Interesting Stuff
Well the 100,000 masterpieces celebration ended a couple of days ago – and it was quite popular! Here’s a graph of the daily sales on RedBubble since we launched in Feb 07:

The first big spike was Christmas last year … and the recent spike was last week. Congratulations to the 2239 folks who received a sales notification last week.
Another stat I was surprised to learn recently is that 74% of members who have made a purchase on RedBubble aren’t active uploaders … it seems there is a large number of ‘fans’ active on RedBubble who just browse, comment and buy. In fact I think that only about a fifth of the members on RedBubble are trying to sell their work … so last week over 10% of the people who are trying to sell on RedBubble made one or more sales.
I also found it interesting to learn that most people (64%) who make a purchase on RedBubble make their purchase on the first or second visit to the site. There’s a couple of reasons for this. RedBubble itself generates between 30% and 40% of all sales on the site through our search engine work – i.e. a potential buyer types something into Google, they find something that matches their search interest on RedBubble and buy it straight away. The second part of the explanation is that Bubblers direct their potential customers to the site … and these people come to the site in ‘buy mode’ and transact pretty much straight away.

And while I’m talking about the power of the search engines, they can generate opportunities in few different ways. Judith Oppenheimer has recently licenced one of her images to an agency after they found it on RedBubble. Congratulations Judith! You can read about that here.
Well that’s about it for today … oh but before I forget, you remember the incredibly cool t-shirt comp we launched last week? Well due to popular demand we’ve extended the date for entries by a few days. So you’ve no excuse to not get involved and hopefully end up with your design hanging in streetwear store Demo, in London.
Ciao,
- Peter

It’s great to see that first graph!

Look at us grow!!
Glad to be a tiny part of this!

Wow! That IS quite the spike! We need to find more reasons to host some free shipping promotions ;) Though at this rate, if they happen every hundred thousand, we’ll be there again in no time! I can honestly say that it was the most sales I ever recieved in one week… 7 or so? I also think that the double the mark-up coupled with free shipping really sealed the deal for family and friends that didn’t want to buy four or more of whatever it was they wanted to purchase.
Kudos to RB again for an outstanding job and taking the world by storm!

I loved the promotion, gave a reason (“free postage, and double artist royalties”) to promote my redbubble work to friends, which i otherwise may not have felt comfortable doing. so thanks for doing it…and got me my first sales too. Yes from a friend, but still exciting for me.
Steven Lippis
I too was recently contacted by a company to licence a couple images too, they also found it through googling. Went into their office for a meeting and to see what they wanted to do. They ended up wanting one image for their annual report cover, and a 12 month licence on another to use in their publications.

Brillo RB!
I just have one little teeny gripe, when I order something to buy, it takes no time at all to be delivered considering the product. But, my Mum finally made the decision to go out on a limb and purchase a couple of calendars that I made up for her. She was a little put off, however when they did not arrive for nearly a month. She did love the quality though, so hopefully I will talk her into browsing the site again.
RedBubble replied
Wow … that’s too long. We’re working to reduce the turn around time on all of our products … mainly by getting them made as close to the customer as possible.

Have to say it made no difference to me, I haven’t sold anything in 2 months. I’ve been on RB a year and sold 4 cards and 2 laminated prints…..... I must be doing or not doing something wrong. Nice to see that others are selling though, good luck to everyone :). are you going to be having free shipping again before christmas?
Miraart
Congratulations to everyone who has sold their art!!! It always full the heart so much! I wish everyone good health and a lot of inspiration!
Amanda McLennan
I made my first sale this week after selling 2 cards – just wanted to share and say thanks RB for offering us a place to show and sell our work.
Jordan Clarke
Congrats to Judith! I also had a similar thing happen to me – I’ve licensed my ‘Winged’ artwork to be used as the branding image for an exhibition at the Museum of Melbourne. The curator found it here on RB and called me – so thanks RB!
MDossat
Great stats. Looks like the free shipping is a hit. Maybe having more instances of free shipping would boost sales during the time of year when things are quiet. I know I’m more inclined to buy when the shipping is free. :)
CanDuCreations
What I really love about RB is the transparancy, like giving us this information. Of course also the quality of the prints and T-shirts and the wonderful artists on this sit. Thank you RB, I became very much a fan of this site and yes, we sold too!
georgieboy98
Maybe the next reason for free shipping could be when we hit 100,000 members? Or actually 90,000 is a good round figure!! LOL Peter

Ooooh stats – they are great stats ad very interesting. I think a lot of bubblers are possibly writers too who sell less and use RB as a forum for critique and as a place to reference editors to- in the mean time hopefully that in itself generates a few sales by people clicking on items we have favourited for example. Go RB!
Jadephotos
Congrats to everyone who sold something :-)
I’m still waiting for my first sale notification – then I’ll be doing my own Happy Dance.
Emily Peak
Thanks RB! I had an awesome sales week! I sold 5 tees,a canvas,a calendar and amounted print!

It’s nice seeing the stats : ) I’m sure sales will continue to rise, the longer RedBubble is around, and of course because of Christmas coming up. I like the community feel here. Congratulations to those who made sales!

Wow!!! Thanks for sharing stats.

And some call it just a fad…haha!! I belong in that big spike of last Christmas. Another big fact (and I know it must be one but not measurable), RB has been and is a vehicle that has given birth to thousands of pieces of creativity. I know for me, I wrote here and there, after joining RB, I have never been more focused and zoned in on a now passion. I have taken up photography, now another passion. The left side of my brain has flourished because of the community of RB…..... this to me is THE outstanding aspect of RB – one I am truly grateful for and one you should be most proud of. And yes, I have bought and sold and… made many close and life long friends. A fad… Nah!! A love affair… YES!!
Lenka
All good news :)

I can’t say enough good about RB – I’ve only had my work up for a month and made two sales recently – so I’m very pleased with the results so far!
A great concept for artist as well as buyers, and obviously a model making an established foothold in online art sales reflected in the data provided here.
Alvaro Sánchez
congrats to the RB community!
cheers to everybody!

Thanx for the stats : ]
Interesting in deed !
Yes! And cheerZ !

Interesting stats. Thanks for posting this :)

Thanks for posting this information and graph. After being on here for about 6 months, and I love this site, I’ve had 1400+ views – some of my designs have over 100 views – but there have not been any sales except for the ones I’ve bought myself.
What am I doing wrong?
Tordo
The second graph proves the importance of tags, the more the better, obviously as long as they have a real connection to your pieces.
Paul Pichugin
Well I sold a couple of prints, 2 framed prints and a calendar.. pretty happy with that!

it’s nice to see how the site and it’s members are doing. those stats are fantastic. Personally, I haven’t made any sales yet, but I’m still hopeful. and still striving to improve! Maybe next time. :)
This promotion was a wonderful idea, and I hope to see it again soon.
Coralie Plozza
I know the free shipping for family and friends helped me out a lot because my rellies love to buy my calender for xmas but last year had to first send to me then send to them and charge the postage…also the comment about search engines I like to tell you all that I was searching for ways to feed attract more of my beautiful blue wrens to my garden and entered into the search engine blue wren feeding and I got a link to images of blue wrens on redbubble which I was proud to see that on the very first page of that list was three of my blue wren pics… My calender sales have double from last year also because was able to get them out earlier so that should reflect in the stats. (not my sales ..lol… all sales)
Stan Wojtaszek
Great graph!! Nice to see it gradually on the rise over time. Also interesting to see that most of the purchases are made by non-posters. Very encouraging.
Here’s a challenge for all the RB’s out there. Promote, promote, promote. Let’s get that graph up even higher.
Luann Ryan
I love graphs like this! I am very impressed. I am excited that my work is part of that graph.
ARTISTS AND BUBBLERS UNITE!!!!! We may outsell Ebay someday !!!!!!

Congrats on a great October, it was the best month I’ve had on RB (in terms of sales, that is).
Anne Staub
Very interesting and a very good week! :)
Regarding sales, at what stage does the sales notification email to the seller is sent? automatically at the time of receiving the order/payment or at a later stage?
Thanks
Anne :)

Thanks so much for sharing! : D

I loved the idea of the promotion, but even though I thought through that Australia is ahead of us (in hours), figured that Thursday evening would still get me the extra income and free shipping. However, I was too late. Perhaps in the future for any such specials, it would be nice to say something about ‘local time’ or something. Even with thinking it through I missed it (probably by a matter of mere minutes or hours), but imagine how those in the U.S. or elsewhere who didn’t think it through feel!

CORRECTION: Appreciate the mention in the column above; the correct spelling of my name is Judith Oppenheimer (not Oppenheirmer), just in case anyone wants to do a search on my images. :-)

Really nice to be a part of the red bubble phenomenon. Its getting bigger and better.

This is not a “sour grapes” comment, but it does concern me.
I wrote a comment 6 days ago about having no sales while some of my individual pictures have been viewed more than 200 times. Today, I found my pictures on another site, Pixdaus. All that Pixdaus asks is for a site-member to provide the URL of a picture they like and it goes up on the Pixdaus site. I downloaded a couple of photographs and they are a good size and of print quality.
There are 6,788 pages of pictures, and they even provide the code to add any picture on their site to your own website or blog. There are other sites that provide information on Redbubblers and which groups they belong to, their journal entries, etc.
I told Pixdaus to remove all my work from their site which they did. Is this common? What percent of Redbubblers have found their work – free for the taking – on another website?
CazzP
Great growth. Let us go forth..:-)
