I love the sweetness of this. She’s worried about all the things we worry about after 40??? and he loves her even though she’s changing. How wonderful. Is there a line for this guy? lol.

And how true; I gather from my female friends that women are under such constant pressure regarding their appearance. I often come up against notions that women wil be deemed unattractive if they don’t have a chest like two watermelons, or if they don’t do their hair every day, or don’t wear make up. Or even presume that wearing lipstick will turn any man into putty in their hands… Always a bit alarming to get an inkling of as a male.
That being said there has been a growing effort from corporations to try to ensleve men into this low self-esteem body dysmorphia too.
And like you say, the rules of attraction are way more more complex than mere physical appearance.
How many stunningly beautiful bodies carry around the most twisted and ugly personalities…

I have so often told my friends “if you could see yourself through my eyes”...Becca, in your writing this…it shows that you CAN see yourself through his eyes…now if you could only believe what you see. lol. Absolutely wonderful write. I truly love this in its honest and understanding.

I could have written this myself. This is exactly how I feel. I think sometimes he stays with me because of the kids, or that he just has nowhere else to go. He tells me he loves me more than he ever has, my figure doesn’t bother him (though it does me), he says I have done so much for all of us (yet I see myself as lazy and useless). He seems to have got better looking with age and he seems to get more and more toned as the years have gone on. I think that if I don’t lose weight, make myself look pretty and be a “perfect wife” he will leave me for a younger better looking woman. I suppose it doesn’t matter what anyone else says to us (our men included) the problem is that we are trying to live up to our own expectations…not theirs.
I’m going to show this poem to my husband and show him that it’s not only me who is paranoid haha ;)
