RedBubble Sponsored Event: Unsensored 07 (26 Oct - 10 Nov)
Hello all!
So RedBubble is about sharing creativity. Getting your art ‘out there’. And we’re not limited to the RedBubble website.
We want to actively support initiatives that bring your art into the physical world. To this end we have this awesome logistic engine that we can use to support you. For example, if you want to put on a gallery exhibition RedBubble can look at sponsoring your exhibition through the manufacture and delivery of the art for the exhibition.
And we’ve already started doing this. The first RedBubble sponsored exhibition is by a group of Melbourne photographers called the Silverminers. Their exhibition is called ‘Unsensored 07’ and here’s a bit of information from the Silverminers:
“Unsensored07 is an exciting upcoming independent exhibition organised and run by a small group of photographic artists who practice and value work with film in this day of digital conveniences.
The exhibition will feature 12 artists, all with a very distinct style and will take place between 26th October and 10th November at Kerala Gallery in Melbourne, Australia.
What makes this show quite distinct is the fact that all works are on film
- considered a dying (if not dead) art form that carries a lot more spirit and tradition and has certain genuinity to it.
More importantly, is what this means on a social / environmental / cultural parallel that is really important.
Shooting film in an age where digital photography is readily available and is a lot faster, simpler, and more convenient represents the vinyl in the mp3 world, the live gig in the lap-top album culture, the bike ride to work amongst other things and strongly comments on the ‘more of everything / less substance in anything’ contemporary reality, uniformity and loss of personal touch, consumer based everything and loss of true genuinity.”
You can find more information at the Silverminers profile or on their website.

P.S. – 3324 different works of art were sold on RedBubble in September!
P.P.S. – Sponsoring exhibitions isn’t the only thing we’re looking at to help you get your art ‘out there’. There’s a store in Singapore that wants to stock RedBubble t-shirts, there a few folks around the world who want to re-sell RedBubble cards and there’s many more things we’re looking at. And we’ve got an open mind about new ideas!
P.P.P.S. – If you’ve got an idea for getting your art out there and you’d like RedBubble’s support, send Peter a BubbleMail.

What a fantastic job you guys and gals are doing, bravo!!!
Crokus Label
Hmmm… how “far” are you willing to go to sponsor an event… (physically speaking… )
I would like to learn more about this.
Thanks RedBubble for the way you care about art.
Much Freedom, Peace, Love, Light, Respect and Honor.

It’s so good to know how much RedBubble is doing. Any plans of organising events in the UK?
peter
We need to look at each idea and work something out – so it’s hard to give a blanket answer.
Damien Mason
That’s awesome guys. I must confess having or even just being part of an exhibition is a bit of a private dream of mine, so i’ll file this away and if i ever feel like my work is up to scratch i’ll contact you guys. I’d love to see a bit of a vector love exhibition to be honest :)
peter
Fraizan – are you volunteering to help organize something in the UK? We’re happy to support – but it’s hard for us to take the lead at the moment given how many things we’ve got on the go.
Faizan Qureshi
Well, yes. I would love to get together with a couple of other members from the UK and organise something where we can represent RB. No-one knows about RB in the UK. (Well apart from a select few who are already members!)
MissKristy
It all sounds fantastic. I think you are doing amazing things for the artistic community.
I was actually at an exhibit the other day and a thought went through my head ..”I wonder if there has ever been any Redbubble exhibits?” As in, not only sponsored by RB, but an actual exhibit with a collection of many different RB artists.
rikkipaul
great work RB.

I’ve been BubbleMailed about the paragraph:
Shooting film in an age where digital photography is readily available and is a lot faster, simpler, and more convenient represents the vinyl in the mp3 world, the live gig in the lap-top album culture, the bike ride to work amongst other things and strongly comments on the ‘more of everything / less substance in anything’ contemporary reality, uniformity and loss of personal touch, consumer based everything and loss of true genuinity.”
My thinking is that film and digital are just mediums. Good images can be taken with either medium. James and Ed are film nuts; Paul and John are digital nuts – so we have all bases covered in RB. But I don’t look to impose my views on the merits of each medium and I appreciate and respect what the Silverminers are striving for – personal excellence.
More generally we have a respect for all mediums – the film versus digital debate is not an important one to me. What’s more important is the output; the learning; the development; the expression; the art.
gordontant
Well said.. I am a film nut too, (will be going to digital soon mainly because of costs) I will always use it, there is something about having to work things out and not let a computer chip do it for you

apologies Faizan for spelling name wrong

This is great to hear. Having been in a syndicate-exhibition earlier this year, I’d very much like to have one of just my work, using select pieces.
I’ll be inquiring further about this, but welcome any further details on the future of this idea.
Melinda Kerr
Cheers to that Peter. I’m looking at doing a charity exhibition for my Rwandan and Congolese charities (seeing as the Australian Government doesn’t want Africans anymore :(
budrfli
Awesome! like many others here it is amazing to think that there are venue possibilities open in the future! that is waht we are all struggling to acheive.
impressed with this site!
Lynne Mettam
I can only add my support for the idea of sponsoring the Silverminers and future exhibitions. The Red Bubblers admin have sure gathered some great talent around them on this site and mostly all seem to be extremely pleased with it and glad to be a part of it. This is just another example of why we like it so much.. innovation!!

hay what a rippa thats tops

Very exciting!

Excellent news – hope we can organise something in Wales (We may as well do art we don’t seem to organise rugby very well!)
I’ll get together with the two or three Welsh friends I’ve made on the site and get in touch with any ideas we come up with.
Cheers and thanks for caring

You guys are sensational!!

You guys are bringing balance to the force!!
Yikes, I sound like Yoda! LOL!!

Anything coming up for Sydney? Seems to me that most of the RB people in Aus are mostly from Melbourne.
earthjammedia
nice one RB
Peter – glad you mentioned the fact about the paragraph and the mentioning of genuiness of film that has more spirit compared to “convenient” digital. I have no prob with people who choose a specicific medium, but to say that those of us who use digital are not equal, does not suprise me, but was does is that RB would support an exhibition that is working to promote this narrow view. Perhaps in today’s climate concious world, I could say that the chemicals used in processing film may just be one good reason to convert to digital…plus photography is the process, and is it not all about the image..and is that not what RB sells : )
PhotogeniquE IPA
this is great and a really good idea. Having a bit of corporate clout and resource which individual Bubblers don’t have, can be so valuable in the whole marketing process. We are looking at getting UK-NW (and maybe wider) Bubblers together and something like this would be great. Watching developments with a keen eye!
Vonnie Murfin
That’s great! Some of my family and I have been talking about selling some of my artwork at an art and craft show. I was hoping to use your logo. I am definitely going use your name with my artwork. I am using my artwork that I ordered from Redbubble as an example of what the customers will be getting. Will you be making business cards? I could really use those.
Paul Tupman
This is so great. Full respect to you guys, striving so hard to get so many peoples artworks noticed. I’m sure that all bubblers owe you some grattitude in some way or another. Thanks guys.. keep up the fantastic work!
Russell Fry
You guys keep raising the bar way beyond all other web sites, bravo redbubble!
SnowDog
Great ideas and thanks to RB for leading the way
Faizan Qureshi
LOL. It’s okay. I’m kinda used to Fraizan, Faizon, Fazian, etc on RB now. :P
I can’t wait to see how this (and others like this) event turns out!
Carmen Mandel-...
This is truly exciting, thank you RB.
StacyLee
This is great news!
Jeremy Evans
You are all amazing. Truly great people.
Deborah Bowness
Another UK member here!! It would be soooo cool if something did come together! Great idea! I for one would want to be a part of it for sure, that’s if you would have me that is! ;)
Ron Fitzgerald
Great idea. However a few questions.
I am puting together a proposal to hold a solo exhibition at a local venue in the new year.
Primarily it will run for a month, no cost for the venue, except that they will take 40% commission, I am OK with that and expect to build a portfolio that will have a selling price of over $500.00each. I also will be building the frames that will reflect the higher value of each piece.
I am OK with wearing the cost of the materials. However there is an opportunity to organise a official opening as well.
Questions
In principle I thought of selling limited editions at the gallery but in the brochure and other materials strongly advising that Red Bubble would be a fulfilment channel for those that wanted to look at a range of lower price alternatives.
Would it be possible for Red Bubble to contact me directly to discuss how we could work together to maximise this opportunity for all of us.
Thanks
Ron
Rhys Allen
Hi all
As one fo the organisers of the Melbourne Silver Mine’s exhibition – “unsensored07” I’d also like to personally offer a huge thanks to Redbubble, and specifically, Peter, for all the support and encouragement in our show. Having RedBubble on board has not only allowed to us to save funds on our printing costs, but has also given us the opportunity to create a consistently presented show from twelve different people.
There have been a few comments on the film vs digital thing, and I just wanted to point out that in no way did we intend to stir up any debate. Most of us in the silver mine use digital almost as much as film, there is certainly no suggestion that one medium is superior to the other.
But they are very different mediums, and our aim is not to say one is better than the other, because that’s a totally pointless debate, but rather to draw attention to those qualities unique to film, which are perhaps in danger of being forgotten. And I’m not only referring to the visual qualities, there is also the process: with digital we see the shot straight away, we press delete if it is not what we want, we shoot again, repeat until good. With film, each click of the shutter has a dollar value attached (shooting decent slide film on 120 format costs about AU$2 per frame), and an investment of time before we can see the end result. This results in the photographer thinking differently about the shot he/she is taking.
We hope those of you melbourne side can make it to the show, and thanks again RB!
Rhys Allen
edit: actually there are a few filmy shots on my red bubble page. whew
earthjammedia
Hi Rhys,
thanks for clearing that up, I would say that maybe the wording needs adjusting ” – considered a dying (if not dead) art form that carries a lot more spirit and tradition and has certain genuinity to it. ,” can possibly lead to mis interpretation.
good luck to you and the rest of the silverminers with the exhibition : )
gordontant
Deborah, we would have you any day….. lol
for your art….........
Incognita
genuinity ... nice to see that those who espouse old media are not above coming up with new words…
Good luck chaps and chapettes—I’ll look forward to seeing the show.
Deborah Bowness
Lol@Gordon!! That is nice to know!

How brilliant!!!!!
lanced200
Film VS Digital – how intresting, so am I alone in the concept of shooting on film – then scanning it to produce digital output that you can then manipulate if you want.
And what do you call this DIGIFIL???
I use whatever is available in any way I can conceive.

I have been a sleep for a very long time!
I missed it – and can’t think how I didn’t know!!! Would have loved to go and have a look.
Would also love to know who the Silverminers are????
