Brave Face to Save Face

If they could see her now
…that brave little girl,
who could face it on her own
The nights she cries,
‘Please don’t leave me alone’

She knew what she wanted
She knew what she had
In the light of day,
things are not so bad, but
late at night she is lonely and sad

If they could hear her now,
…to all those who listen.
The excuses she offers…
but deep down, she suffers

She knew what she had
She knew what she wanted
But when it comes to it….
she is not brave
….but hurt and haunted

Most of my writing is auto-biographical.
I wrote to rid myself of the ‘rubbish’ in my life, I found it extremely cathartic. I called these early pieces “C’est le Vie!”
For many years I hid them away until a dear friend on RB convinced me to publish them here – for that I will always be so grateful.

Brave Face to save Face ………. so much crying alone that no one knows only you and they all think oh they are doing so well …… but behind those closed doors …… well no one knows but a Brave Face to save Face. Beautiful and complete. – David :>))

  • Ever thought of a career change – you have so much compassion and empathy for others – you should maybe become a counsellor .. Then again NO!! Cos we would lose the best person on RB!!! {{HUG}} x

I have a dyslexic keyboard and swear at it!! Over the past few years I have done a couple of memoirs and commemorative books and also an autobiography of my life with my wife and then poems etc so my one finger works twice as fast now! The thing is my fingers do the talking but my brain is two days behind! – David :>))

Wow, I can relate to this so much…..you know I have a poem with the exact same words “brave little girl” it’s a really personal poem, and it’s similar to this one you’ve written. Maybe I’ll share it with you some time. Thanks for posting this. :)

  • Thanks Erika – I would really love to read yours sometime, I would feel very honoured XX
