A friend jockingly said of me; “Beauty is skin deep, but with you Don, ugly goes all the way to the bone!” I know he was joking, but some words do stick in the memory. Beauty is all around us, all the time, we just need to be still a few moments and consider it. Then it comes to us in waves of pleasure; birds singing, wind blowing, clouds sailing, trees swaying, rain falling, water running, planes soaring, children laughing. Ahhhh beauty! Don.

I read that topic of conversation and agree, it certainly made me think harder on the subject of beauty

We live in an instant gratification world which is at odds with beauty.Often its the result of beauty that people seek not the experience of it..Which in itself degrades .. beauty.Words like beauty…love…soul …are all used indiscriminately yet we all find them some what hard to define.The thing is do we have to define something each of us already knows ? Those 3 words emote much in us yet they are often abused and therefore subtracting from their purest intent.But when you read words you can recognize someone who is connected with those 3 words…and someone who is not,Beauty walks hand in hand with honesty and honesty is the true reflection of yourself…... and no..i am not drinking !!..lol

Beauty, like perfection, are manmade concepts that don’t really exist. They are simply idiosynchratic perceptions and views. We have as much chance on either agreeing or defining what beauty is, as we do the meaning of life.

I agree with Robyn. Beauty is in everything, and its up to us to capture and share it. Artists, musicians, photographers, sculptures etc. The freelance workers capture beauty to help the 9-5 workers find peace in thier time off, or entertain them via billboards and mp3 players on thier way to and from work. All of us making the world go round.

i have a notion that we are taught to see from an early age…...beauty and otherwise. one reason it’s so important today to share our thoughts art etc with anyone close by. it takes a small gesture to touch someone giving them the gift of beauty from our hearts that encourages every part of them to open.

I really like your deep meditative reflections, this suggests a man who feels life as well as experiences it and that’s what it all about…...i love your mind it’s beautiful!!

which means a condition in which things appear more beautiful than they really are. “Derived from the Greek terms kallos, meaning “beautiful”, and opsis, meaning “sight”.

beauty, beauty, beauty…the word itself is confusing…it has been used in the wrong context for too long, and the conceptions of beauty have been lost with it’s true meaning. Just take a breathe…close your eyes…feel beauty. It’s all around us.

The older I get the more time and inclination I have to seeking out beauty, and seem to find it in the most unlikely places. Life is so worthwhile…

One man or woman’s beauty is another man or woman’s beast.

Well, to me, beauty is what we bring from the inside of us to the outside world in which we live…so I suppose if some are living with a bad mind influence…then they won’t see the beauty in the world. It is there in abundance if we look in the correct mind-set :)

“beauty” – it’s what all artists respond to and try to express. As all are different, the things that we find as beautiful are different one from another. If we didn’t find things that are beautiful then we wouln’t respond and try to capture our reaction to it (whatever “it” is) – and I include writing, movie making etc. as well as the standard visual arts.

Beauty may be a trick of light on a mundane drab scene/object and suddenly it’s beauty is revealed, to us, and we try to capture that. Or a story heard and because of a current emotional state it strikes you as beautiful – and we respond.

Art is, to me, the attempt to capture beauty.

And, then, you realize that, yes, they are exactly right. Because, to them, once they have narrowed the definition of reflection,

and the definition of beauty

to what they’d feel comfortable with being seen enjoying in public, then, oh yes .. to them a reflection, especially one in a mundane diner

cannot be beautiful.

They have eyes, they have thoughts, they can see beauty.. where they want to, where they have been taught it is acceptable for persons of their race, sex, country, etc. to find beauty. So it is not that nothing can ever be beautiful to them, it is that they are handicapped.

Some people, fortunately, can at least see that beauty once a photographer, painter, or sketch artist comes along and isolates it on paper or canvas, though; and, that is something to be most thankful for.

I must have missed that post … I have another to add that has been my personal watch word for a long time now:

“I never saw an ugly thing in my life: for let the form of an object be what it may, light, shade, and perspective will always make it beautiful.” So said John Constable, and I couldn’t agree more!!

I believe that there is more Beauty in the world than there is Ugliness, But the ugliness is just shown more easily in the media. I try to look for spirit of Beauty in everything I see and everyone I meet. This site makes my search easier because there is always some Beautiful soul on here with words of encouragement for the newbies and Pro’s alike. This is my Heaven on earth with all the Amazing Works and People behind those works. Thank you to the Great staff and wonderful group host for doing a wonderful job to enrich our lives.

2) My longest friend, Mark Selikson, told me, when we were both young “You keep your eyes closed and think the world is filled with beauty. Then you open your eyes a little and see ugliness, so you think the world is filled with ugliness. Then you open your eyes all the way and see that the world is filled with beauty and ugliness and realize you can choose what to focus on and what to increase.” That has inspired me for 30 years. I reckon it could also be said with “beauty” and “ugliness” reversed in the first two parts and maybe instead of “ugliness” one could say something else, e.g. “beauty denied”.

Just paint or photograph what appeals to you and the viewer will make their on interpretation. Simple and straightforward!

Beauty is as faith is …the way you live your life..and belongs to all and is owed a debt by all .. and is seen differently by all. But if you try to find the beauty in All every day and in every way, your life will be beautiful!! And it is the the beauty of the innerself that we radiate that could possibly save our humanity and our planet.
