Like some forgotten little wizard,
behind the curtain hiding
Won’t show his face, or speak a word
but Dorothy will do his biding
He keeps speaking of a life
that they both feature in
She’s hung round, and finally found,
that he’s made out of tin
The throne is empty, when revealed
no god is sitting, reigning
A man who dreams of life beyond -
but only moaning and complaining
She collected a heart upon the way
and courage – she now has plenty
Her brain – she finally switches on
and she sees the words were empty
Dorothy needs to stop this game
She feels that she did wrong
but every time she pulled away
he brought her back, with honey tongue
It needs the courage of a lion
to finally walk away
but to be a coward, and just ignore
is a vile game to play
Of stroking egos she’s had enough,
and she’s finally had her fill
For the wizard does not tell the truth
and probably never will !

For the wizard does not tell the truth
and probably never will !...these lines just sort of echoed a few moments after I read them, for some reason. I think they’re the most powerful. This is so well written. Clever you! XX

This one is surely a # 1!!!!!!! To be able to put into poetry a truth about falsehood from a children’s innocent story is a great talent indeed. As I started to make this comment, it made me go back to the story of the Wizard of Oz and realized that the story really is not so innocent after all, it sends out the message without you realizing it, the message you have sent us through the poem.
