Art - what's the point?

Hello!

We’re thinking about updating the ‘show work’ page (below) and as we were discussing this page today we asked ourselves a couple of interesting questions.

- Why do we create art?
- Why do we like to look at art?

They’re such fundamental questions that I think we often overlook them. Here were some of our thoughts:

Why do we look at art?
- For a sense of beauty
- To be uplifted
- To help me see the world through the eyes of others
- To give me something to talk about so that I can connect with others
- To help me tell my own story by allowing me to identify with objects and messages that represent me

Why do we create art?
- Because it’s part of our nature. Just as the desire to share, communicate and connect are part of our nature. Humans are inherently creative … it’s one of our defining characteristics.

What do you think? Why do you create art and why do you look at the art of others?

Cheers,

Peter

I look at art because I appreciate creative imagery in many different forms. It is amazing what one’s mind can think, form, & create to share with others.

I create art to reflect my feelings, specifically in my writing of poetry. It is a form of therapy for me to ‘get it out.’

I also create art for others to see what I see & even because I’m curious about what others might see that I don’t.

RedBubble is a wonderful community of artists & I love supporting other artists as much as I love and appreciate receiving critiques and support.

There is no point to art because art encompasses all points. It is yin and yang.

I love to browse galleries I think we all need different visuals they send us soaring into happy places or make us stop… and think for a moment, at times I cna almost feel the pain the artist is wanting to convey to us or the elation and emotion when the tears prick my eyes sitting like little bubbles on a shelf waiting to fall, and I love to paint to feel the paint flow it takes on its own story, and the finished painting then awaits us for our response our answer.

I think this idea has merit Peter.

Here’s a suggestion. Keep the current show art page as normal but alter the ‘view large’ version. What if the page was setup to induce a kind of moment of reverence as the art is viewed at its biggest, this could happen by fading the background to black and removing all the superfluous info around the image, so that the image can stand alone without other distractions around it.

  • RedBubble replied

Great suggestion … we bounced this idea around today and it’s sitting really well with me. As is the idea of some sort of ‘slide show’ that would also focus on the art with no noise around the images.

I think when we share our work with other artists and photographers it starts with community, approval and acceptance. When comments rise to the level of touching someone on a personal level, whether due to beauty, narrative, or simple command of space, mutual communication is accomplished and its a great achievement. IMHO.

Why do i create? I have only re kindled my love of photography a few months ago, for years it had been over shadowed by responability and day to day living. But know for me it is a way for me to express myself, take 10 minutes to 2 hours out of a hetic stressed pressured life to feel passion, fun and the odd surprise when you up load something that is good.
It has given me a new focus another love, i see things around me so differently and how i wish i had my camera with me at times to capture that moment.
To see others wonderful work and be offered support and help from the community on here is wonderful, you see other work and think how did they do that i would like to go and try that.
In a world were the feel of a commuinty may be lacking on here you are welcomed with open arms and feel valued, listened to and supported.
Im glad i was encouraged to join by my partner who is a member of RB he said my photos we good enough, i cannot wait to have my time on the computer and look what has been created by others and what others have said about my work, as well as meeting and making new friends. : )

To satisfy that creative urge in myself, to try and make the world a more happy place and to be happy! And RB inspires creativity by creating this wonderful site that allows us all to showcase our selves and the amazing work that people so happily produce and share with us all!
Thanks for an awesome site and for keeping us all happy!!

I look at art for many different reasons, without art some of these reasons would most likely not exist. I look at Art because because it captivates me Emotionally, Spiritually, and Intellectually; I also look at Art because it Challenges me, challenge me to stretch my mind towards broader horizons, and it challenges me in ways that allow me to see some of the things that I take for granted. I look at Art because it speaks from a specific perspective yet transcends into so many different meanings. Few people see things the same way, though beauty is beauty and speaks for itself it is extremely interesting to see how others would Represent it, Capture it, or Convey it.
I am challenged by the question of “Why do I create Art?”
In the nature of Capturing Images with my Camera I do this for pure enjoyment, call it Therapeutic even. I also feel a sense of fulfillment in sharing what I have captured, seeing the warm smiles on someones face when they view an image I captured or watching their intrigue overcome them with wonder, I create Art because it is a release of expression that is an outlet in many different ways that keep me occupied with the positives of life, and the natural world around me.

to express ourselves in ways that words fail
to try to get the message out to as many people as possible in an instant; visual art is instant, words take time to absorb and interpret; although visual art may take time to interpret too, it is more likely to grab attention and get the ball rolling much faster.

To try to make sense of both the space around us and the space within. “Paint what you see within,” said Black Adder and yep, there’s quite a lot of Baldrick’s breakfast about, but also a lot of heart and soul – all equally valid within the terms of ‘art’.

All your suggested reasons are true for me however the greatest gain from viewing the art of others is the mental stimulation, making me think more deeply about concepts, subjects, beauty and humanity in general, in ways that would escape my attention within my insular little world. The redbubble artists and their art have inspired me.

I create my art for my own enjoyment and to fill a creative need. To put it out there for all to see or read is in many ways a brave leap, and brave leaps can be exhilarating an life changing. I share what I do because sharing opens up communication and it feels good, particularly in a nurturing environment. If anything I do brings a smile to someone else, it brings many smiles to me.

I remember a show I watched as a kid. It was an art exercise of sorts. Seven artists were asked to draw the same tree, at the same time, at basically the same view. When they each finished there were seven totally unique interpretations of what they saw. I was very impressed and think that is part of why I look at what others have created. To see what they see. Not so sure about why I create, it is something I have always had the desire to do. Even at a very young age I would get into trouble in class for drawing stick people instead of school work :)

Creating art has opened my eyes! Before I took it up seriously, I didn’t realise how much it would heighten my awareness of the world around me, the light and the shade, and the colours! It is as if I was blind! I see paintings everywhere and in every thing, and I am constantly thinking “how would I paint that?” I enjoy looking at other artist’s work to increase my knowledge and to see the world through their eyes. If we all painted the same object every single painting would be different. That is amazing and uplifting.

I can write a story that will have you smile, laugh, cry buckets and maybe even get so angry that you’ll tear it up, but I can’t draw that yet. I can’t photograph that yet.

I’m a story-teller, and what I want to do with art is tell a story with still images as well as I can tell it with words. And I’ll keep trying to tell those stories until you all can see them.

Art is the outward expression of all that is good and evil, joyous and gloomy, right and wrong, beautiful and ugly, sublime and ridiculous, saintly and profane. In short, art is the sum total of who “we” are manifested and represented through one for another or for all.

    What is art?

    Someone,
    for the love of God,
    Give me a definition.
    Standing in the Tate Modern,
I try, and fail, to take it all in.
    Sucking greedily, lustily, at
    art.

    Here is some canned shit.
    Human excrement, vacuum sealed
    In a Tin.
    Merda D’Artista.
    Kunsterscheisse from 1961
    Vintage shit.
    Artist shit.
The bodily waste of Piero Manzoni.
His father offered, “Your art is shit”
Manzoni, took him up on his offer.
    Is it art?
The cognoscenti, floating by, are revealed
    By their comments
    To have mixed opinion.
A pompous fop with chic attire and grande affect says,
“Man elevates the profane. He exalts the ordinary and the inevitable.”
A young man, born within the sound of Bow Bells,
    remarks to his love,
“What the fuck? I could have shit in a tin.”
    Is it art?
    It has people talking.
    Discourse. Intercourse. Disgust.
    Is it art?
    I say, yes.

    Here is a Picasso
    Seated Nude 1909-1910
    Femme Nue Assise
Austere, cubist. Not the least sensual.
It is as though we are looking at sections of a nude
    From all angles at once.
Like a dissected cadaver and yet
    The light.
Oh, the prismatic light that plays on her
Makes you want to look too long.
    Is it art?
    Oh, yes, yes.
Sotheby’s will tell you yes. A million times yes and then,
at the gavel’s clack, say a million and one.

I can’t look at a Picasso without thinking of
Gertrude Stein’s tribute to the man.
    Cubist in a different media.
Chopped and blocky phrases, twisting and turning each word until
we had crawled inside the belly of the beast and,
looking outward to a dozen mirrored moons,
    saw in.
And we revel in the delicious monotony of
    the marriage, divorce and reconciliation
    Of the parts of speech.
    Ah, Gertrude, is it art?
    Is it poetry?
    She
    And she
    And she and
    She
    And
    And she
    And Napoleon,
    Would would say, yes.
    I say, yes, yes, yes.

    LoriSmaltz

One of my favorite quotes from French Poet Charles-Pierre Baudelaire 1821-1867

Evil is done without effort, naturally, it is the working of fate; good is always the product of an art.

The reason I create is the same reason every living human being on this planet creates—anything.

People love to reproduce, they have the need to see themselves in things—from offspring to artistic creations. Everyone will look at art because of this need, some will deny their interest and some will build their collections. Human beings always want to fit in somewhere. Individuals want to identify themselves in their own artwork or find themselves in works created by others.

    Expression is the universal language.

I look at other artists’ works in awe, wondering— how did they do it? How did they come up with this idea? As I look at the work I wonder if I am capable, so I will either learn or strive to collect these things I am not capable of creating since they are so ingenious and beautiful.

I believe there is a golden piece of work for every artist—one they did not make themselves.

Why do i look at art? thats a good question! And I don’t know how to answer it…. It may have something to do with what each individuals tastes and interests are.

I go to art to find some beauty, or else to go into a bigger world than my own little world, and if I find one, usually I’ll find the other.

When I make art, it’s that I’m trying to find something more than what I know with my intellect, even or especially when I feel that I’m doing nothing better than thrashing around in the materials.

Sometime I’ll get this process down to a routine, in which case there will be lots of “pretty” and very little beauty, until the beauty starts showing up regularly. But I understand that this is how the process goes. It’s called “artwork” not “artplay.” We Make. And in the process of making, if it’s in good faith, we can touch on the transcendent. That’s what I’m looking for, in my own stuff and in other people’s stuff.

And one more thing. I think that the merely nice and the merely pretty is a gift from God too, bringing some joy to people who don’t have enough in their lives that is “nice” OR “pretty.” I remember the movie version of The Grapes of Wrath, when the home is being bulldozed, and the mother looks at her little momento from the Chicago Worlds Fair. I think that old people, poor people, abused people, and even rich and privileged people, need and deserve some nice things, pretty things, and if possible, beautiful things. And that we can make them.

And sometimes art has to trade off attractiveness with truth-telling. And people across the span of all people need and deserve to hear the truth told in ways they haven’t heard before. And we can make things that tell the truth.

Sometimes we tell more truth than give beauty, sometimes we make things more beautiful than revealing something true, but we ain’t in Heaven yet. We can do what we can, and try to stay in good faith while we can.

I totally second sjem’s comment …. in case it was too far up the thread …..

Here’s a suggestion. Keep the current show art page as normal but alter the ‘view large’ version. What if the page was setup to induce a kind of moment of reverence as the art is viewed at its biggest, this could happen by fading the background to black and removing all the superfluous info around the image, so that the image can stand alone without other distractions around it.

lately my non-arty friends hav been dissing art and say it has no meanin in the world n is basically a waste of time. of course i took their comments as a personal attack n fought back my bestest with more artworks , but i also proceded in saying exactly what i think art is and how it is so relevant to everybody’s lives…

i think art is an important part of humanity. it perserves the present reality in order for our life as we know it to be enjoyed into the future by ourselves and others. our history books would not be the same without art. feelings, behaviours and traditions would be lost without art, they would hav been forgotten along time ago.

i believe Art is a reflection of ourselves, our society and our world. it helps us express our selves, but also communicate with others.

for me, art is an escape. it is also a part of me i could never let go. i HAVE to do art. it is neccessary in my life. it lets me open my mind to the feelings within me and see the world around me clearer. it helps me comes to terms with reality, but at the same time, helps me capture my dreams.

art is a way of life. its not just about making things beautiful and meaningful, but also observing all things beauftiful and meaningful. its about not just seeing the trees, but enjoying the beauty of the trees. not just about hearing the cars fly by, but listening to the way the engines create an industrial symphony.

everything passionate is art. everything noticed is art. everything that provokes emotion is art.

everything in life can be art if you’re an artist.

Maybe we feel it brings us closer than just looking?

Why do we buy the DVD when we’ve seen the movie? See the movie, when we’ve read the book? I think we like to switch off everything else in our life for a moment to explore a different story for a moment, and then to pick up the story again to let it speak to a different part of our own narrative.

  • Mark Cosgriff

i feel the presence of art in human culture has very fundamental roots. the essence of art is communication.

all life that exists today has evolved from more primitive forms of life that came before. and these life forms survived and thrived, universally, by acting in commune. when individual organisms act in commune, they each benefit to a greater degree than either could have separately. this is, in fact, an explanation for why single celled organisms became multi-celled creatures…and why those creatures form schools, flocks, herds, etc. ...and why humanity values the family unit and formed clans…and eventually why we form communities, states, and nations. when we act in concert, we thrive to a greater degree than if we hadn’t.

however, on any level, no matter how basic, community requires communication (notice the root). communication in some form, is fundamental to life on earth. we must communicate with one another.

as we evolved, we have attained (1) the ability to manipulate the environment around us and (2) abstract perception. these two components, through our senses, have enable us to communicate in various art forms. before there was spoken language, there art. before there was written language there was art. in fact, written language is derived from artistic pictograms.

art is a form of communication. as such, we have evolved to need it…to desire it…to thrive upon it. we know deep down from long ago, that through art, “i” becomes “we”, and “we” will be better.

    Why do I make art?...

Art is like a drug… it allows you to escape the ugliness of the world for a little while, and roam a world of filled with beauty. It is much more effective, and a hell of a lot cheaper than a therapist.LOL. Also, art is an outlet, a way of releasing feelings that are bottled up within seeking an outlet to validate itself. It is a way to express these inner feelings when we are at a loss to express them in any other form. Ultimately, art is the expression of the soul of the artists that creates it.

    Why do I view art?

Art also lets us share the experiences of another’s path through life, as viewed in their own eyes. Often there is that spark of recognition in a shared experience or feeling that is reflected in an artwork. Viewing art is like a drug as well, as we are able to see things with our eyes that don’t ordinarily occur. This in turn fuels the imagination, the purest form of thought there is.

    Why do I create it:
It’s a form of communication that is less definite, less confining – but, that’s not why I create it, that’s what happens during and after it’s creation and why I look at the art of others- same thing as reading or chatting. It’s all a learning, a sharing, and that’s why I don’t like people who have nothing to say.

ahem Before anyone gets any ideas in their head, let me assure you that I have yet to meet a person with learning disabilities, or who was autistic and seeminly non-communicative, or who spoke a foreign language, or etc. who had nothing to say. No – it’s the Paris Hilton type, male or female, who I mean, most.

The reason why I create it, is simple. It’s there, it’s in me, and it will come out. I really have no choice in the matter, as to whether or not it will. If I stop paying attenton, it drips out my fingertips, thorugh a pen, and all over my tax papers – so to speak – so the only choice is not whether I will, but, if I will use a canvas, or a digital program, or art paper versus the back of an old envelope, and such as that.

Anyone who has a choice is not, I believe, an artist. They are a person who has a hobby of creating art pieces, or some-such as that. Anyoone who does not have a choice is an artist. Talent notwithstanding, in either case.

Wow, Peter – bet you’re sorry you asked :)
Just today I was musing at how stagnant my creative self has felt the last several days. Then I wondered, is this what those who don’t create feel all the time?
Stagnant feels empty to me, I don’t like it. So, I have to refuel, observe, get uncomfortable, and expand – so that I can create again.

    Here’s my two cents:
Art in all of its forms is connection – connection in a soulful way, not a talk radio way. And it is immortality – for the artist and his passion.

I search out art and I buy art because I like the connection I feel to that passion.

I create art to show the way i see things. Someone my just see a feather on the ground….But I will see the fineness of the flight feather…..the wispyness of the down….maybe the crushed hopes of a flightless bird …. ot the amazed look in a childs eyes as the touch a feather for the first time..
I look at Art to see if I can feel the same thing the Artist felt when they created their art.Do I see the same bit of beauty that they did….did it touch me the same way?.....does it inspire me to create as well?

I have my own personal beliefs about art and love that are kind of tied together… we couldn’t exist without beautiful things. We need something to give us a sense of purpose, and as long as we’re able to create something, we have what we want.

It’s an emotional thing, too, of course. I think that goes without saying by now.

What would be the point in life if nothing was beautiful, or if we didn’t appreciate the things that were? Simply put, it just makes sense to make art. It doesn’t make sense not to.

When I look at art, I am moved by expression and the outcome of someones design or free will. It can rise to the genius inside of human kind and deeply touch our emotions.
When I look at photography, I want to experience what I can’t see in life or might miss due to bonds of time and space. When a photographer has done their job or at their best, it may reveal a universe of things we may have never noticed or seen before or even capture an extraordinary event preserved and captured forever. It’s too bad people are overwhelmed with the struggle to survive from day to day that they don’t find the value in art and photography like we wish they could.

    Why Create Art?

The process of creation began when we moved from our Bi-Cameral mind-ness and became self aware – with self-awareness came creation. Our brain was now programmed to be logical (survival) and creative (thinking outside the box) – the outside the box thinking involved the spiritual nature of our being; beauty, awe and wonder filled our minds and our walls, paper tablets, canvas. We developed into self-aware creative individuals. The human species.

    Does your dog paint?
Does your cat play the piano (well)?
Do you goldfish build their own castles on the fish bowl floor?

We developed into a unique species. Thinking and Creativity are now the core of our being.

    Art is a Mystery.
The comment by ‘Muscular Teeth’ reminded me of a Salvador Dali comment “I’m going to live forever. Geniuses don’t die.”
For many artists that suffer one challenge or another, their art is the beauty in their life. As Pierre Auguste Renoir said in reference to his arthritic hands ” The pain passes, but the beauty remains.”
To me, Art is a Mystery.

We can’t even agree as to what art may be, never mind understand the creative motivation.
It’s partly a response to a creative urge which, I suspect, is rooted in a desire to produce something than will live longer than we do. There is also the primitive magical component expressed in cave art – if we depict something we then own it in some way.
I’m more writer than photographer and in that, I feel the absolute compulsion. Artistic work is not something you choose to do – you have no choice. It is compulsive. I tell people that you aren’t a writer unless you write something everyday – anything. Even an email can be a creative act. I am paid to write part of the time and while I try to write even prosaic assignments creatively, I treasure the times when the bills are paid and I can just free-write or develop a project. Thus with photography – you are not a photographic artist unless everyday you either conceive, plan or execute a photograph. It is what you are.

we need art because we as humans have emotions ~ emotions are what we really ‘run on’ like fuel… if there were no emotions, there would not be comment threads, disagreements… emotion makes the world into individuals who are then affected by an emtion to do – DO, art, books, create, design… even make us laugh!

To join the higher conscious, to reach out into the space that isn’t defined by rules, and laws and definition. Both through creation and through seeing we have the opportunity to experience without confinement, to breath deeply of the human soul and have it course through our very being.

I have joined a thousand minds, I have lived in a thousand lives, I have been party to the intimacy of an experience known specifically to one, but shared by all.

Creation is a God-given gift, but the real gift is in that it is not mine, but is for everyone, and I have the joy of sharing and experiencing others gifts too.

We create art because it is comprised of the things that make us who we are. (Existentialism)

And we enjoy art for those very reasons.

I like to show people you can be in the right place at the right time. It’s a good message to spread.

Art in general provides a window into the mind of its creator. I love seeing representations of a person’s imagination, seeing things never seen by another human being until they decided to show it to the world. Even in a media like photography, you’re still seeing a perspective with lines, shading and geometry unique to that perspective.

That is what makes art special, the choice to share and to actively engage in an intimate relationship with your viewers.

For education and stimulation. A good story is as good as image work. Although, there is a chance you learn so much more with a story as it can encompass a wider, more diverse blend of fact, fiction and emotional flavours within a handful of words rather than a singular view image art seem to have.

Image art is a good reminder, thought provoker and inspirational lighter. It can highlight aspects of humanity. Written works gets to the heart of it.

A fellow artist and dear friend of mine put it perfectly, and I quote him all the time on it. He said… “We do this art thing, or we burst into flames…” – Sam Raffa.

Also, I recently wrote something that goes along with this. A bit lengthy… but I think it harmonizes with your question. :)

During that bleak time in U.S. history known as The Great Depression, there was something called The Works Progress Administration, or the New Deal. In short, the government created an opportunity for artists, writers and musicians to put their collective muses to work in bolstering up the minds and hearts of people who had little inspiration left in their lives, while at the same time creating an opportunity for artists to put a little money back into their ragged pockets as well.

At the heart of the WPA was a need to capture the moment on film, in writing, on canvas, and in melody. To take what was happening, and document it in a way that served both as a historic record, and as a celebration to the determination and grit that kept people alive, and kept the tiny coals of hope aglow.

Even beyond the government sponsered program, artists of all kinds heard the call of need. Of desperation. People needed escape. They wanted something that could transport them in that dark hour, to a place where their mind’s could take flight…their hearts could mend, and they could forget the growling in their stomachs, and the tears that stained their children’s cheeks.

It was during this time, in 1939, that The Wizard of Oz came to the silver screen. With it’s opening of a black and white life for Dorothy in the dustbowl of Kansas, to the sudden sensory tsunami of color as she was whisked away to Oz… it was an epic journey that would make people’s hearts burst open with possibility, if only they would believe in it.

The message behind all of this is a poignant one. In a time when Big Business grinds to a hault, and the hands of hard working individuals wring in worry and despair… it is a rallying cry for artists everywhere. The gift that comes freely to us, of muse and creativity, can be the glimpse of color through sepia colored glasses. It can be the melody that lifts tear stained eyes, and helps them see the true nature of human spirit. It is the crazy cartoon that still makes children laugh, despite the worn threads of their clothes and the the worries that are beyond their years.

Art knows no limits. It does not need Wall Street to buy and sell it’s heart. It does not need oil barons to back it’s worth. It is oblivious to the deception of mortgage companies, credit card telemarketers, and gas titans. It exists, because it is the very essence of the world we live in. It is the rose that continues to bloom in drought. It is the blazing sunset that paints the sky over a closed factory. It is the dance of mist and sparkle of frost over homes in foreclosure. It is the diamond sky and pearl moon above a war torn city. Art exists, because our world exists. Our universe exists. We exist. And to those of us whose lifeblood runs in rainbows through our veins, and our every breath is a technicolor sigh…. it is our turn to be the infusion of hope in these anemic times. We don’t have to wait for a government to set up a program. We don’t have to wait to see our neighbor in tears. We know what to do. It is in our very nature to be empathetic to the shift in the global consciousness. And now is the time to grab our paint brush, our pen, our trumpets…and blast away the tornado twisting at our back door with a rush of color, light, and song.

The tornado is not here to take us to Oz. We are here to bring Oz to the tornado, banishing it away with the click of our ruby red shoes, singing and dancing all the way home.

As a child I drew pictures of beautiful princess’s in fabulous dresses, Roller boots, mr. spikey, the sock monster and countless fairies and pixies. I’m sure it’s something to do with communicating ideals that stay with you unlike the words you communicate that are gone as soon as you say them.

Showing your work is what we all strive to do but the viewer doesn’t always understand it. People always feel the need to associate it with something real instead of see it for what it is.

Why do we create “art?” No- let’s just ask: why do we create? “Art” is a label, a social construct, an idea, concept, and designated as such by other-than-those-who-create. IMNSHO: we create because we are living creat-ures! We come to these lives with a goal that not many of us are sure of – and thus, we creat-ures create to reach out, to communicate, to connect with something, as we exist unaware that we are so much more than physical matter. The other “elements” that we are reach beyond us to other creat-ures through tangible creations and beg themselves to be paid attention to.

Which leads to the second question: why do we look at “art?” The answer is the same. We are curious creat-ures, too, and because we feel so alone in our bodies (yes, we all do…), we look at other creat-ures and what they create – to feel a connection – to find something that effects us that is not within us!!

i know- sounds weird, eccentric…fantastic…..well? is it? ask Yourselves?

i know why i create: i HAVE TO. (read my profile)

i know why YOU look: because YOU too must…..we are all connected in ways that our creations reasonably resemble. “ART” is a temporary anxiolytic. it calms us to do, to make, to look, to admire and imagine…..

What do YOU think when you look at “art?” THAT is a more pertinent question, i think….

it is all about the inner journey we all fantisize when stimulated from outside of ourselves…..

    PEACE

    Shiva :)

I spent the first 40 years of my life arrogantly and ignorantly believing art was for people who couldn’t handle maths and technical stuff. How wrong was I?! It was Photoshop version 4 that opened my mind to possibilities with photos I’d taken decades earlier. Now I like to spend all of my time creating what pleases me. One way to look at art is as social therapy. We can see the artist as a therapist who articulates something the society is experiencing and perhaps not saying, as one who expresses emotion in reaction to a social event, an emotion that finds a home in others. Art has the ability to represent, to symbolize, to move and to make something communicable that otherwise not be. Art is able to express outrage and compassion, to amuse, to point out truth and to heal.

Through art in its many forms we are able to see and experience life through anothers eyes. To see beauty as someone else sees it. To open our minds to a different point of view or to validate our own.. To share in the creative process. To view the artist’s reality, their joy, their pain, their life story. To enjoy the beauty of Nature and the beauty of the human soul. For those brave enough to put into a photograph or writing or even a T-shirt a piece of themselves to share with others. As we view art, we have the opportunity to feel a little of what the artist felt when creating their work. Art can make us laugh, cry, or stand in awe of such beauty. My favorite part of photography is that in one click of the camera you have captured a moment that will never come again You’ve captured a memory for a child, or teen, or an adult that allows them to look back and remember through the photograph the experience that has been captured there. Art, especially here on Red Bubble gives me the opportunity to be able to see and experience a place of beauty that otherwise I would never see. Art is one of the highest form of creating for the purpose of sharing part of your life story, your inner soul with others. Sort of a gift of self. Those viewing the art if they are sensitie to the gift that has been placed in that particular piece of art go away feeling uplifted and priviledged to have been able to be a part of creation in its many forms
