Can you Spot the Picasso? Take the RedBubble Quiz.
We’re testing a simple four-question quiz that’s quick and quite fun. Consider this a “beta” or trial run that’s good enough to share.
What is the Quiz? You’ll see 16 artworks – 12 from artists on RedBubble and four Picasso artworks. Challenge yourself to correctly identify the four Picasso works. Then pass along the Quiz to friends, family and others that enjoy art or puzzles.
Let’s show the world that the artwork on RedBubble is indistinguishable from some of the well-known masterworks. Plus, the quiz is a simple way to introduce people to your artwork and RedBubble.com.
If you have an idea for the next quiz – a theme or artist or another suggestion – note your thoughts in this forum. We appreciate the feedback.
If the Quiz format is popular, we’ll make more of them.

OH HOW FUN!!!!!!!!! LoL… :))
lightsmith
Nope. Got all four wrong!
I’m not sure if that’s a compliment to my fellow redbubblers or not….
Victoria DeMore
I liked it! Guess I need to brush up on my art history lol! Keep ‘em coming!
Dana DiPasquale
well, considering the titles are visible, it was not that hard to figure out
John Conway
4 out 4 :)
Tracy Wallace
What a cute bit of fun. Look forward to more
Kelly J
Well I only got 2 out 4!!!! hahahaha… well done! I had trouble at the end with forwarding it on.. can someone please explain how to do it>. Said my email address is unsupported?? It’s something I want to share :)
Rosalie Dale IPA
Sheesh I got one out of four – back to the drawing board, and congrats redbubblers on your artistry!!!! Excellent idea guys.
Sharon Hammond
Well I’m hopeless – 2/4…Jonno’s a showoff
Natalie Perkins
ha, that is such a cool idea!
I got three out of four right.
AngelPhotozzz
Got three right lol love that game was fun!!!!! lol
AnitaInverarity
Cool- I got 3 xxxx
mobii
Haaaa. I got 3 out of 4. Who knew those art history classes would ever come in handy. That was fun. Can you guys do the same with other famous artists someday?
RedBubble replied
Answer is definately yes. We would be having a few people in the community to suggest themes and images. First place to start would be to go to this forum
Peter Redmond
3 out 0f 4… I’m happy with that :-)
Rebecca Bryson
I got 2 out of four lol
Terri Chandler
2 for 2…..I can live with that. Well done!
Jane Keats
3, not bad but boy are there some great artists here!!!
jumpy
haaa 1 out of 4, im an art class looser
braidy
hehe.. 4 out of 4… that was easy:))
& fun
Marion Cullen
Agree with Dana, wasn’t hard to figure out…nice idea though.
RedBubble replied
So how do you think you would go on picking an Ansel Adams?
blondiegirl
4 right and some very talented artists here at Red Bubble!
Kane Slater
I got 3 out of 4, but the quiz is very misleading. The second screen asks which one is Picasso but they are ALL portraits of Picasso, even if only one is a real self-portrait. And the one I chose wrong (the penis in the head thing) is definitely trying to be a copy of one of Picasso’s well-known works. Still a fun quiz, though.
RedBubble replied
Deliberately misleading or just tricky. We like to think of it as tricky!
Donna Adamski
Really cool…great work…Bravo! :)
ISMAIL ALAOUI ...
hahaha
got only 2
richardseah
3 out of 4 for me too. And the 4th one required three attempts :-( Cool and fun quiz
Sarah Moore
4 out of 4 i rock!!
Sande Elkins
Loved it…so much fun. I got 3 out of 4:)...I could have sworn that I had that first one right, lol
kittbagg
1 out of 4 not too bad I thought. Went back a few times (4 actually) until I could get them all right…..
Scott Robinson
3 of 4.. damn self-potrait!
Veronica Schultz
I only got one right…guess I should have paid more attention in art history! If I link to the first page, will people be able to do the quiz if they’re not RB members? A lot of people won’t open mail if it’s from a forward service like the one at the end of the quiz…but I’d really like to pass it on!
Ryan Cheney
ok. the premise here is pretty iffy once again. Picasso was trying something new to the art world at the time. (aside from Brach) Now everyone is just copying him. This doesn’t put them in his league it only proves that they have no ideas of their own. If we really wanted to show the world the talent of redbubble artists perhaps we should find the work on here that is not just biting someone elses’ old ideas… I am not trying to be overly critical I just don’t like the way these things always seem to be constructed on some ridiculous notion.
RedBubble replied
Ryan
Feel free to construct it on a different notion eg which work just sold for $100,000 or whatever. There is limitless opportunity to build it in differen ways.
Gareth Bowell
3 out of 4 …. 25% chance I’ll pay millions for something I can buy on Redbubble
Matt Mawson
got them all correct … what a smug bugger I am
RedBubble
Now, are you actually forwarding it to people. Is it worth doing that. Because if we all do that then RedBubble (ie you) will get in front of a lot of people.
Danny
proves I know fuck all about art
but I thought that was obvious
RedBubble replied
Not that obvious.
georgiegirl
1 out of 4, then 2 out of 4, but 3rd time lucky and I got 4 out of 4… apparently I’m one of 7 percent who get it right!! Of course they’re probably talking about 7pc getting it right the first time :D it was fun!
RedBubble replied
Georgie
its was definately first time round! But I like your persistence. Maybe your better with Ansel Adams (we need to build that quiz!)
cmsdesign
This is a fantastic idea! All my art history lectures are paying off!!!
Emma Wertheim
That was fun – 3 out of 4!!
SD Smart
4 from 4 – Picasso stands out as average in the present company. =)
earthairfire
I suck… 1/4 :)
Cathie Tranent
Split 50/50. The images need to load a bit faster .. the titles come up before the pictures appear!!
sendao
just 2 it`s ok!.............
Marion Cullen
Without titles? I’d be up for the Ansel challenge. :-)
retepk
I am hopeless . . . 0/4 (lol).
Cheers.
RedBubble replied
I think you will have to keep to the art and avoid the art historian career path!
Bernadette Burke
really great idea. i just sent the link to a bunch of work colleauges- great as one of those distracting forwards that everybody loves!
Ron Fitzgerald
Great Idea
As a marketer i see it as an excellent way to spread the word. The opportunity to have one of these quizes take of virally (if there is such a word) is just enormous.
” from little things big things grow”
Shanina Conway
Good fun…got three picasso’s and one bubbler tricked my eye;)
Susie Raine
I agree with Ryan above – when the artist deliberately copies another artist’s work, then of course it’s going to be hard to distinguish. One pic on the first page is a direct copy of his work called “Dream”
It isn’t just the case that they are “painting in the style of”. They are copying. If it was any other medium, they would be breaching copyright.
I got 3/4
RedBubble replied
Wondering what the border is between copying and being inspirted by? All artists are inspired by others (even Picasso). It is a worthwhile discussion which I hope the quiz fosters
Nancy Stafford
lol i got three out of four
Shakira Rivers
Cool! Got them all right!
RedBubble replied
I think we need to find you a different artist/angle to work on. How are you at picking Ansel Adams? Will launch that in due course.
Bernadette Burke
ps i got 3 out of 4, dammit!
Maureen Bloesch
I’m in the 7% category…
pene
i got 3/4 – it was fun and i would have forwarded it, but i think forwarding it would be harder than the quiz!!!
shanghaiwu
this is brilliant
PurePhotography
Haha i sucked, besides i dont know what he do.
Janis Zroback
I got 3 out of 4 and then went back and got the 4th right…it was good fun..
MaeBelle
I can’t believe I got 3 out of four, and I never took art in my life!just figured the wierd ons had to be his!!haha
KitKat72
I got 3 out of four
modernlifeform
I got all 4 right and easily I’m afraid, they do have a quality all of their own to anyone who has seriously studied art.
I also believe it slightly missing the point, as of course anyone can paint in the style of Picasso with some practice. His frame is in no small part due to the originality of his works, so imitating them does not quite have the same impact.
Cindirelli
Even with the names being visible, I got 2! Which I have to say is good for me since I did not study art. ~|}:)
mfortune
Wow! I remembered art history 101! Got 4 out of 4!
CateTownsend
Well he is my hero so I guess I had to get 4 out of 4
Andrew Makowi...
With a lot of cheating I eventually got four out of four.
emanon
back to the drawing board, I got 1 out of 4. mind you I don’t like Picasso’s work. Maybe you could do this again with another artist?
Danielle Bailey
2 out of 4 right here
Lara Luz
3 out of 4. Better than I expected.
Lori Walton
2 of 4 for me.
CarrieAnn
Got 4 out of 4, that was an interesting little challenge :) not a Picasso fan
Karl Denton
What funnnnnn!
MagnusAgren
4/4, some nice works shown though! :)
chelsgus
woohoo!!
4/4
gloat, gloat (fluke)
TheKoopaBros
I got all four. Me reading through all those ‘famous artists’ books in elementary school finally payed off. :)
Pilgrim
All those who got 4/4 will have to wait for the next quiz – to see how they go.
RiSH :
I like the quiz … I spotted three of them correct out of four except the second one … Nice … this type of quizes can be more … by redbubble or by groups / or individuals. Nice concept.
chasingsooz
Wow this was sooo cool.
From a marketing perspective – pure genius :-D
RiSH :
I got this on wrong for the first time … second time … it was 4/4
RonnieGinnever
interesting – I got 3 out of 4 the first time and 4 out of 4 the second time.
AngelArtiste
I got only one right =(
Ben Ryan
4 out 4. My High School art teacher’s methods are still paying dividends.
Lisa Weber
3 outta 4, i knew i screwed up but i hit the button too fast!...lol or well, that was fun, whats next?!
Helene Kippert
4/4 – my art history classes got me through
Amandalynn Jones
4/4 – Although, I have had an on-going romance with Picasso’s work since I was 14, and spent my last year at university studying his style and methods. There are qualities in his real work that are just… obvious if you’ve spent any time looking at his work.
It was fun though, and it’s fun to see some clever imitations. On the technical side, I like the quiz itself quite a lot, the layout is pleasant and it was fun to do. Well done!
MrJoop
Renoir next, please!!
Marilyn Brown
Yeah you included Leith O’Malleys work. One of my all time favourite painter’s on Redbubble. I must say the quiz is really quite hard because the copies for one are so excellent. I did get all of them right though! Picasso is such an excellent painter and more diverse then many people are aware of!
Alma Lee
I got 2 out of 2, and that is only because I watched a Matisse and Picasso special on Ovation TV this afternoon. What fun!
CLiPiCs
no cheating I got 3, now Im going back to see if I can get the one I missed LOL
sonjas
4 out of 4. I am in 7% of people. At least I am good in something.
Marilyn Brown
In the case of copying a masters work, painters have been doing this for centuries. It is an excellent method of gaining experience in the medium. You are only doing something illegal if you actually try to pass it off as the master.
Marion Chapman
3/4! That was good fun!!
Miriam Shilling
4/4 yay! although the first 2 I guesssed.

As for copying Picasso rather than creating your own original work, i am in 2 minds about this. Yes we should be striving for new means of expression BUT many brilliant post modern works copy other artworks and then alter them to express a new message or subvert the original meaning of the work.
Hell, Marcel Duchamp was one of the first to do it with this
Sam Fonte
i got 3 right! good fun : )
hybridmoments
I think the quiz is a cute idea:)
and I agree with Marilyn Brown on the topic of art imitation.
Damien Venditti
yay i got all four …. apparently only 7% get all four
do i win something for that ? : ))
georgieboy98
1 out of 4 the first time but I didn’t do so well the 2nd or 3rd times!! Peter
TigerFiSH
Cool! 3/4! But more arse than class I’m afraid.
1073

lol
Alexandra Felgate
Wow, that was so much fun! I only got 3 out of 4, but I’m pretty pleased with that!
clinton8002
i got them all right…..yeah!!!
Ben Herman
4/4, but hey I teach art :S
Pat Lucas
1/4 I don’t know my pic from my asso
Pilgrim
Now gang are you actually forwarding it onto people. That is the key!
kaneko
yay I got 4 out of 4! and I didn’t even think I was that familiar with Picasso. That was fun! I think I would have forwarded the quiz more if it had a braggable “I got 4 out of 4 on this, what can you do” kind of wording, if that makes sense. I plan to forward it though.
RedBubble replied
good idea, i have passed this along to the developers.
EOS20
Yay I got 4 out of 4! :D
DrawingDown
Great fun thanks redbubble, 4/4, but I teach art too.
debsphotos
Got 2

dangit….thought i could get 4 outa 4
poop!
Karin Taylor
i tried to forward to people Pilgrim, but my email (exemail/exetel) isn’t supported it says, so couldn’t import my list
RedBubble replied
the import only works with webbased email programs. We may add a manual system also.
leca
Can you suggest a good optomotrist…..I got 5 out of four. LOL
sticky
oh yeah 4 out of 4…........... that was fun !!!
Matt Penfold

Anne van Alkemade
very cooooool
Elysia Ranking
Oh yeah! I get em all right, boo ya :P Awesome quiz
AdamDonnelly
There’s a lot of 4 out 4’s making up 7%!?
RedBubble replied
7% was based on the people we trialled the test with. Will update as more data comes in. We may find people who get 4/4 are more likely to say so than others :-)
Albert Sellaman
I got them all right.
Jodi Coyle
I’m amazed I got 3 out 4, all guesses, had no idea.
Naomi Duff
1 out of 4 right . four tries later all correct. Got to learn some how might as well have fun doing it. great idea.
Lenka
I got two of them right, good enough for somebody (me!) who doesn’t like Picasso ;)
joak
i got nane oot o 4..i thought a picasso wis a french car though!
Vicki Isted
4 outta 4! .... i did learn summit in my fine art degree then!
EarthGipsy
0 / 4 for me….....Way To Go Wonderfully Talented RedBubble Artists!
Dan Elbourne
yes, well i am one of the 7 % though i think that this proves that i am a picasso geek more than anything else :)
Leith O'Malley
Four out of four here too and how cool for someone to think my painting was a Picasso!!!
I’m bubbling :)
Pilgrim
OK but are you forewarding it on to people. Anyway we will know soon enough
AngryGoldfish
Awesome quiz! maybe if it’s possible you should show the right answers and your answers?
Greg Francis
3 for me :)
Susan Brown
4 out of 4 not sure what that says about me. HOWEVER, the red bubblers work was really good. I’m sure it measures up to Picasso.
Schytso Designs
very cool idea…but loose the titles of the works when your playing and only show them afterwards, the titles are the give away.
Doug Wilkening
I took a different approach to the quiz. In each panel I picked the one that I thought was the best work of art, as if I were jurying contributions to an exhibit. I considered overall impression, composition and technique. I did not consider whether it “looked” like a Picasso or not, or even whether it was cubist or not. My only consideration was, what do I want in my show? I “got” two out of four. That is, my fantasy exhibit will include two Picassos and two Bubblers.
Viv King
4 right- the best I felt all week. Bring on more of these quizzes!
abigail st.hil...
i like this . can you make some more.
Faizan Qureshi
Oooh I thought I knew Picasso so well and I only really got 2 right.
Yay my picasso painting is in there too! =)
valzart
Woot! great fun sweetheARTz lol! ;} happy hippy hugglez
4Flexiway
I really enjoy the quiz, more pls!!
mingtees
i got all 4 right! Glad the $ spent for the education wasn’t totally wasted.
daftnation
well that was pretty easy… i guess picasso does have a unique style that nobody is able to throw out of balance… anyways it was fun, not a waste of time at all..
Barbara Glatzeder
Oh this is fun!!! darn, I got one wrong, too!
Bill Fehr
Yeah, I got them all right.
Sarah Grace
2 for 2 isn’t bad for someone who didn’t care for history in high school or college lol. I think I also should avoid the whole art historian career path, LOL.
nonarom
4 out of 4 – very interesting quiz! You could launch a similar challenge, entitled – let’s say – ” can you paint like….Monet? Dali?” etc. and the best work to be featured. Could be very educational.
Heather Rivet...
great idea
NatyRosado
3 out of 4 – that was fun!
Carisma
3/4 and I know zulch about art !! (but Picasso always intrigued me…..and I was not fooled by the piece that looked like “Guernica?”)
I am so chuffed with myself!!
noffi
Great idea…Keep it up. I went to the Picasso museum years ago…I think it was in Barcelona but I’m not sure anymore…Anyway, everything there was from his early days when he did traditional painting so i had a lup on guessing..Anyway, please do more. It’s a great idea!
Angela Pritchard
Got 3 of 4. Not too bad. Guess I learned something from that college course after all.
Carmen Cilliers
Yea – 4 out of 4! Now, PLEASE can you put more quizzes up – this was fun!
t0mt0m
HAH 4/4
I hadn’t seen most of those works before either. I think we should have a thing where people submit COPIES of his work, like to see how close people can replicate him. Or another artist probably.
RedBubble replied
This is a good idea. Will put it in the list.
Gayle Faucette...
3 out of 4 – that was fun!
Elf Evans
Four out of Four was a fine way to start this new feature.
Thomas Pettit
Picasso’s “Le Reve” is auctioned on Nov. 10, 1997, at Christie’s auction house in New York. Casino mogul Steve Wynn will keep and restore the painting, which he accidentally damaged shortly after he had agreed to sell it for a record $139 million.

• Red Bubble Quiz that includes this art by a Red Bubbler
Red Bubble does not provide links to the Red Bubble works so we can see who made the works they refer to. Also, if by ” the artwork on RedBubble is indistinguishable from some of the well-known masterworks “ they mean plagiarized works that’s hardly anything to be proud of.
Hopefully if Red Bubble provides further quizzes of this sort they will do their homework and furnish links for fairness’ sake.
artistTree
I enjoyed the quiz
- got all correct -and I thought some fine examples of his work were chosen. The RedBubble member works were good choices too though and I’d like to know more about them. You’re missing out on a great opportunity to promote member works and… despite what any TOS may state about fair use within the site it’s still pretty “red” to not give credit to those member artists whose pieces were used.Barnum
Three out of four, not bad since I last went to school over 30 years ago, and only scraped through my ‘O’ level History of Art.
More of these quizzes!
Marie Kazalia
I got 3 out of 4 but I knew the Gertrude Stein painting very well,—the 2 paintings of Marie Terese neither looked right so I just picked one and that is the one I got wrong
Michelle Barlo...
love it – now do the impressionist, ansel adams, monet, abstract – great idea
ridgididge
Never studied art history so I didn’t “know” any of the works. Got one out of four the first time. Tried again and got all four.
auntgrannie
I got three out of four, not too bad for someone who learned by self study. Never been to school for art but I love it.
Colleen Farrell
3/4 the first time, then 4/4 the 2nd time. I one I got incorrect was the copy of “La Reve.” I never went to art school. :) I didn’t see any titles, so that wasn’t a clue for me.
I would have liked to have sent this quiz to my friends, but I don’t have a webmail address. I just have a plain old regular email address, so I couldn’t send the quiz along. :( Guess I could cut and paste the web page URL but gee, that takes an extra 5 seconds or so. ;)
It would be fun to know which bubbler created which fake Picasso.
All in all, it was a fun quiz, and I hope to see more!!
