The Siren's Song

Wafts on every wave, to ebb and flow
Onto a beach of smooth and silky sand
The haunting tones, as told from long ago
A beauty sits with mother of pearl in hand
brushing her tresses, reflecting sun’s bright gold
The siren comes from deep below, to sit
Afraid is man, from tragic tales of old
The fabled one surely does exist
Ships bound for far-off places never reached
To crash and break on rocks not seen
And brought to lie forever dead and bleached
by sea and sun, unrecognized and mean

And what if she should sing her song
If beauty causes hell, by just her sigh
Do not attempt to listen for too long
The sailor must not look her in the eye
For when her beauty’s seen and voice is heard
The sea will turn the waves to break the sail
And in the sky, a solitary bird
can see… the final…. flick of ‘tale’
