess I have to get used to work with the new look, but there are already a few things:
I would like to see the Comments on my work and Replies on my comments seperated from each other.
I won’t miss the work you may have missed section, I can find it myself, thank you!
But what I miss is the Moderation of my work, here can I find that?

I prefer the old way but only because the new way doesn’t seem to work on my work computer. Will probably have to give up using red bubble as consequence which is a shame.

I tried it on both IE and firefox and it just doesn’t work. The filters link doesn’t expand so I cannot get to anything I used to look at. In IE it says there are errors on the page and in FF it just does nothing when you click the filters or groups link. Also over the last few days I’ve noticed that sometimes the css (or something) doesn’t load (especially for bubblemail) so the pages look very weirdly laid out.

My company is systematically blocking non work related sites and this was one that I could still log into and participate in, now that you guys have coded the pages up in this way guess I’ll have to look elsewhere.

Lot s of effort has gone into this and the appearance is more visually appealing.

I too prefer the old way. The new layout seems more complex, if you haven’t got much time. And the most important, ‘comments’ page, is tucked away.

But we’ll get used to it! Keeps the old brain ticking.

ok I’ll add my 2c. updates are cool. change is hard. when facebook changed its interface people were joining a “bring back the old interface” protest group in droves. now its the old interface.

you could maybe look to the facebook home page layout for some clues on making it better though. i think they’ve nailed it in terms of layout and style. it doesn’t seem busy, yet there’s heaps on the page. moreso than the bubble.

my immediate thoughts are that the 50/50 two column split is more difficult than a 60/40 or 70/30 split. the most used side (in this case, the friend feed) could take up more space with the incidental stuff taking a lesser role. anyway, like i said, 2 cents worth :)

keep it up, we do love ya xxx

OK, so we have a new look. Can’t say that I like it, and it will take a while to determine what, if any, improvements in functionality have actually come into play here. It will definitely take some getting used to but, hey, it’s happened, and I can only trust that the RB powers have only the best intentions.

THE ONE THING that I rejoice to see is the correction of a glaring grammatical error, in the new phrasing of “New work X by …” instead of (user name) added X ‘to their portfolio.” “Their” is plural and does not belong with a singular antecedent. THANK YOU, thank you, RedBubble for finally using proper English.

Like the new page and the new ides for Groups Interface. Any chance of a “My work in this group” section?

RedBubble replied about 2 hours ago

It’s already there in the design … see if you can find it.

Nope, can’t see what I was hoping to see. Can see “Groups that I have featured in”, but was hoping to be able to go a group page and see what works I have already entered. This has to be easier than going to the Edit page for a particular image and scrolling down the list of groups I belong to and seeing whether that image is in that group and then doing the same for other images. This might be easier if the list were in some kind of order (alpahbetical?), but I have never been able to understand the order

. . . WOW STOP, I’ve just checked it is now alphabetical, when did that change?

That’s abig improvement, but I would still like to see from each group’s page which images I have included.

    Err, sorry ish.

    cheers Steve

The work is not all from our watchlists ...the “work you may have missed” section.
Also…paging back to find the spot you left off on when commenting on peoples work
is VERY confusing. All we needed to do previously was click the arrow page back. Now? we must tread through tons of work we previously commented on, to find our spots again. Makes it extremely difficult for people to keep up…especially if they are gone a few days…let alone even a few hours.

With so many complaints on this vs. the likings to this…..........I am going to go with the idea someone had also posted about giving us the option of how we want our My Bubble formatted. People like choice, they don’t like being forced into something new. And I totally agree with the fact that with this new format, we are going to miss a lot, particularly if we are away from here for several hours. It will become just entirely too frustrating being shoved back to the beginning each time because we can’t use the back button to go where we left off anymore. And also, if this was to improve the look of RB, shouldn’t it be improved for the customers that visit the site instead of the members? I mean the customers are what makes RB money to begin with although I think the presentation to the outside viewers is very pleasant and I like that. It is easy for the viewers, but not for us now it seems lol.

Oh, and I do have one little issue, not a problem though, why on earth would RB change everything in the format of our setup for My Bubble after only having worked on it one single week? If it had been me, I would have spent at least a month working on a change this big. And besides, how does 20 opinions out of over 100,000 seem to make the final decision? Only 20??? Here is what RB said and I quote “We’ve been playing around with things on the staging server for a bit over a week with about 20 folks who volunteered to help review the earlier versions.”

  • Lorraine Parramore

    Lorraine Parra...

Overall I like the changes…..great to have the group I host right there, ease of accessing my groups, groups news separate, saves plowing through bmails, everything accessable I need. I find it user friendly, but I know people in general hate change! You’ll never please all the people all the time, but they’ll get used to it! Re: design someone earlier made a good point that instead of 50/50 split, a 60/40 or less, may be better.
One comment RB made I’d like to disagree with – ” We think groups are first and foremost about people, not the work”. This is perhaps what you’d like but I don’t think it is in reality. It does depend on the size of the group – a small group is more social and intimate and forums more used, but as co-host of a popular large group, the forums are neglected by members and it’s very much about submitting material and getting features. Folks are far more interested in entering challenges than discussing issues. So if you want groups to be more personal, then open up galleries…great idea by the way.
Can’t wait for the new groups pages….looks interesting.

  • Lorraine Parramore

    Lorraine Parra...

Oh almost forgot to add…....the ‘work you may have missed’......NO I haven’t , as it bears no relation to my favourites, or groups, or watchlist…...not interested in most of what appears to be random stuff, (chosen by who/what?). It’s why I find the RB home page boring! Sorry, a waste of my bubble space.

  • JenLand

    JenLand

I agree with Antonio Wall’s comment: more difficult to navigate around the pages! Now when I make a comment and hit the back button, it really takes you back…back to the first page. And what about the page number system? That was very helpful to me in staying caught up! Takes too much time to click back, then expand, then scroll through the ever growing line-up of activity to find where you left off, wash rinse repeat!!! Please bring back the page numbering!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

People generally dislike change, and my immediate reaction was to fall in with them. I haven’t played with the changes for long, but I can already see improvements. Separating group news from BM is a great idea. A simple, but wonderful improvement is the alphabetization of our groups. In general, I am happy. I do wish that some of the powerful features available on Flickr were available in RB, such as the sorting and grouping capabilities built into Flickr. Overall, good work. Thank you.

  • Tara Sheffer-Archie

  • Leslie Battjes

    Leslie Battjes

Okay, I read through most of this, but ran out of time, so I’m really sorry if I’m repeating. My main concern after getting over the initial shock is that I no longer have page numbers at the bottom of my activity feed…If I have to be away for a few days, I know that several pages will go by and I like to start at the first new activity since I was last here…I used to do this by clicking on a page number and then working my way bit-by-bit toward page one. That way, in theory, I didn’t miss so much.

Otherwise, I really like that the group bubblemails are gone…that feed is so much nicer. I also like being able to keep tabs on certain forum discussions…up until now, I had gotten so frustrated in trying to remember what group was talking about what and who had said what, that I quit participating. This will really help me keep track…thanks, I need all the help I can get! :)

Now, one thing I’d really like to see that I haven’t yet, is an option to delete things like you delete bubblemails…specifically, I’m talking about challenge info. I love going into the challenge events tab, but get frustrated seeing so many updates there, especially when Ihaven’t entered that particular challenge. I’d love an option that put all the challenge events in my groups up for me to see, and then let me click specific updates off once I’ve seen them. For instance, do I really need to see that Flowers launched a challenge, then opened a challenge, then closed a challenge, etc. ? Once it’s been closed, I don’t need to see the feed that says it was launched or opened…that just clutters things up and makes it harder to find new challenges. Does that make sense??

All in all, I really appreciate the efforts you take to improve this site! :)

Not so sure that I like it. I do like one thing about it though….the MY GROUPS part…I can go straight to the groups I host, and I like the alphabetical order groups as well. BUT I do not like the Work I’ve missed section…most of them are not even on my watchlist, and I do not like filtering through them. Also the Group News I do not like either. I’d prefer to get the bmails simply have to click the delete button on what I do not want to read. Why grip about it….just click delete. Now I have to “weed’ thru the ones I do not want to read, instead of deleting them.

As for the rest of the changes…to be honest I don’t have the time to even try to figure it out yet. I usually come on here long enough in the morning hrs to moderate the groups I am co-host/host of, and to see a few works, make a few comments, answer a few bmails, and then maybe upload a new work of my own. And that used to take me 20 mins maybe 30 at the most. Today I was just so confused I just did the moderation of groups. Now I have other things to get done….and I am hoping to get back on here and hopefully figure this NEW LOOK out.

  • Sheila Pasket

    Sheila Pasket

Don’t get me wrong….CHANGE IS GOOD but I think it was a little too much at one time this time around. We just are all so used to the easy, old way….and it’s so hard to get used to the new. In time maybe we’ll adjust.

  • AnitaInverarity

    AnitaInverarity

OK Now I’ve had a chance to look a bit more I like the group stuff and that. Alphabetical ordering GREAT.
But I totally agree to bring back the page numbering on feeds- ITS ACTUALLY A NIGHTMARE LIKE THIS AND PUTS ME RIGHT OFF COMMENTING ETC ON AS MUCH AS I USUALLY DO and I dont like the feeds being on the left, to me it feels the wrong way round, but it might feel better for left handed people ??
Saying that it might just be me needing to give it more time- but I always liked the fact the last layout was so immediate. Comments showing on the feeds, may speed up viewing replies, so I think I’ll come to appreciate it, but right now it feels like it just clutters up the place. x

STOP CHANGING THINGS FOR THE SAKE OF IT!!!! Redbubble was fine before!!!! It just worked perfectly. First the Bubblemail nonsense which still doesn’t work, now this, which is also far to confusing. The new system is too complicated, confusing, unreliable and time-consuming. Compare it to ‘Flickrmail’ on www.flickr.com, (which is very similar to the old Bubblemail), and it is obvious which is the more effective system. Flickrmail wins hands down every time. I simply cannot afford to spend this much time and energy trying to communicate with other users and deleting previous correspondence. ONE more pointless change which doesn’t work and I am leaving Redbubble and selling my work elsewhere.

NO! I don’t like it! It takes longer to browse. Not so easy to read quickly. When you check-out shots that people have favourited, you cannot easily get back to where you were! I can’t see how to check ‘my featured work’ or ‘challenges’ etc. as easily.

  • Laurie Search

I usually love going through the “activity” listings; I love seeing the new work that people on my watchlist have posted, and also what work they have favorited, as I quite often love the same work they do. BUT…trying to do that today was incredibly tedious and difficult. Now, when I click on a piece of art, and then hit the back button, to get back to the place I was previously at on the activity listings, I get shot all the way back to the first page, and have to scroll down and keep hitting “show more activity” (I’m not sure if those are the exact words, but hopefully you know what I mean, lol…). What this does is it makes me not want to click on any of the links, because I don’t want to have to get sent all the way back to the beginning of the list. But then I’ll miss out on all the wonderful art. So I just have to deal with the frustration of continually having to get sent back to the first page, scrolling down, and hitting “show more activity”, again and again and again to get back to the spot I was at. Not fun at all. I also use the activity page to keep track of people who are kind enough to comment on or favorite my work. This new format makes it so much more difficult, and honestly, just really unpleasant. Sorry!!!! But that’s my opinion.

AAAAA++ in my book. I love change.
Kudos on the group news instead of group mailings.
As a host of a Christian based group, I have been suspended because of subversive elements in my group complaining about daily devotionals and stuff. My co hosts have been suspended for the same reason.
I hope this “news” feature will alleviate the fear some mods have of their members spitefully clicking the report mail button now.

After using the new page all morning and allowing myself to adjust to it… i have only two major concerns….
    1) i will probably interact less with groups i belong to …. before i could get a quick flash of what was currently happening when looking at my groups… now there is just a very sterile looking list
    2) “things” you may have missed is redundant…. if i look at my activity monitor i see what i have missed…. the new section often shows me exactly what is in my activity monitor….. and when it isn’t doing that it is showing me art and artists that i have already decided not to follow….. except when looking at my groups which is no longer a quick option

PETER A LITTLE ISSUE Peter, having test driven the trial page and loving it, there is an annoying part that has just come to light with myself and others. When you are commenting on your watchlists new work and have already pressed see more activity, every time you return to the list, it goes back to the original small list you started with. This is quite annoying if you have to keep extend the list sometimes several times and then scroll down the images to find where you were. Just an observation.

And for those who want to turn off the emails, go to edit your profile and untick the box, I found that one!

I’m with Squealia! Really really really don’t like it when I visit a work after opening all the stuff I need to catch up on and when I hit the back button it has closed everything up again. It’s fine if I look at RB once an hour but I have to sleep sometime. Now I have to look at everything without commenting or opening anything. Then I have to open each individual feed to go back and comment or look more closely. Please please bring back pages.

Otherwise things seem okay. Haven’t looked at my groups yet, though.

    Question?
you do some excellent work updating Redbubble.. but I always feel the websites are overlooked.. I often wonder, does anyone look at my website? Can we have a web counter so we can tell how often our personal site is being visited. If we could see how many people are looking at it, it would encourage us to keep it up to date more.. or is there a web counter and I’ve missed it. :-)

I love the new MyBubble, particularly that the actual comments show rather than just who commented. Also that the challenges show on the main page.

I agree that the websites are a little in the background. A counter would be great, yes please.

  • Sally P Moore

    Sally P Moore

I didn’t like it at first but its growing on me. There are some really good new features but I think it looks messier than the old page. I agree with one comment that it would be good to separate comments on my own work and replies to my comments about others. That’s a little confusing. Also I’d like to opt out of the forum section but that doesn’t appear to be an option. I also agree with Wendy JC about the work I may have missed, I would like that if it was my watchlist since I can opt out to have that in my feed so it would be nice in that section. But not random people who I am not watching.

Hi, I’m also the one I like the old format.
I know you guys are working very hard to improve your services even better, I wish I have a choice to keep the old way.

I was happy that you separated the group bubblemails from the others.
I found the group mail which my co-host said he’s sent but I didn’t received before.
    I opened and read it.
I clicked to another page, then I realised that that group news has gone FOREVER!!!
Most of the time, I delete after reading it but I wanted to keep that one!!!
We should be able to choose to delete or not.
Or you should make new “Group News” section on the group pages.

Please move the “Work you have missed”?

YES to your efforts to improve the site. NO to menus on the right, NO to comments and replies together, NO to ‘Work you may have missed’, NO to the new bmail (old mails first???).

I think you should focus your efforts on basic options that are completely missing, such as showing all works submited to a group on one page. No management of works by group is available now, so we need to browse the entire folio to look for a specific work or to leave and rejoin a group…

There’s plenty of feedback, and I’ve got some too – but is this the best mechanism for feedback?

Can the group hosts PLEASE be asked for feedback on the new group interface as you call it. I really prefer to promote a group of images – not just ONE as your prototype seems to show!!!!!!

Also not a big fan of the new my bubble – the text is too big, get rid of the clutter – the image with typing over it – don’t want it. same for work you may have missed – let me turn it off!!!!

Don’t get me started on the alpha ordering of groups – can you let us order these HOW WE WOULD LIKE to see them. Or at least let us order them in reverse too? Groups names starting with numbers or the letter A will always be at the top / in view… not very fair!!

Last one – put the “My Groups” button back on the top line of buttons – its a royal pain having to go INTO my bubble to get to my groups.

Change is good, but not when you feel so restricted – make it more flexible, give people the ability to tweak it!!!

A quick question, have people noticed that the amount of hits they are getting on there image has gone down, mine has gone down to a quarter of what it was, i am sure it is from the changes that has been brought on. When a person who is on my watch list adds a new work it is impossible to go back and look through the work that i have missed as there is no page gallery any more making it hard to book mark where you where at and also the page refreshes and does not take you to the mark where you left off

    Hi
well shocked first thing this am when logged on but have been hopping on and off during today.
I like the group list and great that hosts can go straight to their group, great for moderation.
May be my age but the images on the left of new work to small. i liked to see a good representation of the work before i clicked on a image made scanning new work quick. On some of the boxes now i cannot tell what it is.
As to the groups WELL done in alpahbeticail order apart from 1 or 2, but please can we have our Avatar images back, as people winning challenges got that privelege for the month, what can we give them now?
BUt a big bear bug PLEASE can i have number pages back on the reply and comments i spent so long trying to find where i was as had to do 3 feeds to get to my last place and every time i clicked BACkKi went TO THE FIRST PAGE AND TO THE TOP, AHHHHHH it drove me bonkers and stopped me looking throught the comments and new work.
page numbering meant i could see where i had last worked from and worked foreward clicking back and forards up the feed until i got to the fresh comments. With the new way i am going to miss were i am and what i have done.

So PLEASE may i ask for page numbers back and if when you have time a way i can delete the older pages.

But thank you for trying to make it easier and we have lots to learn keep up the great work.

sounds like you have those who like this and those who don’t …. just wanted to say what I think….. first I was shocked and then as I have gotten used to it … I love that I can keep my overview page on my watchlist and comments … I think this will save time and effort to see my watchlists new work ! I think it is great ! Yes, change is always hard but I like it… I of course there will be a few wrinkles to iron out. Just wanted to say I like the change !

  • Karen Cook

    Karen Cook

Most of the changes are GREAT :o) But I do have two complaints -

    (1) You can scroll through new work by continually clicking on “Show more activity” at the bottom of the page, but if you view an image then click “Back” it takes you right back to the front page again – argghhhhhhhh… this is a monumental pain in the bum. I can see myself giving up on this real easily!

    (2) I found it MUCH MUCH MUCH easier to view works in my Activity Monitor when page numbers were listed… this helped me to remember where I got up to and you could simply skip over a few pages if you wanted to. This format seems a bit messy and hard to keep track of.

But great work with the rest of the changes!

  • Janis Zroback

    Janis Zroback

I agree with Karen on this point….if you go to comment and then click back to do another, you are back at the front page, and have to scroll down and click on other work…by the time you have commented or looked at new works a few times, you’re going mad and want to give up…this is my only complaint so far…
I love that I can read replies and comments on my own work, right on the page…in fact everything else is great so far…

  • Keith Reesor

    Keith Reesor

I like to start where I last left off, so you have to hit the see more activity button at the bottom several times rather than just going to “page 5”, but if you comment on a work and hit the back button, you have to start all over again!! VERY FRUSTRATING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Keith Reesor

    Keith Reesor

The way around it is to open in new tab, make your comment, then close that tab and continue on until you want to see another new work and comment, open in new tab, etc!!

  • TickerGirl

    TickerGirl

The use of “see more activity” tab is very frustrating now… each time you click on a photo you are taken back to page one once you’re done and have to start all over again. Hope that can be fixed somehow?

  • solo75

    solo75

Now that I had a chance to play with it, I don’t see any real improvements but some annoyances…I second what TickerGirl wrote about…I prefer page numbers. Also “Work you may have missed”...what’s the purpose of this if it’s not on my Watchlist.

I noticed a few requests for a counter too

JMO,,I liked the old way from back when,,,I base that on I am finding I spend last time here more and more,,this was by far the best site on the net, My Bubble Page sems to cluttered now with stuff,,I applaude trying new things and trying to improve the site,,and I know when change happens you will have the likes and not likes,,but once again its a free site and membership is free,,,unless we sell work and then someone is making money off of our work which in a way kinda means we are paying something, especially if we sell alot of work, then we have kinda shelled in some coin in this, so maybe some options on our home page for customizing it some to our liking would help the artist some,,,just a thought,,still love RB but it is getting very frustrating as of late..not whinning..just being honest

The ‘Work you may have missed’ is coming from Your Watchlist, including images that people on your watchlist have favourited.

Also, we’re working on the issue of coming back to the activity list at the point you left off at.

As for showing your work in a group, in the groups mockup you’ll see if you click the ‘add work’ button, we’re intending on you being able to see what work you have in the group and what work you don’t have in the group. It’s till a mockup though, so don’t expect it to be exactly like that.

I have NEVER nor will I EVER watch someone who has only NUDE artwork in the list! So NO it’s not. Sorry!!! Just wanted to clarify! And I’m sorry but it should not be ones that others have favorited either. That should be for our watchlist ONLY. I would say that is just my opinion but it’s not it’s the opinion of alot of people!

I have to respond to an earlier statement made that you all think groups are about the people, not the work. Hello? There may be some groups that are social cliques but the vast majority of the groups I am in are about the work, and about very specific work. It’s certainly better than the first idea for it that was shown a couple of weeks ago, but I’d rather have the old one back.

I’m not having any problems using it, and I do like the my groups and ability to subscribe to forum threads, but the no page numbers for the activity list, full comments, work you may have missed and many of the things the others before me have complained about – too busy looking, etc – are the things I dislike about this new layout.

I don’t find it an improvement. There were some, yes, but couldn’t those have been added to the old version with a little work, rather than totally redoing the layout to this one?

The new one annoys me, and it looks like I have quite a bit of company above.

  • DragonFlyer

    DragonFlyer

While some parts are an improvement the issues that are driving me totally bananas with the new layout already are

    1) NO PAGE NOS – and if I click on something that happened 10 hrs ago while I was sleeping as I’m catching up, click ‘back’ – I go straight ‘back’ to the most recent stuff!!! My sanity is at risk here!!!!! Seriously!!!!!

    2) Far to many ‘words’ – if someone comments on my work and I want to reply – why do I need to see what they wrote twice???

    3) i much preferred the old ‘Hi Kallena’ at the top of my page. Nice, friendly greeting. The new ‘Hey Kallena – see what’s been happening’ makes me feel like I’m being yelled at… and I wouldn’t be looking at my page in the first place unless I already KNEW I wnted to ‘see what’s been happening’...

My other MAJOR FEARS are re the proposals for the ‘Groups’ pages!

Please please please leave the ARTWORK on the overview page for the groups!!!!!!!!!
Surely the ‘artwork’ is the whole point of this whole site??? Not just someone’s so-called subjective opinion re why 1 image out of the MANY submitted is ‘most worthy’?

And – who on earth is going to be qualified to ‘curate’ these ‘so-called galleries’ vs groups – as well as decide the inclusion and exclusion criteria for them? This idea is just asking for the set-up of even more elitist ‘friend cliques’ than there already are here.

Note – sorry if this just sounds like a complaint-fest, but I’d be writing pages if I was going to tell you in detail what I DO like as well…

Russel, I’m with Sheila 100%. I have people on my watchlist that do the most incredible work with landscapes & macro’s, which I absolutely love, but their choice of favourites is often risque work with flters. I really do not think that it is fair to subject us to someone elses choice especially when we may find them offensive.

    hello RB,
\well after going through this for a day I have to say it is easy to navigate BUT some people put favorite 50 images and thats all we will see for the longest, since we can only go back that far we will kind of miss the good stuff! Also to get a personal message /bmail is that gone? I can’t find it, I think thats kind of important to some of us. Other than that I like it.

and to all the people that use “You can’t please all the people, all of the time!!!” what a cop out
I used to tell people to come and check out the bubble because it was really easy to and heaps of fun that won’t be happening now
can anyone out there convince me why i shouldn’t leave the now broken bubble

This new one I need a road map for & a tutorial. BLAH!—Sorry, and no hard feelings, please! I adore you ALL! I am just sad It has changed, and yes, believe me, I AM adaptable to most things. Really! My bMail doesn’t work-can’t erase it or even work with it. Drat!-Sorry, again.--Bea :(

i think we’ve hit that old-facebook / new-facebook WALL where a new version has to have the same base functionality as the old (even if it is in a different place) or people will find fault with it because they can’t do with it what they were once able to.

the look and feel of the new overview page is very nice, but reading the above comments, it is missing some core functionality from the old L&F that a lot of bubblers found really useful.

if the new L&F is to stay, then fine. but the missing features need to come back or there may be a mini-revolt amongst some bubblers.

nb: the “you have bubble mail”(style) alert is not working – even when I refresh the page.

ps – I agree with the umpteen dozen comments above to the effect that the old bubble was easier and more feature-some than the new bubble.

but I DO LIKE the new bubble-mail with history, so don’t feel despondant – some of the recent changes have been BRILLIANT – especially that one, but … i guess we’re in early-stages, and these things, whilst show-stoppers in peoples minds at the moment will most likely get fixed toute suit by your web gurus.

    Regards

(always looking on the bright side)

What happened to the confirmation messages we used to get after submitting an image to a group? I liked that to make sure it was accepted or not, instead now there is nothing, making me second guess whether I actually clicked a blox to submit work to a group. I agree with others as well about it being too white and busy now, the ability to change the color of the background may be nice.

I don’t really care for the new look, it’s very busy.

I totally agree with Lenka about the Group News not being very functional and also Navigation being a problem.
If we don’t have group bubblemails anymore, then it would at least be helpful to store the Group News in the group so anyone can go to that group and see what’s going on, or if they forgot something previously mentioned then it would be easy to find and refer back to.

..great work guys esp. where groups are concerned- and certainly heading in the right direction……. please can we have a DELETE button for our own page… for group announcements or challenge launches, comments, etc… ANYTHING just to be able to optionally clear some of the clutter off our front page once read -

....and judging from the comments above, i think the ‘Work You Have Missed’ probably should be optional or at the very least some filter choice given to the user, as it seems to have upset a lot of people!!

I have been away for a few days and now trying to go back what used to be a few pages and leave comments on work was quite easy using the fwd and back buttons, now tthe new page just opens into a longer version and defaults back to the short page 1 when I click the back button meaning I have to expand the page again which is VERY time consuming! I will NOT be commenting on work I have missed unless I just happen to stumble upon it.

This problem will seriously effect the way I use Redbubble and I hope it is resolved soon. Unless there is an easier way of going back to view work of people on my watchlist which is a few days old.

Maybe it would be better to concentrate on Imagekind…

And WHERE O WHERE has my notification of my work accepted or rejected by a group gone?
I have already noticed that with the no page nos and the super long scrolling that always defaults back to the start that I am missing work I DO want to see – in spite of the irritating ‘work you may have missed’ pictures! I don’t want to be told I ‘might have missed something’ – I much prefer to either find it myself be accident or not miss it in the first place!

I find this MUCH LESS user-friendly and informative than the old overview page. More stuff I don’t need to see and lots less of what I do.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE review this again in light of the many comments you are getting – I so want my old ‘friendly’ bubble back – I’ll be left with nowhere else to go for that ‘community feel’ otherwise…..

  • jesika

My morning coffee used to be a gentle amble though comments on my work, replies to my comments and then a look at new work from my watch list. This was followed by a scroll through my groups. If a title or thumbnail caught my eye, I would look at the image, usually leave a comment and then view more of the artist’s work.
I have already abandoned viewing most of the groups. I don’t have time to click on each group individually.
I’m no Luddite but this was an unnecessary amount of change where refinement would have been better.
On a positive note, I’m happy not to have Group BM all the time and I turned off the email to tell me I had a BM!

You do great work rb, and I ususally love it, but I’m not keen on the new changes. some are good but two in particular I dont like. I used to love having my feeds grouped – I would view all the challenge things, then view all the group moderation things, and so on and end up with the treat of new work. I dont like having them displayed all together chronologically because I find it harder to keep track of my responses. also when I respond to a comment (or similar) and then hit return it takes me back to the first page of activity and I have to forward 5 or 6 or more times to get back to where I was. All in all much more time consuming. And since I dont normally get on here until 11 at night, that is annoying.I want to spend time on rb doing the things I want to do – not navigating!

Ok now… what about the group submission? Before I could see what group accepted my work now you skipped that thing or am I doing something wrong? I can see under my pictures what group it belongs to, but how about journals? There is nowhere on journal page where it belongs to. To check if it was accepted I have to go to each group separately and look in their written work if it’s there or not.

Just to clarify further down the page again -
The ‘Work you may have missed’ is coming from Your Watchlist, including images that people on your watchlist have favourited.

    NO IT’S NOT

    Did you see this:

    Sylvia Tax 1 day ago
Kelly wrote : I did the trial (for a couple of hours) I didnt mind it.. But I HATE the “Work you may have missed”… Why? Because I feel that it is forcing the art on to you – and who choses these images?? I had one appear that I didnt particularly like – the person is not on my watchlist – and I think this is a big mistake. In the past if we didnt like certain “Views” or political stance, heck you could even throw religion in there… Now we do not have a choice the work is put there in front of us.. I do not agree with this at all… Maybe Im alone on this – but Im speaking my mind none-the-less…
    Answer :
Kelly – the work is from people on your watchlist.

I don’t think this is correct because I have nobody on my watchlist !

  • Katherine Meyer

    Katherine Meyer

Ok this is a bit ridiculous-where is the “(said image) was accepted into (said group)-(or not accepted for that matter)??? I really want this back, I am part of many, many groups, and alot have limits on how many images you can add per day, so I go to check if an image was submitted to a group, and I am almost positive I clicked certain boxes to submit it to, but I have no idea if they were denied, and if so, for what reason, or if I never really clicked the box in the first place. If they were denied and I attempt to resubmit them because I think I may have forgotten to check the groups box, that will only serve to frustrate and irritate group hosts, wasting both my time, and theirs.
    BRING THIS BACK PLEASE.

Aside from that, please remove the “what you may have missed”—I agree with what most others are saying, I dont want it forced in my face, nor do I want my art forced in other peoples face who have me on their watchlist. As for the group mails all in one place on our front page, I find it rather irritating, even more so than the “new and improved” bubblemail. At least there I had some idea of how much I had to cycle through to see what I want. In my opinion, the change to bubblemail, you took a good thing, made it bad, and with this new page, have made the entire redbubble experience a little worse.
I understand many of us do not like change, myself being one of them. If it’s not broke don’t fix it. I also understand your need to keep Redbubble up to date and running smoothly in your eyes, might I suggest running a beta test and allowing us users who make you money to test your changes and give our opinions before you automatically implement changes so many of us find difficult to navigate and/or even tolerate?

  • DragonFlyer

    DragonFlyer

    OK – i’m back again too -
With the previous (annoying) group b-mails at least it was possible to immediately delete whatever was uninteresting. With the new ‘group news’ on the overview page I have found that this morning I returned to things that I had already ‘been’ to last night as just from the brief message in the overview I could not remember exactly what it was… and as the ‘message’ is still sitting there it creates the impression that it is new. What a waste of time and VERY frustrating…

And I have not had the time or flexibility in ‘navigating’ to browse a single group since this new page came up…
I appreciate your enormous work in attempting to keep this site ‘up to date’ and make it more ‘useable’ – but in this case the changes are making me feel increasingly isolated from the site as a whole and limited to the extent of the ‘watchlist’ network I have built up to date and the level of activity in that ‘watchlist’ at any given time while before I experienced RB as a ‘boundless’ worldwide community that I could easily access and feel a part of.

I am experiencing an enormous feeling of loss – and that cannot be good.

Ok, after reading the comments about where the group submissions have gone, someone mentioned RB toolbar.. Ummm….. I’d like to ask.. What toolbar do we have to install to get the group submissions feed? And do we really HAVE to download that toolbar in order to see that specific feed? I hope not! I was holding off to give myself time to get used to it and give it a go – I am all for change where needed. Unfortunately the more I use it the more I hate it.
    1. The fact that you are always taken back to step one is just unbearable.
    2. Valuable page real estate is taken up by things that could be left where they were… view profile, edit profile, sales history.
    3. The “work you may have missed” should be removable, or at least collapsible
    4. Group news is now more difficult to use because you have to scroll… have an indicator for new unread and have it out of the way separate to but in a similar fashion as the bubblemail

I do like the way My Groups and filter activity feed can be collapsed.

Hi Kelly, here’s how to fix Zinging of Bmails. If someone hasn’t told you already, you should be able to go into your account and change the option to get an email for each bubblemail you get (under edit profile – uncheck the box for notification of member bubblemails). I just did it myself.

I still hate this new setup! Much more time consuming and confusing! The paging back and forth is ridiculous, and not knowing if your images submitted are accepted or rejected in a group is terrible! Makes me not even want to visit RB anymore. Argh…

Hi RB, now you know I luv ya, but this change, is crap hehe sorry but it is, it look pretty but you have made commenting to all really hard to do, normally when someones art comes up, a person comments on it and once it is sent you can go back to where they were no matter what page they were on, for example, if i am away for a few days i could get over 30 pages to get through, now when i comment it goes back to the beginning and then i have to scroll through lots of pages, this takes time and quite frankly its boring, i also dont like to see what someone has said to me until i open it up, i feel it could make a lot of people not bother going into that persons page, you have no number of pages showing, so when i go back a scroll through i cannot remember where i was, you have made it tedious to do, it has made me wonder if you have forgotton what it is like to have to look and reply to all, so sorry that i dont like this change, dawnx

I think I am liking this all except for the Group Bmails. I do not like how we are getting those now because first of all, there is no link at the top of the bmail now to get to the group EASILY. And when the person does not include any links in it, I’m sure people are going to miss challenges and other things if it is not on the bmail. At least I know I will be missing more challenges. :( I just wish there was a link within the bmail to the group is all. A lot of people do not put links in their bmails so this always was a help to have it there. I am also not sure about not being able to delete them and holding on to the ones you want to hold on to. I used to hold on to bmails from different groups that showed UP COMING challenges or events that I have to remember. Any suggestions for how we can save or delete them?

Otherwise, now that I’ve played with it a bit, I think I really like this overview we have now. I think once we all get used to it we will think it is the best thing going..lol Or until they change it again..lol

one problem…not sure if it is a bug or it was overlooked, but the “group moderation of my work” option is missing in the feeds. How else is someone to find out if/why there work was rejected from a group? If that option was removed…then rejecting work from a group with a reason is useless…

  • Michael Fotheringham

    Michael Fother...

I wanted to give this some time before commenting. I thought I’d get used to it. Instead, I’m getting more frustrated the longer I use the new interface.

Work you may have missed. I didn’t miss it, I don’t want it. Six photos in a style I don’t like by a member I have no link to. Add me to the chorus asking to remove it or collapse it or at least make it optional.

Group moderation of my work A useful feature – Gone? Hidden? Broken?

Featured work and featured users Used to be two things. Now one thing. Should be two. Please restore.

Group News. What have I read before? No way to mark as read, delete, etc. Replying is harder than it used to be.

A lot of simple features that took one click now take 2 or 3 or 4 clicks to get to. That’s making it harder to use the site.

The look of the page is more cluttered. I really don’t need to be told about work I might have missed. I really don’t need an advertisement slot for The City or whatever is next – much better to be able to see 3 pieces of group news.

I have found that my work being featured was not making it to my news feed – and is not in the history. I assume that was a bug, as it now is working again with no change at my end.

I used to be able to go straight to page 4 of the feed, now I have to click to extend again and again. If I was going to page 4 once, that’d be a nuisance. If I want to actually use the information on page 4, and look at the works, I have to do it every time, and it makes me want to not bother looking at anyone else’s work.

Actually, the new design overall makes it much harder to look at other people’s work, as every time I do I open myself to a repetitive sequence of clicks and expansions, whereas before it was easy.

Some of the other changes, like putting the groups into alphabetical order, are great and much needed. Overall though, the new interface makes RedBubble harder to use and harder to interact with other users.

Now it’s been a few days since the new RB has been in place so I’ve had a chance to fully explore it and what I have found (and so have many others by reading some of the above comments) is that once we go in to look at work and then want to back-track, it takes us back to the first page. Because of this, I no longer go in look and comment, especially when I know I’m looking at work more than a page away as it’s too much of a hassle to start again on the 1st page each time..it’s very frustrating.. Otherwise, change is good,, but definitely not this one.

I can’t say I like it. I don’t think it’s necessary to see what your Watchlist favourited. I t takes too long to go through it to see any of their new work, and at the risk of sounding selfish, it also takes too long to go through all those favouritings to see who might’ve favourited my work. That’s only to know who to thank. I’m still new and was getting used to the previous set up and it gets disposed of. I have to admit I preferred that one. To me it was simpler and more user friendly. I agree with the last comment.

  • gaylene

Yes – seems good BUT (comments as above I agree with) and also there seems to be a wide empty space between laft and right of screen – which makes me have to scroll across to finish reading what is on the rights side of my computer screen. Is it just mine, or are other people noticing this too? Also, has there been a glitch of some sort in redbubble – (or maybe it is just my computer) but the images I load as extras on my uploaded pictures to view are altering – sometimes there are several of the one shot….very frustrating.

  • clarkey

Having had several days to use and get used to the new Activity Monitor, I’m in two minds about it, so, for what it’s worth, here’s my opinion:

I quite like having the info which is now on the right-hand side of the page on the RHS of the page.

What I don’t like is the left hand side of the page now:

Minor point, I know, but, it’s too close to the margin.

I really, really don’t need to know that I’ve replied to a comment, nor do I need to read what is said in either a comment on my work, a reply to my comment on someone else’s work before getting to the actual comment/reply, or what I said in a reply to a comment on my work – notice that someone has commented, Favourited, or replied is quite sufficient.

I’m afraid the way the listing of things operates now is terrible – I agree with averyone else – it is now much harder to move through the listing when you have to start at the beginning every time and that there are no actual pages anymore. It’s a big disincentive to looking at the work of those on your Watchlist who happened to have posted earlier than others and are, therefore, off the visible “front” page. Please, return the page system, and the Return to Starting Point when you hit the Back button in your browser.

Contrary to to many comments, I don’t mind the Work You Might Have Missed section, except that half of what is shown there is also in my Activity Monitor and some of the work which shows up in there appears twice!

The Who’s watching me? function had disappeared, I’m glad to see it’s back even though I don’t use it very often. The Watching a Forum feed is very handy – does it also apply to the Forums within Groups?

I love new things, and I know you can’t please everyone, but this one has a number of things which, judging by the comments above, need to be altered to make it a top-notch change. Most of the commenters seem to agree on the things which are unpopular, perhaps these are things you should consider before moving on to more “newness”.

  • Rachel Stickney

    Rachel Stickney

Cheri, there is a link to the group in the Group News. Click on the group name (under the subject title) and it will take you to the group – first it will show the group news that’s posted, but you are in the group so just click on the usual tabs to get to where you want to be. Too bad there is no category to save the group news in the group so we can refer back to it, as you said. I’m afraid I’m missing so many things this way.

There needs to be a way to view and save the Group News in each group so people can refer back to it or if they haven’t been to RB for a day or more, they can just go to each group and see what’s new if they want.

I hate this new overview – the only good thing is the groups being alphabetized!

  • Michael Fotheringham

    Michael Fother...

I appreciate the efforts of redbubble to improve the experience of it’s users.

I love that the groups are now alphabetically listed.
I love the changes made a few weeks ago to bubblemail.
I like the idea of being able to follow forum topics, and will no doubt make use of it.
I really want to love the new interface, but it just does not work. I find that many of that I want to do on the My Activity page are now much harder to do, or impossible. Some examples…

If a group host sends a message asking for assistance/information/opinions, and you want to reply:

    - Old interface: Click reply.

    - New interface: Click read more.
    Then click Overview.
Then scroll to the hosts on the lower right.
Then identify which one sent the message.
    Then click on their avatar.
Then click on send them a bmail.

If you want to keep a group message to respond later:
(eg a challenge you’ll need to load a new art work for / a call to help cohost a group you want to think over / etc)

-Old interface: Leave it, and delete messages you don’t want to go back to. Return any time to a finite list of messages you still need to respond to. No problem remembering which ones – it’s the ones you kept in your bmail.

    - New interface:
Leave it. Leave every other message you get (you have no choice). Scroll through them two by two trying to find the one you want, which is in no way marked or identified differently from every other message ever sent. Hope you find it. Hope you remember to try. Probably not participate in the challenge / respond to the call for additional hosts / etc.

You want to look at featured users in your groups and congratulate them:

-Old interface: Click featured users in your groups. Click on their avatars and leave a message. Click back, click on other users avaters and leave messages.

-New interface: Click Filter activity feed.
Then click featured users & work.
Then wade through lots of works and try to pick out users.
Click on avatars and leave messages.
Start at the beginning every time.

You want to know if your work has been accepted or rejected:

-Old interface: look at your feed.
or, if you’ve removed it from your default feed Click Group Moderation of your work.

-New interface: Click on your Art tab.
Then click/scroll your way to the specific artwork you’re interested in.
Then click Edit – note where it has been accepted or is still awaiting approval. Have no idea where it’s been rejected.
Then repeat submission to groups that don’t want it, increasing the workload for hosts and wasting everyone’s time.

I quite like the AJAX roll-down styles to the new interface, though like others I’ve noticed a slowing of page loads – as previously responded this is probably transient.

I’ll soon learn to ignore the banner ad slot (currently for The City, previously for this interface change – I hopefully won’t even notice the next edition).

I’ll try to learn to ignore stuff I might have missed, as it’s (so far) entirely stuff I have no connection to or interest in – though it sounds like it’s buggy if it’s delivering adult content to users who asked to have it filtered out. If it needs changing (and it really sounds like it does), please include the option to collapse/remove it.

New format is far too busy for my liking … prefer comments & replies as separate entries not grouped in together … also, how do we know whether our work has been accepted into a group or not now? It doesn’t show anywhere if work was accepted or rejected.

And who were the people you consulted with over this and for how long? Was it road-tested thoroughly by people who don’t drool over you? This is something you need to question. Be careful of those who go “atta boy”. Believe me, they will fawn till the cows come home.

The wonderful Doreen Phillips mailed me a way of finding Group submissions

you have to use this URL http://www.redbubble.com/mybubble/activity/submissions

and bingo it’s back, but all on it’s own !

and the distinction between accepted and not is impossible to find unless you really take your time looking for the word not

I hope this is going to be integrated into the feeds menu, but I would ask that when it is, this has the epanded style of comments, coz then it is easy to tell which is which, accepted, single line, not includes the reason message as of old,

I embrace change when it is a change for the better.

this is an art site. people who use it consider themselves artists. we just arent smart enough, nor do we care enough (judging by the previous comments) about tech upgrades or dowgradesa as it appears. other than this I think redbubble is one of the best sites on the net, but that is cuz of the people it attracts more so than wizz bang new implemented crap. cheers

Thanks for the link, Kriss, to the group submissions. That will work for me for now, but as you said – it needs to show the reason why images are rejected. I’m a host and I want members to know why their image is rejected and if they can fix it and resubmit.

Too true Darren, its all too easy to say positive comments and I believe a great deal of members dont want to tread on any toes. Hense RB stats (wherever they come from) might not be a true indication of membership happiness with the new system
I have seen a significant drop in views over the last few days (hopefully my images arnt just crap)
I just hope that RB realises buyers are members and members that are overwhelmed with the navigation of a page are likely to drop off real quick

Hey bubble crew. I like everything you do! Except the new overview page

I really tied to get used to the change before blabbing about my feelings.

Everything looks fine. However I miss a couple things from the past.

Now that our overview feed is one long column I find it very difficult to keep up with the activity. I truly miss having page numbers to refer to.

If I want to go view a piece from the feed when I go back to my feed I am thrown back to the top. I have to start all over again. I am a daily, avid user. It is nothing for me to have twenty plus pages to get through. Now I am afraid to venture out as it is a lot of time to get back to where I was.

Also, I only half like replies to comments being posted in the feed. If you get the reply in the feed there is no reason to revisit the work. This is going to have a major impact on the amount of views that people receive. I personally find myself roaming around a lot less because of the new format. I fear I will loose interest if it is not made easier to navigate through my overview page.

I absolutely applaud your constant efforts to streamlining the site. Out of all the other similar sites for artists, the bubble is the easiest to use and looks the best. I feel Redbubble will be the most popular, by far in the future. At this point I am exclusively yours.

Please keep up the great work…

By the way I tried to contact you directly and the page would not open.

Couldn’t read EVERY comment (way too many, not enough time) but I see several people have reported the same grievance I have.

Can you hear me?? “If I want to go view a piece from the feed , then go back to my feed, I am thrown back to the top. I have to start all over again.”

Please fix this. It is the ONLY thing I am asking you to change.

Thank you for getting rid of the group bubblemails. I dreaded logging in because of them. >_< I’ll be on more often now. (I guess I just could have deleted them, but I was haunted by the idea that one among them might be super-important.)

There are some of the changes that I can live with ,but is there any way to fix the fact that when I’m trying to go through the new photos that have posted it takes for ever because after each one you always end up back at the first page no matter how you try and do it . And then you have to go through every page once again just to get back to were you left off . This is so very time consuming !!!!!Please is there anyway to fix this ??? Thanks , Carla

i like redbubble a lot, but i don’t like the new overview page. it no longer belongs to me. i don’t feel at ‘home’ when i look at it, it is harder to see what i want to see and i don’t feel like interacting as much as i used to, which out of interest, would usually be a couple of times a day, each day.

it’s great that you guys are putting so much effort into creating an even better user experience, but in this case, it hasn’t hit the spot. it’s now a harder and less intuitive system, there is more click work needed, and hidden menus are just like big road blocks.

i’m sorry guys, i know only the best intentions went into this upgrade, but it is not a step forward.

    cheers.

  • RedBubble replied

We’ve just released an update that should mean less clicks (when you go back to a page it remembers how many pages you had loaded). The issue with hiding the filters is that they take up a lot of real-estate and they’re not used by everyone all the time. So we think we’ve struck a good compromise here … they’re one click away and then you have the same experience as before. Did you know that you can alway configure your default view to suit your preference?

I am really missing seeing what groups my work is accepted into. I find I now have to keep on going to the ‘edit work’ page and scroll down checking what boxes are ticked – or else to the ‘public view’ page to see the list of what groups the work is in.
Also – I am experiencing EXTREMELY SLOW loading this week… and have even had ‘nothing happen’ – only to then get the message that the ‘server has unexpectedly quit’... I guess you are a bit ‘overloaded with all the changes’?

I mentioned this last time, and I’ll mention it again. Indicating what my Watchlist is favouriting is immaterial to me and just takes up space and creates more searching for what I’m interested in…my Watchlist’s new work, who favourited any of my work, so I can thank them and image acceptances into groups. This was so much easier with the previous set up and wish it was returned. As it is now, if I miss a day or 2 of checking, it’s a lost cause trying to find what I’m interested in. Either please return to the old format, or dispose favouritings of others by Watchlist members, or at least have an option. Cordially, Ron

Scratch that last comment. I just figured it out….but I’m still not fussy on the new overview. I don’t think it’s necessary to inform me I left a comment on my own image, when in reality, it’s a thank you to the person that DID leave a compliment. Don’t see much point for that. Okay, now I’m done.

Well was a bit stressed when I came back to find the site change after I’d just got use to using it how it was . Finelly after a few tries I’ve figured out where you put things . Then I, after doing it myself, find this page that explained it all so thanks for the information and I do like it better this way anyway .Well done. Naomi
