The Child Without

Always a threat in the words that were spoken
No love ever given, in a touch or a token
No band-aid or kisses, to feel well again,
it was actually kisses causing the pain

No childish games, memories or laughter
No little girl’s things, to remember years after
Not learning the skills to be a good mother,
only knowing the ways, to hurt one another

Now that it’s time, to throw my past in the bin
Try to get in touch with The Child Within
Help her to see what real love is about
but now, I can see she was…
……………….The Child Without !

When you go to therapy or counselling they try to teach you to get in touch with your Inner Child …. what I realised was that I needed to recognise and acknowledge that my Inner Child went without !!

Most of my writing is auto-biographical.
I wrote to rid myself of the ‘rubbish’ in my life, I found it extremely cathartic. I called these early pieces “C’est le Vie!”
For many years I hid them away until a dear friend on RB convinced me to publish them here – for that I will always be so grateful.

A good read Becca! this is sad but that little girl is bubbling with love inside and she is showing the world that children need to be shown and feel love!

Very touching poem, and traumatic for the child growing up in such an environment, it takes a lot of courage, understanding and forgiveness to move past that kind of abuse.

  • Thank you Mary…..when the kind people (such as yourself) here on RB are so encouraging, it makes it easy to write about the “nastiness”…’s so cathartic – Thank you XX

very strong, very emotional. All we can do is learn from the past to not repeat the same mistakes. xxoo

  • Because of things getting reported much more and children being able to talk about things which are troubling them, more easily these days, hopefully any kind of abuse of children will begin to diminish – thanks Thomas !! XX

Oh I so feel this…it hurts…a child is a gift and it is such a sorrow that so many do not treasure this gift…..

  • I agree….a childhood stolen can never, ever be returned, replaced or regained in any way. {HUG} for you Robin X
